We just returned from a week's stay at this hotel. The facilities and staff were wonderful. After a speedy check-in, a staff member gave us a quick orientation of the facilities, pointing out restaurants, amenities and answering our questions. During our stay, the concierge was happy to make reservations for us at restaurants inside and outside the hotel. There are always representatives from a local tour group on site where you can book any outings or watersports.
Our room was on the third floor, facing the ocean and pool, and the view was spectacular. Every room has a sheltered balcony that is big enough to enjoy breakfast or a good book. But I'm sure if the weather is nice, you'll be out by the pool or beach. The room was very clean and had a minibar, flat screen TV with several cable stations in English and Spanish. The water at the hotel is filtered and chlorinated, so it is potable.
The pool area was very nice. It's not deep (just under 5 ft), but that was perfect for us because we had our preschooler. There's also a kid's pool for very small children (less than 2 ft deep). One end of the pool has a well stocked bar so you can just swim up and order a drink. The jacuzzi is large enough to accommodate several people (it never felt crowded). The pool staff were attentive enough but didn't feel like they were hovering. There is a complimentary towel service and the bathroom area off the pool is well maintained. They offer spa services by the pool or beach, but we didn't try any of these. Personally, I think it would be too distracting to enjoy with people walking by.
The beach is narrow, but beautiful. The staff keep the seating well maintained and they will bring your food or drink to you.
There were several eating options at the hotel. Our main complaint about the hotel food is that it's mostly American fare. We hoped there were more Mexican offerings, but otherwise the food is fine. There is an American style sports bar called Champions that is open from noon until midnight (or later) that served pretty typical food. It was good, but not exciting. We ate there our first night because the weather prevented us from venturing out. There is La Capilla, which serves breakfast and dinner. For breakfast you can choose the breakfast buffet ($20 for adults, $4 for our 4-year-old) or just order a la carte. We never did the buffet, but it looked very good. Everything we ordered was good. For dinner it's steakhouse fare. They describe it as an Argentine steakhouse, but they import the beef from the US. Expect to pay prices comparable to Morten's or Ruth Chris'. They have a very good salad bar. The entrees are very generous portions and can easily be split between two adults (especially if you're getting appetizers or the salad bar). There is a kids menu as well. For lunch we often ate poolside. There are menus at the tables and they will bring the food right to you. The lunch offerings included things like sandwiches, salads, burgers, and the portions are generous as well. There is also a take-out style coffee shop connected to their gift shop where you can get muffins and coffee throughout the day. The only restaurant we didn't try was Mikado, which serves Japanese and Thai cuisine.
Overall we were very happy with the hotel. We wanted a relaxing family beach vacation and that's exactly what we got.
