Thank goodness we got this trip at a bargain. I can see why they had to heavily discount the cost.
Complaints:
We had to switch rooms because our air conditioning did not work in the first room. We could not get our TV fixed in our second room for the remainder of the stay after multiple calls; we don't stay in the room a lot so it was not a big issue, just a nuisance.
The noise was also a problem, there were people yelling in the hall ways most of the night, especially at around 4am when the bars closed. I thought the prior complaints had a lot to do with spring break, but apparently not. The other noise was from the heavy table and chairs in the rooms being moved. When you move them the noise will be heard rooms away.
My biggest complaint was that we did not have any bottled water furnished for the rooms or a fridge. The bottled water in the lobby was $7, you can go across the street to a small store by Captain's cove. You would think an all inclusive would supply bottled water.
The Cancun beaches are disappearing. We stayed at this resort seven years ago and the beach was a large expansive area, but they have lost a third of the width of the beach area and you now have exposed rocks you have to navigate if you venture into the surf. Our group came back bruised and scraped because we thought we were up for the task. This goes for most of the hotels along right of the 7 in the hotel zone.
The best part of our trip was going off the resort to Captain's Cove restaurant for Steak and Seafood. It's expensive, but the service is top notch. We also ate at a very good Brazilian style restaurant at the resort. We had good food and good service. The people working in the restaurants were all working hard and trying to service everyone, but it looks like they cut the staff, so you may have to be patient. If you run into a great server, I would recommend tipping them. The people in the restaurants had the best customer service.
I have been to Mexico six times and we are going to the Playa Del Carmen area in two weeks, so I say these things knowing the area and having stayed at quite a few different hotels and areas.
