We just came back from our really, really cheap vacation to the Oasis Cancun and I can honestly say that 95% of all the negative reviews are people complaining for the sake of complaining.
I did see a coulpe of negatives that I can verify however, The buffet food was less than good and the fact that there is only the lobby bar open after 6pm is a little irritating.
Now the good. We were one of the first to be checked in and it was a little slow but we did get the exact room that was requested. The room was really nice, plenty big with a view of the ocean and a bit of the pool. The tub drained really slowly after a shower but who cares about that anyway. We never did rent the safe and only locked up our suitcase when we left. I did leave a $5 tip out for the maid on the first day and she never even took it, not until the second day when I actually had to hand it to her did she take it quite gratefully. Nice bed and it was cleaned nicely every day.
The food at the restaraunts was pretty good and the best by far was the sushi (wilma rolls) followed by the steakhouse.
Drinks were good and you CAN get drunk, and thats from personal experience (Hurricanes, not sure what is in it but a bubba keg full will erase all of your memories from that night).
The pool is where the action is, pool volleyball ect.. and was always great, games all the time and a good staff, especially Jesus.
The beach has huge rocks along the shoreline that were exposed from the hurricanes, but you can walk down the beach a little north to swim if you want, I really can't fault the hotel for what nature did. The sand is nice and white, a few vendors that hit you up as you were coming off the stairs but after that they never bothered you. One guy looked so thirsty at the end of the day I got him a beer, water and a hot dog and he gave me a necklace without asking.
Never did golf at the course out front, it looked kinda rough to say the least.
The nightlife in Cancun is crazy!! The foam party is really wild from what I remember of the first half (That was the night I drank hurricanes).
It is SO expensive to go out though, between $20 - $50 to get in anywhere but it is an expierience that shouldn't be missed.
Take the bus everywhere, it's cheap and comes every couple of minutes. Never book tours through the hotel!!! We went to Xel-Ha and we booked with a guy at a booth outside of Coco Bongo's named Hawaii, what was $132 in the hotel and $99 online was $87 from him. The tour company picked us up at the hotel and dropped us off there at the end of the day, it is a wonderful place and is worth the trip.

Was the place perfect? No. Was it worth it? Yes. Would I recommend it? If the price was right, absolutly!!
If you want a relaxing vacation and are going there to get some rest then DON'T. This hotel isn't that place and doesn't profess to be.
If you want to have a good time and have a good time during the day and go to the clubs at night, this is a great, cheap place to spend your days and sleep (or pass out) at night.
Take it for what it is and don't expect it to be something it isn't and you will have a good time.

My son, who recently graduated from high school, went on a trip arranged by a high school graduate touring company to Cancun and stayed at the pre-arranged Oasis Cancun Hotel. The third night there, he and his roomates came back to their ransacked room - money, cameras, cell phones, chargers, clothes, etc. were stolen. The rooms have a regular key. When calling from the States to follow up on the incident, I was constantly transferred, unable to get the hotel manager's name or even speak with him/her - and I speak Spanish. Hotel security blamed the incident on my son's traveling companions - who had no access to the room. It was rumored there were four other room break-ins within that same week. While incidents like this do happen, the lack or hotel cooperation and communication and lousy security investigation should make travelers think twice before staying here. My son and his traveling companions even had to demand another room - rather than the hotel just offering to move them.

This review will be short and extremely helpful. Only one restaurant on property is good (Thai). We requested extra towels three days in a row, they never arrived and we ended up swiping them from a cleaning cart. There are prehistoric bidets in the bathrooms that are rusty and you can imagine contracting tetanus just looking at them. Yes this place is cheap, yes it is in the hotel zone, I did have a good time because of the excursions we had booked, but no I would not stay at this hotel again. This review is pure fact and no opinion. I would be embarrassed to recommend this place to a friend or family.

On June 8th we´ve checked-in in the Oasis Hotel at 3 p.m. after 1 hour of qeue, due to an apparent reduction of personnel, as we heard from the person who greeted us at the front desk. We had to sign some papers and, apparently, one of them was about a fee applied to the safety box. No-one explained to us the existence of an additional fee… The room they assigned us had a humid odor, the linen was not clean and the rest of the infrastructure was not well maintained, except for the beautiful gardens.
During night time, after having gone to the beach, we had a shower and found ourselves with the disgusting surprise that water had a foul smell, exactly like a decomposed egg. Even though we let water run for 30 minutes (2 people showered), that odor persisted. On the same day we arrived, immediately after that episode, we went to the reception desk to inform what had happened. We were told that they had ¨a purification system¨ and that we had to ¨let water run for a while¨ (please note that 2 people showered and that water ran for 30 minutes). The only solution we were offered was to move us to the Gran Oasis or to the beach front building for a daily rate of 75 US$ and 50 US$ per person, respectively. Even though we had a budget that allowed us to spend that extra money - but we didn’t -, we do not think it is a proper or logic reply to the problem given that if the structure has a technical failure, the hotel should offer a proper solution.
The hotel has a policy that greets all students arriving for spring break and school trips, not contemplating the fact that families and couples also must coexist with young adolescents. As we were told ¨this building is a student building¨. Every night there was a disgusting show of 18 year-olds drinking, shouting, etc, in the lobby, pool area and room areas. Obviously, sleeping was an “adventure”… We do not think these adolescents should be banned from coming, but the hotel should contemplate other accommodation facilities for families that come here to find some peace and relax.
When we asked for a supervisor to attend our problems no one showed up. As a consequence, we asked for a “complaint book” and instead we were given a piece of plain paper claiming that “it was hotel policy”…
The only thing that made our stay a little bit better was the bar and restaurant personnel. They are nice, always happy, and willing to help you with anything, even though they work double shifts and deal with disgusting guests.
We absolutely DO NOT RECOMMEND this hotel… Four star hotel, that’s definitively not true! It lacks what it takes to gain those stars!!! Do not believe the pictures you see in its website: you´ll find yourself with a nasty surprise!

This was our 5th trip to Cancun/Mayan Riveria. We've stayed at nicer resorts, but then again - we spent more than three times what we paid for this trip. This is not a luxury resort, but we more than comfortably enjoyed ourselves. Would I stay here again? If the price was right, then yes. I think we'll upgrade to the Grand next time to see the difference. We were in phase 2, but phase 1 was closed. The best part of the trip was the service!!!! Everyone went out of their way to thank us for being there. I'm pretty sure the staff talked amongst themselves, because servers and bartenders always knew who we were. FYI-we weren't drunk obnoxious kids and would leave a dollar here and there. No one seemed to expect tips and were very grateful since we did try to tip. I'm glad we read the reviews after we booked!

Check in-
quick and easy. I noticed that we were the quickest to get to our rooms, even though others had gotten there first. I also noticed that others were rude and snippy. I know everyone is tired from flying, airports, and customs-but people everywhere will go out of their way to help nice and polite people first!
Room-
clean and comfortable. The beds aren't as hard as some of the others we've had. Good size bathroom.
Beach-
I stayed at the Oasis back in 2005 and yes the beach is smaller from hurricane damage and erosion, but all the resorts have the same issue. It's still beautiful and relaxing.
Pool-
Had quiet sections and fun sections. Activities Staff were great about trying to get you involved, but left you alone when you wanted to just lay out. Peacocks roam all over along with lizards.
Food-
Brazilian steakhouse is awesome!!! We loved it so much that we went several times. We did check out all the other restaurants and buffet. Food was ok to yum! Our least favorite was the sushi place, but we loved the thai, mediterean, & mexican. Beach snack shack had surprisingly good burgers. We really liked that you don't need reservations, very nice when you're on vacation.
Staff-
Best service we've had!!! So courteous and helpful!!! Housekeeping was fine, we used the safe, but would leave petty cash or IPODS out sometimes.
Wierd Smell-
Yuck! It was on our 4th and 6th days. We noticed that those were the same days that everywhere smelled like rotten eggs. Did it have something to do with the sound and sewer? It always faintly smells like that in Cancun near the sound, but we did notice the smell was stronger outside the resort on the same days it bothered us in our room and back lobby.
