My husband and I went to Cancun on June 27th to celebrate our anniversary and had originally booked our stay for the Great Parnassus. After 5 hours of being there, we quickly learned that we would not be getting any relaxation in there, so we requested a transfer to the adults only Golden Parnassus. It was the best choice we could have ever made! We arrived to find a low key beach bar with young couples all enjoying themselves and since the hotel wasn't very full, everyone seemed to know one another, including the bartender and other staff. The next 6 days were no different. Everyone was extremely friendly and willing to do anything to make your stay nice. There were many food options - Sumo (Japanese), Paradise (buffet and different stations made to order), Old Barn (steakhouse with some seafood), Pier 12 (seafood), and Shangri-La (formal dining - Note: men have to have long pants and closed toe shoes, women will want to wear a sundress or something of that nature) - We enjoyed Sumo (stirfry and shrimp tempura sushi were good) and the fried ice cream, too!), Paradise (breakfast - omlet station, waffle station with french toast, smoothie station / lunch - stir fry, roasted chicken, pizza, quesadillas were all good), Old Barn (fillet mignon was REALLY yummy and the mushroom tostadas for an appetizer), Shangri-La had a wonderful mushroom crusted beef tenderloin that came with yummy mashed potatoes and steamed veggies. Another couple that we went with order the grouper, but said it was rather salty - may want to ask for no salt! We didn't care for Pier 12 - the crab cakes were mostly cake and not much crab and the shrimp soup came with their heads still on (a little creepy with them looking at you!) - The snack bar by the pool (The Breeze) had wonderful grilled chicken and was wonderful to go grab a plate of nachos complete with cheese sauce and pico de gallo (which was INCREDIBLE). We had an ocean front suite, which was nice with a jacuzzi and a great view. We were only on the 2nd floor, but could still see the ocean over the palm trees. The housekeeper was great and didn't miss a thing - she would crank the ac as low as it could go, so bring some long pants and maybe even a sweatshirt if you are cold natured (like me) - it you turn the temperature up too much, the moisture buidup is awful (on the mirror and the sliding glass door and even the tile floor). I would advise you to bring an insulated mug or something to put your drinks in - the bar will fill those and wash them for you and they are much better than the little cups that they have, which sweat really bad and can't keep your drinks cold for long. They sell insulated cups in the gift shop for $5 if you forget, though. If you want to buy t-shirts or anything, get them at the gift shop b/c they are only $5 and we didn't see them for that price anywhere else! Also, take water bottles or buy water bottles in the gift shop and you can refill them all over the resort (they have water machines with filtered water that is chilled) - Don't drink the water out of the sink in your room, though! The bars all use filtered water, so don't worry about your drinks! The ice is fine, too! If you want to go into town, the market connected to Margaritaville is nice, b/c it is inside and has AC - nice for a cool day out of the sun! You can ride the bus for 70 cents per person and just tell the driver where you are going. Also, HIGHLY recommend booking the day trip to Isla de Mujeres - you can book it through Aqua World which is at the hut down by the pool - it is from 9-5 and you can have the party boat experience, enjoy the private beach club, swim with a sand shark, snorkeling (saw lots of beautiful fish), seeing a lot of culture, seeing the sea turtles, massage on the beach, shopping in the flea market, going kayaking, and relaxing in a hammock on the beach all in one day! Lots of fun, but lather on the sunscreen! Although it is all-inclusive, we still tipped those that went above and beyond to serve us - for example, when we were down on the beach laying out, Maria would come and get our drinks for us so we didn't even have to get up! I could go on forever, but those are the main tips and suggestions I can offer! Great experience...the only thing my husband and I decided it was lacking was a swim up bar, but we just took turns hopping out and going to the bar or flagging down a waitress! Enjoy your trip! :)
