Booked a last minute 3 night stay at the Riu Caribe for the end of October. We had stayed at her sister hotel the Riu Cancun a couple of times for longer stays, and thought we would try the Caribe since the reviews were comparable. We are somewhat seasoned travelers to Mexico, this being our 7th trip to Cancun and 14th trip to a Mexican resort.
Positives:
Staff was extremely friendly and attentive. Even at the buffets, someone was always there to make sure you were not wanting for anything. Sometimes the bartending staff was a little slow when they were working solo, but not so slow to ruin my tranquil mood. Most of the time they served the drinks rapidly and with a smile. Tips obviously helped to facilitate the flow.
The grounds were well kept up, and it was easy to get a lounge chair, no doubt due to the time of year and economy. The facility and room were very nice. For a mid priced hotel, I was very happy with the accomodations.
The food was great! We only ate at the buffets, and were extremely pleased with the quality and varity of food. Although we only stayed there 3 days, we were kind of ready to leave because we couldn't go through another day of the eating and drinking marathon.
Negatives:
Not much really. The lobby does get kind of warm, and sometimes the dining room was a little warm, but not always. Guess what, it's Mexico so you might sweat a little. Bring plenty of handkerchiefs to mop your brow and you'll be just fine. Tip the waiters and maybe they will bring you an ice cooled, wet cloth to refresh yourself with while eating (it was great!) Also, the one evening show we attended was kind of lame (Mama Mia lip sink), but they all are, so if you want fine entertainment, go to NYC for a broadway show.
All in all we had a very nice, relaxing visit to the Riu Caribe, and will return when we have more time to spend.
