My husband & I decided to stay at the Park Royal Cancun for 10 days as "guests" of my parents who have a Royal Holiday membership. We only had to pay the $80 all inclusive fee per day each. But boy...it was not even worth that.
Good things: the staff were very nice...even though i felt like the only reason they were being nice to you was to get a dollar here and there. the place was spotless. people cleaning all the time. the towels were nice and big. the beach was big and nice. the location was great.
Bad things: you felt like you were on a schedule. eat at this time. get your towel cards in. reserve a chair. the food was HORRIBLE. my husband and i both got sick. not "that" kind of sick...but i threw up after everything i ate. and he had acid reflux the entire time. i'm not sure if they put msg in their food or what it is...but it is so bland - and just not good. and it's all the same - just recycled. and NEVER hot ... much less even warm. the adult pool was a joke. small. and kids were up there all the time and were never told they had to leave. The drinks were pathetic. if you even wanted to get a buzz you would have had to do tequila shots b/c the mixed drinks were as weak as you could imagine. my husband would just get pure vodka with maybe half an inch of seltzer and he couldn't even taste the alcohol. and we even tipped after EVERY drink 1-2 dollars. Our presidential suite (which we paid an extra $80/night for) had 2 twin beds...which we had to push together and it kept rolling apart.
So - after day 5 we decided to leave and go to the AQUA (2 hotels down) which was the best move we ever made. However, when trying to get our money back (which they told us we could do) they then told us we could only apply the money towards points or maintenance fees on my parents park royal account!!! this is AFTER they told us we would get the cash back which was when we booked the hotel at AQUA. Thieves!
This hotel might be ok if you have lots of young kids...are older and have lost your taste buds....or just want something cheap-ish.
