Upon arrival people were very friendly and helpful, but once at counter some receptionist did not speak english that well so it took over average time to get room situation handled . The price we paid($89 x per person a night,) was way too much for the type of room given, it was basically an average hotel room with no mini fridge, no iron or iron board, two double beds and a little 19 inch tv that had very little color an just about every channel had static. They included breakfast, lunch, and dinner into the price which was okay, but to me it did not make up for the room accomendation, the buffet was pretty much the same everyday. They included an open bar which was nice, but if you are not a drinker and only drink maybe a specific brand of beer or liquor you may be dissapointed they served mostly names i never heard of, but of course they had tequila. They also have gym and spa which both cost to utilize, But overall the staff was some of the nicest people i've met . But at $2,225(overall price we paid for 5 days for 5 people), I did research once i got back found many suites with the price range for rent from $1200 till $1500 with the accomandations like a house kitchen, full size fridge, balcony, even a iron an etc. Only thing is no free meals or drink, but they have stores if u wanna buy your own beverages, your own grocerys or just go to diffirent restaurants to have a variety, which to me i rather had done.So if you prefer to have a basic room and have food provided for you tand maybe going with just two then this will be probably for you,but if you are going with at least 4 or more people I suggest you look elsewhere like at one thats owned and charging you a flat rate like $1500 for the whole week (7 days) with a better accomandations.

Very Disappointed! Caution: Tough economic times means workers feel compelled to steal.

What started out to be a trip of a lifetime with my best girl friends, turned into a disaster. My dignity was taken from one of the girls and I as we had over $225 stolen from us...right out of our safe too! We turned it into security and hotel management, but they did not care to listen and look into the situation. I just want to WARN anyone who goes to Park Royal that you will need to take your money with you everywhere, yes even to the pool because we know for a fact one or two of their workers were in our room when we were out to dinner. We are very responsible girls who worked hard for this trip....don't let Park Royal fool you...they do not stand behind any of their crooked workers. Needless to say, I will not recommend anyone to go there or will not be returning. Reconsider your choice to this resort. After talking to other people at the resort, this was not the first incident either. Scary thought!

I just returned from a week stay at the Park Royal with my husband. Here are our thoughts...

Location: Could not be better. The ride from the airport was 20 min, max. The hotel is directly across the street from La Isla mall, which is amazing. There are some great restaurants and bars (check out Thai bar for a unique experience!). The hotel is also within 10 minutes of downtown. You can pretty much get anywhere in Cancun easily enough from this location.

Beach/Pool: The beach is beautiful. You can also walk a long, long ways to the south along the shore. Unfortuneately, we did not get much swimming in, due to the wind/waves and the red flags prohibiting any swimming (the lifeguards were strict on this!). What really, REALLY sucked is that the pools were FREEZING. I think we saw a total of maybe ten people in the pool all week. So essentially, there was no swimming to be done. That was disappointing.

Rooms: No complaints. Although we did upgrade to a Presendential Suite when we arrived, assuming we'd have a king bed. Nope, still two "full" sized beds, meaning my husband and I slept alone all week! We loved the balcony with jacuzzi. A nice option!

Food: Can't complain about anything cold...fruit, veggies, salad, rolls, etc. It was all excellent. However, if you are looking for a good, hot meal, this is NOT the place for you. Dinners were pretty much disgusting. They did a lot of recycling of food items...the pea salad turned into pea quiche. Ick. We ended up going out to dinner a few times (which is annoying, since it's supposed to be an all-inclusive!) because we just couldn't stomach the dinners.

A final message: The employees will harrass the CRAP out of you to listen to their "tour" spiel. (I can't even say what it's about, since we avoided it all week.) As soon as we arrived at the hotel, we told them we wouldn't be doing any tours so we refused to listen to their little presentation. The ENTIRE week this guy followed us whenever he saw us, asking if we had "received our welcome package" yet. (Code for: listen to our tour.) It got really obnoxious and I ended up snapping at this guy to leave us alone. Maybe we just should have listened. :)

Overall, I think you could probably find better quality for a similar price (especially if you end up having to go out to dinner!). But the location is definitely a "pro" of the Park Royal.

My daughter and I stayed at Park Royal Hotel in Cancun (across from La Isla mall) and had a fabulous time. Every person who worked there was very nice. The place was so clean - each and every time we went to the pool bathroom, the maid was just leaving and it was spotless. The lobby, pool areas, bars, restaurants - always clean. The pool guy actually cleaned every lounge chair every morning. The food in the main dining room was very good. It wasn't gourmet, but I'd say very good and a nice variety. The Italian restaurant was very nice...the food was pretty good and the service was excellent. Great ambiance with low lighting and a violinist. If you want early seating, get there at least 25 minutes before they start taking reservations.
My tastes are for a medium size resort, excellent beach, great central location, good food and excellent service - Park Royal did not disappoint. I also believe you should treat people well if you expect the same. The employees at Park Royal are friendly and work very hard. I will go back for sure. Oh, and absolutely no signs of anything drug war related - we felt totally safe...

Great location across from La Isla Mall. With the exception of the matre'd in the italian restaurant, all of the staff were incredibly friendly and accommodating. We traded in and were in an ambassador's suite, which had a small balcony with a partial ocean view. We were able to pay the extra $40 per night for the presidential suite halfway through our vacation and it was well worth it to have a full ocean view on a HUGE balcony which even had a hot tub. Buffet breakfast is great. We never tried the lunches, but the dinner buffet was just okay. We tried to eat at the Italian restaurant when it was possible to make reservations in time, they just make it difficult to do, as you have to sign up at 2 pm at the restaurant. The hamburger, hot dog, and nacho stand is great and we usually opted for that when we were at the resort for lunch. The beach was incredible. I still consider Cancun the most beautiful and fun beaches anywhere!!! Be sure to take the bus or a cab down to Mercado 28 in town for the best shopping on traditional Mexican wares.
My only advise would be to skip cocabongo. There was only one way in and one way out. There were so many people shoulder to shoulder you had to fight your way through to get to the restroom. Most of the night was spent getting a beer bath. The entertainment which is billed as being like a Vegas show is nowhere close -- I live in Las Vegas and trust me, we have nothing like that! The final straw was the pyrotechnics . . . all I could think of was how many people would die if they ever had a fire . . . so I ordered another drink . . . which made me have to go to the bathroom . , , oh, yeah, can't get there from here . . . never again!
Other than that have a great time. Cancun is beautiful!!!
