Just returned from a great vacation at Park Royal Piramides. Two families of four and it was great. The food at the buffet was good. Wish they had a little more variety, but we realize that is difficult to do serving so many people. We wish they would have someone serve you at the pool instead of having to get up and get your own drink. The people that work there are fun if you want to have fun. Another words, they are very reserved if you are, but if you want to have a good time they are game for it. It was very clean. We never had a problem with anything not being clean. You will see people scrubbing the pool chairs at night if you take a late night walk. We always had clean linens and towels. Overall a great place to stay. Watch out for the people telling you about "tour discounts" it is a timeshare sale. Have fun, we did.

We stayed at the Park Royal on March 31, 2005 after our flight was cancelled. (United put us up there) Our room was an ambassador suite and smelled musty and old. The room was clean but beds were worn and old. There was a ton of Spring breakers so the hotel was noisy. It is an all-inclusive resort, and that leads to why we would never willingly stay there: the food was horrible!! The buffet food was inedible. We went to the restaurant to try to find something edible to eat and the only good thing there is the desserts. We kept saying that we were thankful we hadn't paid any money to stay there. If you have plans to go here, change them quickly!!

April 2, 2005
I just got back from Cancun on April 1st. We stayed at the Park Royal and booked it for the all INCLUSIVE stay.
The rooms were okay. Beds are hard..but the rooms and the hotel area is VERY CLEAN. The employees go out of their way to make sure everything is clean and neat. The hotel lobby is very nice--but I was disappointed there wasn't a bar with music. *There was a bar.
The bellhop, Gabriel, was excellent. He went out of his way for us! He was very personable and so easy to like. *He really HELPED us when we had to go to a Western Union place--He MADE everything easier for us.
Gabriel the funjet gentleman, was very nice, as well. It you are coming with funjet, or Apple, I would stay stick with them when booking excursions or fun activities.
The pools are nice. Very difficult to get a lounge chair by the main pool.
But the pool on the upper level was very nice and not as crowded. So, we lounged there.
The bartenders are very friendly and will make the drinks as you like them. They are weak, so ask for an extra splash of something.
The buffet all inclusive, was just okay. Personally, I didn't care for it at all, but several of the people thought it was okay. Breakfast was the best.
The Italian Restaurant behind the buffet was awesome. You have make reservations to eat there---so be sure to find out what time they start taking reservations. If you can't get in one night be sure to book a reservation for the following night or nights. The food is awesome. The staff goes out of their way for you. Rebecca, the host, will try to accomodate in terms of a reservation. Dainel was our waiter for two of the evenings. He was the BEST! He was professional, but friendly, kind, and just so accomodating. Raul, was also our waiter for two of the nights. He was very friendly, and he, too, went out of his way for us. Both of them were excellent!. *Eduardo wasn't our waiter, he appeared to help Raul--therefore, he was just as wonderful. So, I would suggest that you make reservations at the Italian restaurant if you want to be guaranteed to have a good meal.
The beach was clean and always kept neat. The staff was always cleaning around the beach, the pools, the windows, always keeping the place looking great.
All in all the experience was excellent. I think the biggest thing that I didn't care for was the buffet...other than that...everything was good.
*We were there during Spring/Easter Break and the hotel was not crazy like I anticipated. I thought it would be crazy---but, it was not. There were a lot of families there---yes, there were some spring break kids---but all very controlled---and the the employees are always on the watch.
The place was 100 times better than I imagined it to be.
I would recommend this place---I had a great time---and again THE STAFF was EXCELLENT.

Me and my family had a great time at the park royal hotel its the best hotel Ive ever stayed in. we stayed there from the 16th to the 30th of march 2005 !!! The staff were constantly cleaning and the waiters, porters and bar staff were so freindly. We got moved up to presidential suite when we got there, because our room got over booked but that was fantastic,it had a jacuzzi, 3 double beds,a kitchen and a walk in wardrobe, oh and there wasnt a musty smell as other people have mentioned. The room service was excellent they came every day and even if you had the do not disturb sign on the door they still came to your door and handed you towels! The food in the hotel was very nice but we got a bit bored with it near the end of the holiday, there is alot of variety and nice desserts and the burgers at the burger bar are gorgeous. We didnt have any hassle off timeshare people at all, we didnt meet anyone with that trouble either! The hotel is situated in a brilliant place over the road from the best shopping centre in cancun and the bus stop is up the road. To get downtown is 5-10 minutes and i suggest you go to wal-mart further downtown to get cheap wine, beer and groceries. if you are up for snorkelling definately visit xel-ha, its lovely there and you can get on a tyre and sail down the mangoves or swim with dolphins and see the sharks! I would definately recomend this hotel to anybody the only thing i would say is dont go in march its spring break for all the americans and all the teens come and visit without parents so it gets very loud and busy ! If your going to cancun stay in the park royal hotel !!!

We just returned from a week (Mar. 13-20th) at the Park Royal Piramides and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We were tentative of our timing as it was in the midst of springbreak but things were excellent. The resort had a good mixture of middle-age couples, families, seniors, and of course springbreakers. We found the springbreakers to be very pleasant and did not have a heavy presence until about 8-11pm when they would meet at the lobby bar prior to departing for the party spot of the night. They were friendly and often approached people of all ages (males, females or couples) to chat and to find out where they were from etc. We wondered where this overwhelming crowd of SB's were until we went out one night and found them all downtown near CocoBongo and the rest of the nightclubs. During the day they would party at Fat Tuesdays or sleep in 'til noon.

As for our resort, here's what we found:

Location - Excellent. Right across from the Plaza Isla which has great shopping. You will also want to check out the stores located on the back side of the Sheraton hotel next door as they offer the same prices you'll barter for at the flea market. We never did check out market 28 downtown as we found great deals at the flea market near the Hardrock Cafe.

Resort (in general) - Spic and span clean. Everywhere you look you will see somebody cleaning something......which was great. Having said that, the resort was nice but not extravagant by any means. It would be nice if they had a little bigger pools and more area around the pool to lay around. It'd also be nice to see them put pads on the lounge chairs. On a good note, we never got hassled once to do any timeshare presentation etc (we are mid-30's and always walked together so we were prime for the picking).

Staff - Just like we heard, the frontdesk has no personality but the bartenders and the rest of the staff make up for it. Make sure to say hi to Mario, Omar & Mizuel - they were our favorites. We tipped them a little here and there and they'd always greet you with a big ohla and remember just how you liked your drinks etc.

Rooms - very clean but the beds are hard and you do have to ask for the remote (we didn't get one). They must pump oxygen through the ventilation system as you seemed to be wide awake by 5:30-7:30am no matter what time you went to bed. No clocks in the room so bring your own. Our room had no musty smell at all.

Food - The buffet restaurant was good for all 3 feedings (breakfast, lunch & dinner) but we found it remains about 80-90% the same from day to day and gets a little boring. The omelettes are superb however. The italian restaurant was very good but the salad & desert buffets remain about 80-90% the same from night to night and of course the menu does stay the same with only about 8 choices for the main course. We found the meat to be very tasty but the pasta was very bland.

Policia - We met a few other tripadvisor friends our first night in Cancun and decided to walk home and enjoy the fresh air after a few cocktails. Bad decision.......we were stopped by 1 police officer on foot and another 2 pulled up in a patrol car while speaking to him. They were implying we would have to go downtown etc but eventually let us go after a lengthy chat regarding why etc. I think they realized we were not springbreakers and were not going to give them easy money without good reason.

All in all we thought it was a great resort and would not hesitate to recommend it to others.
