I just want to warn anyone who is thinking of staying here - I got my cell phone stolen from my suitcase in my room!! The security here is nonexistant and the manager was unhelpful and tried to tell me that we must have brought guys to our room (definitely not the case!!) It took a lot of effort just to get him to let me use the internet (which he denied having access to at first) to report my phone stolen. The hotel is definitely bare bones and small and the rooms aren't very nice but there is AC and the rooms are pretty clean. The pool is cold and very small. It was a decent budget hotel but unfortunately I return from vacation with no cell phone!

Just returned from a one nite stay here (after several days in Playa del Carmen we wanted to be closer to the airport for our return flight). This is my 4th time staying here but 1st review.

Hotel is small but clean. We had a large room with a king sized comfortable bed, tv that worked and great AC. The bathroom was modern and the shower had the BEST WATER PRESSURE OF ANY HOTEL I HAVE EVER STAYED IN AND WE TRAVEL ALL THE TIME! Room on 1st floor overlooked the pool which is small, but clean and pretty with plenty of chairs.

Breakfast was included and was great - eggs with bacon and quesadillas, fresh fruit, juice and coffee.

I read a book by the lagoon all morning. It was quiet and tranquil and we had a beautiful view.

If you are looking to relax, what a wonderful place. If you are looking to be close to the beach, this hotel is across from the Presidente which still has the nicest beach in Cancun. YOu can walk to the 'action' in about 8 minutes or take the bus which runs 24/7. If you are looking for party central, stay someplace else.

Not grand... not royal but what a wonderful little place! We will return.

Great deal for those wanting a hotel deal with a lot to offer. Grand Royal has friendly staff, a pool, A/C, clean rooms, bathrooms, hot water, comfortable bed, TV w/ English channels, ping pong table, hammocks, sun deck overlooking the lagoon, hut/bar with $1 USD beers and $4 USD meals-no kidding! We booked based on reviews from this site and found our experience to be better than expected. We are not into the whole "Cancun scene" but stayed after a flight into the city before traveling north. First the hotel pictures from expedia's website were deceiving, the rooms were nothing like them. This is a hotel for people who just need to sleep somewhere for a couple of hours.

The hotel is not on the main strip and is about 8 blocks from the downtown, doesn't seem like much but if you walk it several times a day it gets to be a bit much. There is a bus stop right on the main road from hotel and it only cost like 45 peso so that is cool. THE BUSES ARE NOTHING LIKE IN THE STATES. People pile in until the is literally no space left. The hotel is off the main road and pass a couple of houses, so I wouldn't suggest walking back there alone late at night, luckily I was with a group of friends and we stuck together.

There are not any elevators and the stairs are very narrow and slippery so be careful. The rooms are small so don't try to pack people in we had two rooms for 5 people. One was a suite with a kitchen, pretty much the size of a standard room in the states. The bathrooms were clean and nice.

The staff at the little bar/pub was very friendly, though they spoke almost no english. We spent 45 mins trying to ask for salad dressing, it was very funny and both us and the staff got a good laugh in the end. Front desk staff was not very helpful at times and we had to ask other people staying at hotel for information. Overall the staff at pub/bar was friendly front desk not so much, small rooms, and bad location. In the end we learned you get what you pay for.

Pro
In the hotel zone in Cancun and close to the main road. So it is convenient to get to places yet quite at night.
We had a top floor room facing the lagoon. The view is quite nice especially in the morning.
The room is farily clean and bathroom is roomy.

Con
No internet access
The beach is on the lagoon side, so it is not as beautiful as the beach on the ocean side.
