The Royal Resorts Club International (or Vacation club international – VCI) is a nice property located at the 4.5 km marker along Kukulcan avenue in Cancun. I did not know until after I have made reservations that it is a time share property. Since it is a time share the rate offered was for a week – Sat to Sat, which is great.

The hotel is 5-star with good facilities and amenities and excellent service. It is located along the horizontal leg of the number-7 shaped Cancun and a bit away from the commercialized malls, etc. The beach in this section is shallow, however, the there is a lot of sea grass in the crystal clear water that was a bit of a turn off. The hotel did a good job of clearing it and cleaning the beach front up early each morning but by afternoon, lot of sea grass is washed ashore making the beach a bit unattractive. Along the beach the hotel has several beach chairs, umbrellas and a volleyball court. The hotels rents at no charge, snorkel equipment, sail boats and of course, beach towels are always provided at no charge.

There are two swimming pools on the property. One is more for kids and learning swimmers and the other is for adults and better swimmers. As part of the recent face lift, the pools were converted into heated pools which are nice when it is a bit chilly. The pools were excellently maintained with abundant pool chairs and space around them.

There is sports desk with long hours where you can rent tennis rackets and balls, bicycles and helmets, snorkeling equipment and sail boats and of course, towels. Very convenient and prompt service at all times. The property has a small grocery store that had an excellent variety and collection of items – pretty much everything that you would need. From fresh fruits and vegetables to milk, juices and frozen pizza. Pastries and baked goods arrive fresh every morning.

The room or the villa has a living room, a dining area, a fully-equipped, modern kitchen and two bed rooms. It was very spacious – truly like home. Balconies are attached to the LR and to the master bedroom with chairs to sit out on. The LR had a TV with cable, DVD player, Boombox (CD, cassette and radio), and a pull out Murphy bed. The kitchen was equipped with new GE equipment and other items such as a coffee maker, blender, etc. Everything was provided – can opener, cutting board, salt and pepper shakers, placemats – everything! Maid service was also excellent.

There is a restaurant on the property and a deli for carry out called the Royal Express. One could order pizza with free delivery to the villa. We were limited in what we could get at the restaurant given that we are vegetarian. We ordered Mexican rice and Guacamole from the Royal Express, and they were good.

The resort has an activity center offering activities such as piñata making, Mexican lottery, language classes, pool games, beach games, etc. Most activities we re free and some had a nominal charge for materials.

There is a bus stop right outside the hotel. The R2 and R15 buses take you into Cancun city to the Walmart and very close to the Mercado 28 marketplace. All buses go into the various malls along the hotel zone area. This was very convenient.

The front desk assisted with converting dollars into pesos. Their exchange rate was very fair and in fact better than even the bank!! There is a Thomas More travel agency and a car rental company on the premises. We booked a day long trip on a bus to Chichen Itza thru this travel agency. It was good. However, the travel agency led us to believe that booking through them, the tour would stop only at a few of the Royal Resorts and not at several hotels – however this was not the case. While we were one of the last to be picked up in the morning, we were the last to be dropped in the evening after a total of 8 stops. The bus through the operator Cancun Lines was excellent and the tour guide did a great job. As with any organized bus tour we felt that they could give us some more time during lunch break when they also had some Mexican dances going on. The time was so short we could neither appreciate the lunch nor the dancers. But the overall trip was reasonable value-for-money. The other major bus operator is Grayline.

The Royal Resorts Vacation Club International is a fine resort and I would very highly recommend it to families with children. The villa is very spacious and can comfortably accommodate 6 people making it a great place for a family get together and getaway.

  • Liked — Excellent rooms and facilities, location
  • Disliked — Beach in this area is not the best (lot of sea grass washes ashore, but beach is shallow and good for kids)

If you are looking for a family resort not all inclusive in Cancun, this should be the one, 2 great pools, Huge villa 1000ft sq. with 2 bedrooms, kitchen with all required stuff. A little grocery in the resort if you don't want to eat at the restaurant.
Perfect fit for families. It's calm, kids are entertained.
Entire hotel just been renovated re-opened on Dec 19th 08
Majority of customers are from Mexico or US.

We could not have had a more wonderful stay in Cancun!! The resort has been recently updated.. in fact, we arrived on the first day that it was open post-rennovation. The customer service is top-notch (rivaling Disney, even!!), the resort was absolutely spotless, the food was tremendous, and the activities for our children were perfect. We HIGHLY reccommend this resort for families (we were traveling with 22 of our family members). Anyone from 0 to 100 would have a wonderful time. Please visit!!

After doing quite a bit of research on Condos in the hotel zone in Cancun, we chose the Club International for affordability, location and reviews. The condo is one of the older ones but had obviously been remodeled recently as it was beautiful and clean and the grounds were quite pristine.

We have a family of 5 and got a 2 bedroom, 1 bathroom suite. The master bedroom was not terribly large but much bigger than hotel rooms that we have stayed in, in Cancun in the past. The other bedroom had 2 twin beds and a sink and mirror. There was also a full size murphy bed in the living room area. All of the beds were a bit on the hard side and no one ever had a great night's sleep but it wasn't terrible.

The full kitchen wasn't terribly large but was certainly big enough for 1, maybe 2 people to cook. We cooked several dinners there and had no problem. Our biggest complaint was that there was no dish soap or dish cloths or sponges to wash dishes. There was a dishwasher and soap for that but we didn't want to run that every time we used a few dishes or pans. We eventually bought soap and sponges on a trip to WalMart.

House keeping came every day. She changed our sheets every day, brought new towels and cleaned the kitchen and bathroom, even when we kept everything pretty clean ourselves. A $2/day tip kept her happy and kept us happy with extra care and plenty of supplies too.

Location was great. Relatively quiet, unlike hotels that are in the middle of the club and restaurant scene. We rode the bus everywhere and didn't need to take a cab.

The restaurant, La Palapa, was excellent. It had great food and great service. Actually, there was great service all the way around. Everyone was helpful.

Be sure to take care of money matters at the bank. There are no atms and you cannot get a cash advance charged to your room. You also cannot exchange pesos for dollars at the front desk.

I would highly recommend this condo for anyone who wants a little more living space and wants to be able to cook. It was the same price as other condos, $1200/week in high season, that were simply dumps like the Solymar.

Well this place is a little old but for the price the Villa was ok.

Pros:
good price for 2 bedroom
free shuttle to other sister hotels
bus stops right in front
locaton (for us was good between el centro & the nightlife)
90% of the staff was super nice
free bottle of tequila

Cons
You have to put EVERYTHING on your room card, from your meals @ the bar & restaurants to purchases made at their store, even to purchase tickets for trips.
OLD....needs a face lift
beach is gross, not good for swiming
my mom's money was stolen from the room (beware I heard this happened to a couple people.)
they move you to a different room on Saturdays

* It's true you get what you pay for, but when something comes up missing like your $$$ they act like it's your fault for not putting it the safe. If this happens, report it .....
