Me and my husband went to Cancun for our honeymoon and stayed at the Casa Magna Marriott for 7 nights. This hotel is amazing! I was worried about the quality because of other reviews about the construction and beach status because or Hurricane Wilma in 2005. There was a minimum amount of constuction going on and the beach was perfect.
For the amount of money spent to stay there I would have expected a few more accomidations. For one just to use the mini bar fridge it was an extra 5 USD a day. So to keep all of our bottles of water cold we had to fill the sink full of ice. Also they charge you 2 USD for every local call you make. Or for any calls in. Those two things I thought would be given to us because of how much we paid to stay there.
The pool was great but the two hotels on either side, the JW marriott and the other one (cant rememeber the name) the pools at these two hotels were amazing. If you have kids the pools at Casa Magna are pretty boring, but the swim up bar is nice, if you have 10 USD to spend per drink.
The resturants in both the Casa Magna and JW were so good. Once again very expensive but still very nice. No authentic Mexican but still great food, (the nachos at Champions were our favorite).
The staff at Casa Magna were so welcoming and nice. I dont speak a word of Spanish so at least they acted nice. They were very willing to help you as much as they could. We were there when a warning for hurricane Dean was announced for that area. All of the tourists were frantic about getting home and away and the staff at Casa Magna were very calm and very helpful. We were lucky that we already had a planned flight out of Cancun before they started evac. everyone. They were still upbeat and helpful for everyone!
