Just returned from a week with my parents in their time-share there and I was somewhat disappointed with my stay at this property. The waiters and bartenders were rude and surly the entire time - and I was tipping 20% consistently for nothing! They never smiled or spoke with us, just took the orders and gave you the goods. You cannot swim at this beach, too many rocks and always red flag for rip tides. The pools are awesome. No kids activities at this hotel - have to constantly travel to the other Royal properties for any fun kids activities. This location is geared towards the older crowd, for sure. The rooms are okay but nothing special. For the thousands we spent, I think there are alot of other places I could go. The food is totally mediocre except for the one upscale restaurant (The Conquistador), which was fabulous. Skip the place across the street unless you want a huge lobster for huge bucks. The bus service to the other properties is good. The Spa is very over priced unless you have money to burn. We did have a wonderful seaside massage at the Mayan which was the best I ever had, but it would have been $40 more at the spa and not outside by the sea. Needs updating - older property. All the waiters there act like they have a huge chip on their shoulder and don't want to be there - I was shocked. It took me a week to figure out that the hair braiding is done at the Caribbean down in the basement salon - book an appt. as soon as you get there otherwise they can't fit you in. Most ammenities at the Mayan closed now, the exercise room, salon, etc. The Royal lease for that buidling runs out in 5 years and obviously the Royal Resorts are not putting any money or effort into the place. This is a good place if you want to be alone and skip activites. They do have a great water aerobics class in the morning taught by some crazy guy named Asi. He was the only smile in the place and saved the week for me!
