We arrived at the Park Royal Cancun about 1:00PM after a day and a half of weather related delays in Texas. Check-in was a breeze and they had a room ready for us even though official check-in time is 4:00PM. This room was slightly smaller than the last time we were here, but we paid a very low price this trip and I was fine with the smaller room. The only issue we really had with the room was that the air wasn’t as cool as I would have liked. Nothing uncomfortable, but it could have been cooler. We always had plenty of hot water for the shower and two free bottles of water every day.

The Beach
Probably the best beach in the area. It has some rocky areas at the top of the beach, but from half way down and throughout the water, it is nothing but sand. Waves varied by the day, but were never too rough for us. Once you get out far enough, you can float over the top before they break. Only a few vendors walking the beach and not pushy at all. If you want to walk the beach, you could go on a nice walk heading to the right, but only a few hundred yards to the left. In fact, the Beach Palace might consider changing their name, as that is where the beach ends! You could go through the water around it though. Lifeguard on duty from 10-6 and yellow flags every day. Only red when the lifeguard was off duty.

The Timeshare People
They were almost non-existent. I don’t know if they take weekends off or if they are not motivated right now, but we were never approached in the hotel. One of the Royal Resort guys asked us to go see the Cancun Caribe, but once we declined he understood and moved on. In fact, timeshare people were not really anywhere during our trip.

Food
I think the food at the snack grill has actually improved since we were here last. The hot dogs and burgers were both good. The breakfast buffet was good with plenty of options. Dinner buffet was average, but there were always some options I liked. I wasn’t really there for fine dining anyway. First night was Chinese cuisine, then Mexican, and Caribbean. The final night, we ate at the Italian restaurant, which was very good. My daughter had the spaghetti Bolognese, while my wife and I both had the steak, which was wonderful. I have no complaints about the food at all. I noticed a few reviews had mentioned all they served was chicken. I’m not sure where they ate, but each night had chicken, pork, beef, fish, seafood, and other options. Usually a couple different dishes for each meat.

Drinks
Free flowing and as strong as you wanted them. For those complaining about weak drinks in previous reviews, all they had to do was ask for more alcohol. Manuel was wonderful as always, and Rene at the lower pool at night is a wonderful addition to the bar staff. These people take great care of you even if you don’t tip them. We always take care of our bar staff, restaurant waiters and maids, but we are always given wonderful service even prior to tipping.

Finally
The Park Royal Cancun is a wonderful smaller resort with an excellent staff. If you are the kind that needs someone to entertain them, this place does not have any big entertainment possibilities, but for us the resort size, the friendly staff, the great drinks, the food, and the best beach in the area make up our favorite resort in Cancun. We will always return.

Let me start by saying DO NOT fly with American Airlines!! Our first day of vacation was ruined duet to supposed mechanical failure of our plane and they couldn'nt find another one to use at one of the world's largest airports. Just found out it was cancelled due to not enough crew members for the flight. Very POOR management if you ask me. Plus they blatantly lied to all of us on the flight. I will NEVER fly with them again.
Park Royal was ok at best. It was the cleanest hotel I've been to in Cancun in 4 years. Regular staff members were very welcoming and friendly but not management types or some people at front desk. We wanted to upgrade to a presidential suite and the girl at the front desk acted like it was a pain. I thought Cancun hotels were all about upgrading. The presidential suite was very nice. We each had our own bathroom which was great. The balcony was also superb. I don't know what they were doing in our building, but it smelled like fingernail polish everyday out in the hall. You probably could have gotten high if you were in the halls long enough from the fumes. The food was ok, if you like chicken twice a day for a week. Breakfast was very poor in selection, unless you love cold pancakes. We went to the "fancy" restaurant one night and didn't like the food so we left and went to the regular buffet to eat. Sitting there eating and a manager comes up to us and wants to know why we were there b/c we had been at "fancy" restaurant first. We did not appreciate this in the least. Doesn't all inclusive mean all the food and drink you want? We were made to feel unwelcome and left shortly after his comments. The so-called entertainment was a joke. This is the first hotel I've been to that did not have nights shows for their guests. Entertainment consisted of karoake at the pool bar about every night, except for the night we got to watch an entertainment staff member change channels on the pool bar TV. The beach here is pretty nice compared to some I've seen. Manuel at the poolbar was great. He hooked us up with different shots he wanted us to try. He went out of his way to make our drinks the way we liked them. He made us feel welcomed as well. I wouldn't recommend this hotel if you don't want to be surround by kids at the poolbar.

Park Royal is a perfect resort if you are looking to relax. The property is well maintained, very clean, and located across the street from an awesome shopping area. The staff is friendly and makes sure the guests are happy. The food is good, although there are is only one main restaurant for all three meals . The one formal restaurant, El Mirado, serves dinner only and is the food and atmosphere are fabulous... it overlooks the ocean. You must make reservations and men need long pants.
For those seeking nightly entertainment and activities, this is not a good choice. I have been there in March and June. March is like every other hotel in Cancun, jammed with spring breakers and the atmoshere is more livley. June is their low season and that is my favorie time because it is not crowded. If you are interested in the nightlife in Cancun, the hotel does offer VIP seating at various clubs on certain nights. They provide transportation there, and you take the bus or taxi home. Of course, you pay for the club cover which includes unlimited drinks. The prices vary according to the place. Coco Bongo's is a blast! It is very convenient to book excursions of every kind from the hotel guest servies. They are very helpful and you can book and pay right there...ust have to remember to take your reservation slip with you! This resort is small enough to make your stay simple and hassel free, but large enough to offer services and amentities that you may want. I have stayed at Park Royal four times, and can't wait to go again!

My friend and I just had our 4th stay in Cancun and first at Park Royal Probably won't do that again. First of all, let me add a side note that our first day of vacation was essentially ruined by American Airlines. We were supposed to be on a direct flight from O'Hare to Cancun that arrived at 12:30, finally got here 9 hours later via Dallas after dealing w/ the airlines and their uncaring staff. Anywho, we get to the hotel and had arranged for an ambassador suite. I don't think the people at Park Royal have much respect for ambassadors b/c this room was horrible. It was on the ground floor of the south tower and it felt like you were in a cave! Too tired to care the first night, we upgraded the next day to the presidential suite. Very nice! Ocean view w/ a jacuzzi on the balcony. Two nice sized rooms filled w/ matching furniture...provided the furniture is still in your room when you get back to it that day! Let me explain...one day we came back to our room and our couch was GONE! I called down to the front desk and they said they took it to clean it??? Well they brought it back and it looked like it was a horrible feat to get it in the room so why not clean it in the room? Also, it still smelled the same as before they took it! Yeah, they didn't clean it. We saw them moving furniture from room to room our whole stay! Anyway, the resort is very clean, they are constantly cleaning. I will give them that. The food for the first few days was awesome, best resort food I have ever had, until about the third day and we noticed that everyday every single meal the meat was chicken breast cooked in some different sauce. EVERY DAY! We were there for a week. The bars were nice. Manuel at the pool bar will hook you up, he was great. The lobby bar is ok, very quiet. The pools were pretty nice. There is an activity pool, a pool for adults only and a very small kiddie pool. The beach is good, pretty wide, there was a shelf that the waves made but that isn't the hotel's fault. The activities were something to be desired, they didn't follow the calendar, I guess b/c the resort wasn't that busy from the H1N1 threat but we were upset about that just the same, we still paid to come, we should still get entertainment just the same! After about the 4th night of karaoke at the pool bar, I was done w/ the entertainment! The people are ok, like I said, Manuel is great. The front desk girl kind of seemed like she didn't want to be bothered at times, like when we asked for an upgrade, she made it seem like it was a nuisance, I thought resorts liked that? And the restaurant manager one night made us feel unwelcome...we went to the "fancy" restaurant one night, didn't care of it so we went back to the buffet to grab some food and he approched us and wanted to know why we came there after going to the other restaurant! Anyway, all in all, it was ok, I felt safe, I didn't get robbed and I didn't get sick from the food (even though I did eat the same thing everyday) Will I stay again? Probably not b/c I don't think it is worth it unless you pay for a presidential suite and the hotel is busier.

I spent a long weekend at Park Royal. I was mainly looking for a relaxing weekend at the beach at a good price, and that's what I got. Park Royal's beach front is not wide, but it is in superior shape compared to many properties. There is plenty of sand, and I think there was a grand total of one small rock in the water. No seaweed at all. Surf can be powerful, but there is room to swim. There are only about a dozen palapas, so finding shade on the beach could be elusive when the place is busy. (Occupancy was only about 45% while I was there due to lingering effect of the flu scare.)

Other than the beach, what stood out most about Park Royal was how clean it was. I don't mean just the rooms but the public areas were spotless. The floors actually gleamed and the staff were constantly cleaning. Even the ashtrays were carefully cleaned and groomed every day.

The clientele seems to be about 60% Spanish speaking, including many Mexican families with children. Park Royal is not in any way a party hotel or a place to meet young singles. However, they do have the nightclub excursions like other properties. There is nothing really to do on the property at night.

The location is within walking distance of a major shopping plaza, La Isla. Adjacent to the hotel and accessible from the beach is a small Mayan ruin about the size of my living room. It's worth 15 minutes of your time to check it out, but try not to spook the iguanas sunning themselves nearby.

As for the food - I only ate the buffet, which was pretty hit or miss. Fish dishes and fresh fruits were good, meat dishes tended to be subpar. The best surprise was "green juice" with breakfast - basically pineapple juice with pureed celery and other veggies added. Looks and sounds awful, but it's actually quite tasty and very good for you. Alcoholic beverages were nice and strong when they came with my meal but not so much when ordered from one of the outdoor bars. (The lobby bar is isolated on the lowest floor with the front desk and isn't a good place for socializing unless you want to watch TV.)

The rooms are simple but well kept. Everything in the room - A/C, plumbing, TV - worked well, except for one table lamp. There is an extra charge of $2.50 per day if you want to use the in-room safe, which is annoying, but the safe worked properly.

With all the drinks paid for in the all-inclusive price, I felt Park Royal was a very good value for my money. Don't come here if you want a spring break/party atmosphere. But it's easy to see why they get a lot of repeat business.
