The grounds are lovely. It is a long walk to your rooms. Yes there are golf carts once in a while. If you need one you have to call for it. The food is good for Mexico. Go to all the restaurants. They know how to cook fish..go to the seafood one by the beach. Very informal but good food.
No real need to dress up here. Pants required for the Japanese restaurant..be sure to go.
Staff is friendly but you get tired from greeting everyone back. Not everyone speaks english though so make sure you know the basics...I found I knew more than I realized.
Loved the FREE fridge in the room...always stocked with soda and beer. Room service all day and night...Free. I know it is all inclusive but the only money I needed was for tips and stuff at the store. You can drink yourself to oblivion in the bars and night club, which I promptly did the first night.
Room was small but nice. If you are allergic to molds watch out...all rooms smelly musky. One of the meeting rooms was so bad my friend had to leave.
Pool: People show up early and throw towels on chairs in shade and sun both. Then they might show up for an hour late in the day. Chairs are always taken in the shade. If you want one, go down early. Wait staff is always around, drinks are plentiful. Look for the iquanas...
The cats look awful but are well fed. I heard some guests ordering room service just to feed the kitties. I am sure they are there to hunt the critters on the grounds.
Buy stuff at the gift shop...more expensive in town.
There was a stable we passed on the grounds...not sure what it is for but I assume it is carriage rides..for brides maybe?
You will enjoy your stay
Moon Palace was wonderful! The food was great. Had so much to choose from. My favorite was the Brazilian restaurant. They had a special. You fixed your own salad, then they brought you a baked potatoe the most wonderful meat on skewers and they carved it off in front of you, they had sausage wrapped in bacon, chicken, beef, fish, lamb and pork tenderloin. It was wonderful. I was alittle disappointed in the Caribbean Sea. It wasn't as blue as just North on the strip in Cancun. It did have seaweed. It was bearable, but the pool was great! I also couldn't believe that I was in Mexico and the hotel did not serve Corona! We did the day trip to Isla Mujeres. Alot of fun! While we were there we swam with the dolphins. What a wonderful and spiritual experience. I compared it to the birth of my children! AWESOME! We also took the jungle boat tour. You got to drive your own 2 person boat through the "jungle" and then snorkle. It was also fun. My room had been remodeled. The jacuzzi definetly has enough room for 2 large people. We enjoyed it everynight. The gift shop had everything I needed to get trinkets for everyone back home. We didn't even feel the need to leave the resort. It has everything anyone could ever want! Can't wait to go back again. The people that worked there were wonderful whether you tipped them extra or not!
Extremely disappointed in the beach. Had been 2 yrs. ago to the sister resort Aventura and wanted to bring the kids this time. I expected the beautiful clear blue carribbean water. NOPE! Gross, lake water. Actually some of the grossest water I have ever seen. The sand was awesome. Baby powder white and soft, but the murkey swamp water that smelled like it looked was totally a bummer for us. All in all though the hotel made up for it. Great service, great pool and wonderful housekeeping. Definitely needs more for teens than them trying to "hook" up and steal alcohol. A teen disco and teen activities would be a great asset. Take a day trip and check out the gorgeous clear water beaches. A waiter gave us a tip about TORTUGA BEACH a locals only kinda beach. Beautiful. Also, go to the city PUERTO AVENTURAS and go to the hotel near the Dolfin Discovery. Get a day pass for $25 and you get a towel, $20 credit for food and the bar and you can use their pool and amazing bar on the most gorgeous hidden snorkel beach. Just like a corona commercial. After the hurricane ruined the old palapa bar on the beach they re built this amazing beach bar. Just steps to the sand. Great little shops in the area too. GREAT DAY TRIP! Bring a lot of one dollar bills and the staff will keep your drinks a flowin'. Our favorite spot at the pool was next to the "SWING" bar. Not noisy and so relaxing. This resort is sooo enormous. I think we had to walk 2 miles to dinner every night. Great exercise though. Great gym. Great food. Our favorite was the italian restaurant. The golf course is absolutely amazing and our spa treatments were good. Not great, but relaxing. We loved the disco and the staff was amazing!
I think I would like a more authentic not so commercialized spot next trip and definitely a better beach.
My family just returned on 8/23 from a 5 night stay to the Moon Palace Spa & Golf Resort. I will say that I was very pleased by the courtesy of the staff and the beauty and elegance of the hotel, but was disappointed in a few things that I'm surprised were not mentioned frequently in other reviews. The beach is very unappealing. It's extremely warm and full of seaweed. Our room was located on the bottom floor in the Chile section and was noisey almost 24hrs. Even when I woke up and opened the door at 2 a.m. to ask people gathered outside a room 3 rooms away to lower their voices, they continued to talk loudly for another 45 minutes. That was the same night that a cat meowed for almost an hour. Yes, there are several cats throughout the property and some look rather sickly. The housekeeping staff starts their day before 7:30 a.m. so you can hear their carts rambling over the brick or the golf carts speeding by with room service, etc. The ouside dining happened to be very warm and pretty uncomfortable the one night we attempted to eat outside. Other evenings we opted for indoor, air conditioned restaurants. The most unpleasant aspect of the trip was having to go to Guest Services to activate your "Passport" for your tours if that is what your package included. It's a "hook" to get you to go on a tour for their vacation club. It's about a 90 minute tour that takes you from a short introduction and then tour of the rooms included in the vacation package and then a ride to the Golf Course to meet with two other "heavy" sellers for their final pitch. This tour took place within 24 hrs. of our arrival so we were in no frame of mind for purchasing a vacation package when we barely started our vacation. These packages can be heavily negotiated so if you are good at negotiations and you love Cancun, you might benefit from purchasing a vacation package.
My biggest suggestion is try your hardest not to be located on the bottom floor or in the enclosed area where noise just echos.
