We stayed with our 2 children at this resort. It had the worst food I have ever had. My kids would hardly eat anything. At breakfast they would take cereal boxes back to the room to save for later. The buffet had things I had never heard of and smelled. The bars on the other hand had great people working for them. We are going to Cancun in Dec. and plan to stay at another resort. The beach and the mall across the street were the best part of the trip. To pay for all inclusive and get horrible food was a huge waste of money. I heard they had just changed managers when we got there trying to save the hotel money. I believe they tried to save the money on chefs and food. We meet great friends from Wisconsin and had a great time with them. Also ate out alot, Outback Steakhouse there was great.

I loved this hotel, it reminded me of a movie made in the 1960's. I loved everything about this place. the beach, the pool, the food was excellent. I tried the mexican dishes. the chef is very good. The place is always kept clean. The maid always made little animals out of the towels, just like on the cruise ships. The staff is the best, most friendly, warmest people you ever wanted to meet. I am so glad that i ignored all those negative comments on this hotel. When i come back to cancun i will staty at the park royal piramides.

We arrived on the 13th and i was rather sceptical after reading other reviews. i am completely gobsmacked that people can comlain about this hotel. it is 100% clean all of the time, and the staff are all extremely friendly. the adult pool is a godsend, as it was very quiet and relaxed. the beach is pure white sand and clear blue water, amazing! the only complaint we had was that the food in the evning was not the best, and we did have to eat out on a few occasions, this was only due to the food being quite mexican and neither me nor my boyfriend like overlyspiced food, not hotels fault. don't take towels as we did not use ours once. hairdryers are given on request, no charge, so dont waste space packing one. we were quite disappointed that there was no evening entertainment but we should of checked before booking i suppose. overall i came back with a great tan and am looking to book my 2006 holiday to mexico!

This was my first trip to Cancun - and a week's stay at the Hotel Royal Park Piramides was a gift from my sister. I read through the reviews on TripAdvisor, both good and bad, and found them helpful. I paid heed to tips on mildew odor, helpful staff, coffee filters, food selection, possible theft.

These are my observations.
(1) We had a large one bedroom suite - super, super clean with maid service, new towels and clean sheets every single day
(2) Water in the jacuzzi was luke warm, so we just used it once
(3) There is a definite mildew odor; however if you leave the a/c on all the time, you do not smell it unless you are in the hallways
(4) Staff were polite and considerate. A+. Front desk could be more gracious.
(5) Food was average. Comments on the buffet - Breakfast - you can have your eggs done any way you want, good selection of fresh fruits. Lunch and Dinner - on two occassions food selection was very unappealing.
(6) The Italian Restaurant (Mirado) was ok. Salads and appetizers were excellent; dinner was average.
(7) Snacks outside the buffet were ok. Cookies, fish tacos, ribs were some good items. The hamburger stand was ok. Hot dogs and pizza were awful.
(8) Desserts - flan was the best. Cakes were not so good.
(9) Although the rules state you cannot take food to the room - and this is definitely a handicap - you can take food to the room if it is in storage containers (ask the waiter) or paper plates (available at the Hamburger stand)
(10) There is a small store on the premises - with water, ice-cream, snacks, and the USA Today which costs around $4
(11) The two pools are very clean.
(12) Access to the hotel's private beach is invaluable. Clean sands, beautiful beach, not too croweded
(13) We did pay an extra $2 per day for use of the safe deposit box - worth every dollar for peace of mind
(14) Nobody hassled us for timeshare purchases or any sales
(15) We were able to get a shuttle to the hotel for $6 each but had to take a cab to the airport ($20)
(16) There is a mall across the street with two very small supermarkets.
(17) We used public transportation - a trip to downtown is $0.70 one way, a/c bus is $1.10. The Transit Center is Downtown has frequent service to Playa de la Carmen, Tulum, etc. Buses are clean with air-conditioning and toilets and prices that can't be beat - $12 to Playa de la Carmen round trip!
(18) The airport was chaotic - when we arrived hordes of people clamor for your attention trying to give you "freebies" which, if you decide to take, will entail that you sit through a timeshare presentation. There is however, just one official information center at the airport which gives you free information on Cancun. Make arrangements to be at the airport at least 2.5 hours before your flight takes off. The lines of people waiting to check in to their respective airlines is daunting - especially since there is no official letting you know which line represents which airline and you rely on the people in line to tell you (and they are sometimes wrong!!) Also be aware that all of your luggage is opened before you check in.

After all this - would I return to Park Royal? Probably not - Why? Two reasons only - the food and the mildew odor. If these were corrected I would have no problem at all with this hotel.

If your looking to hit the beach and get a tan then this is a great hotel. The beach is absolutley great. The pools are good, but the so called adult pool always had kids in it, and we had to get the staff to get them out daily. The bar at the adult pool closes way to early (6pm). The pool bar stays open till 11pm but its located at the family pool, don't get that at all.

The food is just ok, good cause its free with the all-inclusive plan. The so-called Italian resturant is anything but Italian food, so don't expect it. But,the ambiance is great and a good change from the cafeteria style buffet. Don't stay here for the food, or you will be disapointed.

The location is great, right across the street from a large mall, and not far from outside bars and resturants. Be warned tho the resturants there are very expensive, even the chain ones. So use the all-inclusive plan for daily meals.

There is little or no entertainment or nightlife for adults. So if your looking to party, then you have to go elsewhere.

Getting aroung cancun is easy from this hotel. There is a bus stop nearby, and taking the bus is easy and they take dollars, but give change in peso's. We took about 50 dollars in ones, to tip our maid and bartenders, and for the busses. Dont pay for anything in large bills unless you want pesos for change.

We took the trip to the Chichen Itza ruins, and I recommend it hightly. By the tickets from the hotel, not from the time share hounds, or you will be hounded the whole trip.

The time share and vacation plan hounds are everywhere. They will promise you free breakfast or discount tickets to attractions if you sit down and listen to their hours long sales pitch. If your not interested the dont even acknowledge them. They are in the hotel, the airport, the sidewalk. So get used to ignoring them.

Overall we would stay there again, the rooms are very clean, and the staff is friendly. You will get better service if you tip the maids and bartenders.

If you want more info on this hotel or Cancun in general email me.
