My boyfriend and I just got back from the Oasis last night. We stayed there over Christmas(Dec. 23rd to 30th). I am 19 and he is 21. We had a blast and its not just because we are young, just listen to my review.
I have travelled to many resorts and countries to all inclusive hotels.
I read ever single review on the net before I left and I was kinda upset b/c we paid so much to go over christmas time, but I thought to myseft that I know the resorts are never like Canada or the States and the food is always kinda crappy, so I decided to keep my mind open for my trip. I also have a few things to say about the people that complained, but first I will tell you about my stay at the Oasis Cancun! When we arrived there we checked in(there was no one in line) and we didnt have to pay any deposit for the room(they tell you that if you are under 24 you will have to pay $100 us per person, but you will get it back at the end of your trip) This may be true but in my case , we didn't have to and like I said I am only 19! (I look like i am 12) After check in, we went to the lobby bar to get a drink, the guy was friendly, and we brought him a tip later(b/c I read sooo much about the tipping) The lobby was beautiful, there was even a Christmas tree and music playing. (There is a store in the lobby but do not buy anything from there, its twice as much as anywhere else you go.) We were assigned room 1212, which meant nothing to us untill we opened our door!!! It was crazy! the sea and the beach were 20 feet from our room.
We didnt even request an ocean view or pay for one. I really think its just the luck of the draw for what you room you get. We lucked out though. So shortly (5mins) the luggage was brought to our room and we headed to the beach. The sand was so amazing/. It looked like it was fake. It is worth the trip to Cancun just to see the beach!!! We got some snacks at the Chicken and ribs snack bar by the pool. The fries are good and they have ribs, chicken, cheeseburgers, hotdogs, ect....
can't complain here. You just have to remember that you are in Mexico not Canada or the USA. The best dinner spot to go to is the Italian restaurant. You can get pizza, pasta, calzones, and a few other things.
We were informed that to do any shopping we should go to Wal-Mart and Market 28. To go to both of these you hop on the bus that says "Walmart/Market 28" and you pay 6 pesos, thats like 60 cents us...the Wal-mart was the best. It had everything. You can get liquor and smokes there for so cheap. Liquor was like $10-$20 bucks us., or 100-200 pesos, and a carton of smokes was only $14.43 us!(Marlboro Lights) Buy your cartons there!!! Market 28 was good but you have to bargain the prices for things , just dont pay anymore than what you are willing to.
I bought a ring for $5.00 and the guy started out at $25.00. Dont let them push you around, just say no thanks and walk away and they will bargain the price down for you. Everything in the hotel zone is really expensive to do. $45 to $110 us per person for tours and day trips. I would recommend the snorkelling trip from the hotel. We paid $27.50 /person and went all day. Free booze and boat rides and you get to keep the snokel tube. I really think that its all the luck of the draw. I mean, you have to make the best out of your own holiday and dont hold other people responsible for you having a stressfull time there. We started out great with the awesome room, and then we just made the most out of everything else. We never went out at nite b/c we didn't have the money too. We took $500.00 us and came home with $200. We had a blast. There were some tourists there that were bitching about things like this one lady was complaining at the front desk b/c it was raining and there was no umbrellas in the rooms.....like really, some people just arent happy with anything though and they are the ones that are posting all the crapy reviews. This hotel is really nice. I'm sure there are betters out there but we paid almost 2000 per person for the week and it was well worth the money. The bar tenders were friendly, some were a little slow, but just relax, you are on vacation and you are not pressed for time, just look around and take the view in while you wait.(if you even have to) I also think that it depends on when you go to the Oasis b/c when we first got there it was quiet and there were alot of families and older couples. Near the end of our vacation, there was like a soccer team or something that came in b/c there were pretty rude teens in the lobby bar. We aren't like that so were just got our drinks and went for a walk. You dont have to stay around them if you dont want to. All teens and "twenty somethings " are not bad people, and the people that work at the hotel are not your servents. they are meerly just doing their job. As for tipping for everything, I dont think you need to. We tipped a few times and I didn;t see a change in the service, It was always good. The maid was pretty awesome the first time we tipped, but then she just went back to the basic cleaning job.
Just tip if you want to or you can. I didnt really want to b/c we had already paid so much for the holiday, so we only did a few times, and we were well looked after. I hope this review is helpful. I have a lot of experience in these types of hotels, so you can trust my judgement!!
Oh yeah and take an alarm clock, that way you can get up nice and early to get chairs on the beach. (As with all resorts!) Some of the people that wrote reviews helped me out but some of them are just rediculous, and i think they should never go on an all inclusive vacation again!
The reason I love going on trip s is because it is so different than at home, its hot, humid and lower class. Just keep an open mind to everything and moake the most of what you are given. It shouldnt be a problme to switch rooms if you really dont like the one you have, as I have done this many times in the past. Be nice to the people there, they are hard workers and they want you to enjoy your vacations.
Have a good time, ITs awesome at the Oasis!!!
