We stayed at the Marriott for eight days, returned just yesterday. There was certainly nothing that was "wrong" per se with this hotel, but nothing really "wow" about it, either.
We were more than pleasantly surprised to be able to check-in upon arrival, around 11 a.m. We got a first-floor regular room...the location was fantastic. No elevator, close proximity to beach and pool. Our room was always re-made every morning before noon.
As far as value is concerned, my husband and I feel that there was very little of that here! Our first day, we ordered a pita bread appetizer and one margarita...price? TWENTY dollars! Thus, we rented a fridge and took the bus all the way downtown to a supermarket, buying all our drinks and snacks and breakfast items. We did buy coffee every morning at the gift shop for $2.50 per cup (but it was good!).
The pool was certainly nothing to write home about. The beach was spectacular, but there was a lack of palapas after 10 am.
There certainly was a fair share of obnoxious high-school graduation trip students roaming around, monopolizing the pool bars. They were annoying with every word being the F word at the top of their voice.
The Champions restaurant was certainly more than passable. Again, nothing great, but it was standard sports bar fare....and expensive for what it was.
The staff was, for the most part, friendly. However, when we checked in we were pushed aside while the front desk manage saw that it happend without saying anything. I had to politely speak up after being cut in line TWICE.
All in all, the hotel was fine. Nothing luxurious, but it is clean and the beach was great.
