We stayed at the Marriott for eight days, returned just yesterday. There was certainly nothing that was "wrong" per se with this hotel, but nothing really "wow" about it, either.
We were more than pleasantly surprised to be able to check-in upon arrival, around 11 a.m. We got a first-floor regular room...the location was fantastic. No elevator, close proximity to beach and pool. Our room was always re-made every morning before noon.
As far as value is concerned, my husband and I feel that there was very little of that here! Our first day, we ordered a pita bread appetizer and one margarita...price? TWENTY dollars! Thus, we rented a fridge and took the bus all the way downtown to a supermarket, buying all our drinks and snacks and breakfast items. We did buy coffee every morning at the gift shop for $2.50 per cup (but it was good!).
The pool was certainly nothing to write home about. The beach was spectacular, but there was a lack of palapas after 10 am.
There certainly was a fair share of obnoxious high-school graduation trip students roaming around, monopolizing the pool bars. They were annoying with every word being the F word at the top of their voice.
The Champions restaurant was certainly more than passable. Again, nothing great, but it was standard sports bar fare....and expensive for what it was.
The staff was, for the most part, friendly. However, when we checked in we were pushed aside while the front desk manage saw that it happend without saying anything. I had to politely speak up after being cut in line TWICE.
All in all, the hotel was fine. Nothing luxurious, but it is clean and the beach was great.

“Great for family vacation”

We just return back from a family vacation, we were there from 6/25 to 7/2 2005. This hotel is great for a family vacation. I was there with my wife and 4 children 11,6,4 and 7month baby and I was very worry at first that it would not be the right place for my family, since it was my first time in Cancun but after reading some of the reviews I chose this hotel for the family oriented reviews and I was not dissapointed. We stayed on a suite room 4016 and had a splendid full view of the ocean. Everything is expensive over there as everyone had mention, we ate at la capilla for the breakfast buffet and that was excellent (finally someone offer free refills) dinner was great there as well. We ate at the japanese restaurant Mikaos and that was excellent. Champions was not that great food was to dry I enjoyed Planet Hollywood better. I suggest going to Mercado 28 for some less expensive restaurants with better seafood. Taxis are pretty expensive as well, we had this guy Manuel who we used as our tour guide, he was good, he had a suburban and felt pretty secure and he seemed very honest and took us to really good restaurants. As for the beach it was great a little bit rough at times but not dangerous at all, the swimming pool is not that crowded which was nice and overall this is a great hoter you will not be dissapointed, we will definitely be back again.

“Quality Hotel”

Marriott CasaMagna Cancun Resort

OK here's my first review on tripadvisor. We stayed at the CasaMagna from June 25-Jul 2. I mainly chose our location for the beach. I wanted glass water and white sand beaches. Mission accompished. The water was clear and had an awesome bluegreen color to it. The sand was soft and white. The hotel was very nice and our room was clean and had marble showers and bathroom. A nice balcony overlooking the ocean. This was my first trip to Cancun/Mexico so I didn't know what to expect. I knew it wouldn't be cheap but it was pretty expensive. Beer's were 3.50-5.00 each and a mango daquri(sp?) was almost 10 bucks! But hey I expected it. It was nice that we were attached to the JW Marriott and could use there bars/restaurants and charge it to our room at the CasaMagna. There's a beach restaurant at JW's called Beachwalker that had great burgers and stuff like that for a decent price. Also if you acted like you knew what you were doing you could easily use they're pool too which wasn't necessarily nicer but it was different and more spread out. Our A/C worked great and the room stayed humid free. The vents didn't blow right on you either. In Key West I would wake up with frozen throat from the humidity leaking in and the A/C vents blowing right on my face freezing the air right in my throat. The Kingsize bed was a little hard for me but not bad. The cable went out one night but other than that they offered CNN FOX NEWS and a couple other cable channels in English. Not too much there. But hey you're in cancun why are you watching tv.

As far as the party people are concerned we didn't really experience it until the last two nights. There were a couple high school or college kids next to our room that would get a little loud but not too obnoxious. We survived. It is Cancun after all but I was surprised that any party'ers would pay for the CasaMagna.

The breakfast buffet at the CasaMagna was 20bucks a head and excellent. Probably one of the best deals in the two hotels. Unlimted fresh squeezed juices.

The service at the hotel was very good too. The people were very courteous. Most of them spoke english.

Would I return? Yes.

Wow! What a beautiful piece of property!. It amazed me how many times a day someone vacuumed the mat infront of the revolving door to keep it free from sand. The lobby is beautiful with grand ceilings and marble floor. I don't think there are many rooms that DON'T have an ocean view! We had a gorgeous bathroom and water that is safe to drink from the tap (although it is chlorinated). The linens in the room were very classy. I don't think they ever ran out of towels at the pool.

We took the breakfast buffet every morning as there was a special for free breakfast for those enrolled in Marriot Rewards...it normally runs $20 pp...but is the most elaborate breakfast buffet I've ever seen.

We ate at champions a few times for a "smaller" meal and it was comparable to an upscale U.S. sportsbar (like Champs). Our favorite restaurant was bascially right across the street. It was actually an Italian (more Northern Italian...lots of seafood) place called "La Dolche Vida." Excellent service, great food, moderately priced (about $25-30 for two excluding alcohol), great view of the bay. If you sit on the veranda you may catch a glimpse of the resident gator "Carlos." I don't think we ever waited at any restaurant we went to!

Regarding entertainment: You can catch the bus next door on the strip if you want to take a quick ride to do some shopping or visit a club...although I believe Champions doubles as a dance club as well. Aquaworld is down the street about a few hundred yards...they offer many Aquatic sports...such as waverunners...they also have a booth on the property of the hotel where you can book activities with them. There is also a tour operator through whom you can book tours such as Chitzen Itza...we highly recommed taking the van and going with "Pepe Lopez." There are also many beach vendors (they have no connection with the hotel) and I was able to rent a boogie board for a couple hours.

We walked up and down the strip just to compare properties and I would say that it's right up there with the JW Marriot and the Ritz Carlton...but much less expensive. We tipped our housekeeper a couple dollars every day and she wrote a little "note" each time. This is definetely a service oriented hotel and it far exceeded my expectations.

We just came back from woderful stay of CasaMagna Marriott from June 20 to June 30, 2005. Our room was one of the oceanfront room with two double beds. The room has a big balcony with unobstructed view of beautiful ocean! The room was roomy and well decorated, with very comfortable down pillows and conforters. The room also has a minibar - but they charge almost $3 for a can of soda! We highly recommend to go to Wal-Mart and get drinks, snacks, and icechest. The taxi cost about $11 from Walmart to the Hotel, but it is worth to save money on food and drinks!

The hotel has a few restaurant - Champion is like a sport bar and Mikado specializes Japanese and Thai foods. Both places serve good quality food at reasonable price in Cancun Hotel Zone area, but they charge a lot of money for any drinks like other restaurants in Cancun. No refill for soft drinks!

The hotel staffs were very attentive and helpful. There were always staffs cleaning the property so the public area of the hotel was very clean. The water and ice are purified.

We really had a great time staying at Casamagna and can't wait to go back again!
