I stayed here with my husband, sister and her boyfriend.
Room: We shared a room with 2 beds and had an amazing ocean front room. I have stayed in other Marriott's and have always been impressed. CasaMagna did not disappoint. The room was comfortable for the four of us. The beds were comfy. Although I like down pillows, I like to combine it with a pillow that doesn't flatten. But waking up to the sun rising over the Caribbean is well worth it. They do have internet, but it's $20 a day. Our wireless was really slow and the ethernet didn't seem to work.
Grounds: The grounds were clean and beautiful. The pool was big and warm. The swim up bar was nice. The jacuzzi was big but the weather was too hot for me to want to get in it. They can probably use a few more umbrellas out. Shade was hard to find. If you can find a spot that you can push the umbrella up close to the pool so you can hang out in the water and be in shade, you will be good to go. The only problem is as the day goes on, you will lose that shade.
Beach: Small beach but nice. There are rocks in front of the hotel. The flags were red in front of the hotel. At the beginning of the week the undertow was too strong to hang out in the ocean. But Friday Saturday and Sunday the ocean was perfect for just standing around and bobbing up and down over the waves without that strong undertow wanting to take you out. We hung out in the ocean in front to the JW Marriott since CasaMagna had rocks.
Food: The Argentine restaurant was the only restaurant closed. We visited Champions which was just ok. Nothing spectacular. They have a Thai restaurant and a BeniHanas type restaurant on site both which we did not visit. We did order food by the pool and it was decent. My husband ordered the seafood quesadilla and he was surprised that they did not skimp on the seafood. They do have a little market in the lobby where you can buy water, snacks, clothing, medicine, souveniers, COFFEE, and they also make sandwiches and have fruit plates and deserts you can order. If I would have known sooner, I would have ordered sandwiches to take with us on our road trip to the ruins. I had a collapsable cooler that I brought with me which I filled with ice and drinks and it would have kept the sandwiches fresh and cold. They also have breakfast croissant sandwiches if you don't want to eat at their breakfast buffet. They do offer a buffet breakfast and menu breakfast where the Argentine restaurant is. I had the Chiliquilles which were good. The buffet had good variety. There is also a McDonald's,Papa Johns and a convenience store across the street.
Other: Our room did have a minibar but were unable to use the fridge to store our water. I brought a collapsable cooler to keep our drinks cold and that came in handy. Otherwise the fridge is 5 bucks per day. No coffee machine but I think you can rent one.
Ask the concierge for places to eat, sometimes they will give you a coupon for a free appetizer or drinks at places they recommend. Also while looking for a restaurant in Downtown Cancun, La Parrilla, a guy gave us a coupon for complimentary drinks. One coupon = 2 free drinks. I had a Margarita and my husband a Pina Colado. They did not skimp on the alcohol either.
