As there is no logo on the front of the building, you can only recognize Girasol by the charisma emanating from within. The positives: First, although Hurricane-force winds around the beach might threaten a normal human-engineered structure, Girasol is undaunted because it is a hollow shell. If you leave your patio and front doors open simultaneously, you will witness unparalleled meteorological phenomena (but please keep your limbs away from the door unless you purchased ample travel insurance). Second, while other hotels have pretentious swim-up bars and all-inclusive drink deals, Girasol saves you the humiliation of being a Spring Break "sell-out" by being located close to an Oxxo convenience store, where you can purchase 40s of cerveza and keep it real instead. Third... Bored in the middle of the day? You can play a little game I like to call "treasure hunting for an electrical outlet." Fourth, conversing with other Girasol residents about the idiosyncrasies of each room can be a great bonding experiences. Some people have a/c, some people have refrigerators. And you know what? Some people don't. That's life.

I stayed at the Girasol from the 16th-23rd of January.I was a bit apprehensive at first because few people had been there(in comparison to the bigger hotels) or even heard of it.
We were checked in straight away and shown to our room,I desperately wanted the ocean room view that I heard was fantastic from this hotel.When I opened the front door I WAS NOT DISSAPOINTED!It was dark so i couldn't see the view in its full glory,but I sure could hear it!
In the morning i woke up to 3 shades of blue sea,claer blue sky and sunshine.
The room was big with two double beds (that we pushed together and a sofa.It wasnt luxury but the room was nice,the shower was very clean,okay the sink area wasnt to the same standard as the shower but nothing to be complaining about.There was a t.v with about 15 channels but only one was english(but we didnt cross the ocean to sit and watch t.v!)
The cleaner did a fantastic job,the room was cleaned from top to bottom.The only negative i would say was that there was no cooker and the front door made a bit of noise.There was a sink and fridge though.Staff were lovely and extremely helpful,if you stay here book all your day trips with the hotel,they are so much cheaper than other places we checked.
Location was unbeatable,it is about 5mins(and thats if your strolling)to all the clubs and bars(including coco bongo).If your expecting a 4* or 5* hotel don't bother,this hotel isn't for you.
Girasol is well priced in a great location,with the best ocean views and beach.Enjoy.

The Girasol may not be the Ritz (as people have reported), but it certainly has some nice qualities. It has the best beach we have found. The ocean views were amazing from the balcony and room, and the location is really good. It's right next to the night clubs of Carlos and Charlies, Senor Frogs, shopping, dining and lots more stuff. Yes, the hotel lobby and common areas could use some sprucing up (we're told that they plan to), but for the money, and if you're not expecting perfection, it's a good value for the money. We rented from the Warners (Rick and Dori), and you can't beat their prices! We only paid $475 for the week in late November. Marge

We just spent a week in penthouse #9. I would suggest that you rent the condo through [--]. You will get the best maintained condos in the Girasol buildings by using this site. The owners, Mike and Janet Weese, own several units in the building and in my opinion have the best units available to rent. They are very hands-on owners and are quick to respond to your inquiries. The units are well stocked and make you feel like you are at home. You won't find apartment white walls or generic furniture in their units. You will also have internet access and direct tv from the east coast. Mike gave us excellent instructions on how to use the bus systems to get to the Walmart or Sam's club for grocery shopping. We ate our breakfast and lunches in the condo and went out for dinner. The location is the best for the night life and good restaurants. The beach and the water are the best in the world. We spent New Years in Hawaii and Kauai and I have to say that the warmth of the water and the soft beaches of Cancun out shine the Hawaii beaches.
