“Good People....Clean Room.......GREAT BARTENDER!”

Torre Dorada Cancun

FIRST OF ALL.........TRAVELCOM IS A JOKE, NEVER USE THEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The hotel was a bit mis-represented. The bar was suppose to open at 10am, but didnt until 3pm, the "snack bar" and pool bar were suppose to open at 12pm, but were non existent. The non existence of the outside bar and late afternoon opening of the bar was probably due to the lack of people staying there. We met 2 other couples while there, and saw maybe a total of 5 all together. Which was ok, no crowded pool, or bar. The hotel is right by the lagoon, but was hard too see, and you couldnt get to it to swim in. The beach was right across the street from the hotel, but wasnt a real nice beach, or was part of a hotel and was hard to get on. Took a bus abt 5 min to a nice beach, so it was no big deal. They were doing a bit of construction on the hotel, but it did not really mess with our stay. The pools were great, and not crowded which was a plus.
Right as we got to the hotel a "travel agent" by the name of Fabian greeted us. He was not really a travel agent in the true sense, he made sure everything was ok, and if you had problems or needed anything first. He was not pushy with the tours he would offer, we went on two tours he told us about, excellent fun! He was truely a nice guy, and had EXCELLENT prices on all the tours.
The room was nice, but had a "window" air conditioner, and we had to plug it in when we got there, but once it got going it was nice. The room was clean, and was kept clean every day. The T.V. was ok, and watching the Simpsons in spanish entertained me greatly! The downside was the bed! Very hard, very uncomfortable, just not good. I woke up about 5 times during every night i was there, and probably didnt sleep past 7:30 am. But im sure having a bad sunburn didnt help either. The food at the resturant was not good at all. The only good thing i had was a club sandwich, but we like to going out to eat, and a pizza place was about 5 minutes away and they delievered. Cancun has some excellent resturants so it was not a huge deal.
The best part of the hotel was probably the bartender. The bar was not the best looking in the world, but it had alcohol so thats all we cared about. Gambino (i hope thats how its spelled) was the bartender, a great person all around. Knew alot about Cancun and Mexico in general. He knew us by name and would go out of his way for us. Even though there was not a bar outside, Gambino made sure if he saw us out there, we would always have a drink by our side. Truely a wonderful person, was always excited too see us stop in. One of the highlites of the vacation. Never a shortage of drinks....and strong drinks at that!!!
I would probably not stay at the hotel again unless i was taking my buddies up for spring break, very economical. For the party crowd this place would be excellent. This is not for a honeymoon, or romantic vacation.
The people....mainly Fabian and Gambino made the place tolerable, and somewhat a pleasure to stay at.

We were there when hurricane Wilma hit, even then the staff looked after us. For a 2star hotel the bedrooms were cleaned every day inc new clean towels. Staff very friendly and helpful always willing to please. The entertainment guys arranged parties every night with bus and entry fee for about £17 - £20 each, we went to all the main night spots, they arranged our very own waiters who kept getting you drinks which were inc in the price!. We really enjoyed our holiday and made the most out of our 7 night stay. It's the place to go for a cheap, clean and very friendly hotel.

Torre Dorada Cancun

Just got back from a week all inclusive at Torre Dorada. On first impressions the hotel doesnt look too great - the top floor rooms aren't finished yet and there is no grand lobby as you walk in. The public areas however are very clean and we had a good view from our 6th floor room. It had 2 double beds, cable tv, a very powerfull air conditioner and a shower you could fit a football team into! You get bed linen and towels changed every day too which is great but the only things that were a bit annoying was that there are no tea/coffee making facilities in the room, the tv's have no remotes and the air conditioner is a bit loud but after a few tequilas you don't notice it.

The only real problem is the food. It's nearly always the same every day and its warm and tastless. We did eat here a few times but there's only so many hard potatoes you can eat! Try the pool bar for club sandwhiches/burgers etc. The bar in the hotel does lots of frozen cocktails - in lethal measures (watch out for the red tequila slammers!) and the barman is a real character too!

Maurice at the hotel works very hard and will take you on some wicked nights out and dont miss the day boat trip it's well worth it!

We heard of people moving hotels but we met some great people here and had a good laugh so it wasn't too much of a problem to put up with the food. The people made up for it! The hotel has no way influenced my decision on wether to return to Cancun - there is so much to do there you won't be in the hotel much. i'd go back to cancun again definately!

We`ve just got home from Mexico Sat 17th sept, stayed at this place.what a place from hell.3 star you must be joking our prisons are better.building work in progress, broken sun beds, only 25 per 200 guests, but then,no-one stays here too long,as they request a transfer.we moved up the road to barcello, lovely place.the torre Dorada should be ground graded to either a 1 or 2 star.or be pulled down.Horrid place.

The staff are great and the hotel very clean, the standards of the staff and cleaniness is high, they can't do enought for you and don't care you can't speak the lanugage as they speak good english. this may not be not what you expect of a all inclusive and it certainly isn't in the broucheres but hey you get what you pay for. we read the reviews before we went and knew what to expect but to be honest it was better. the food was fresh, hot and you had a choice of two meat and one fish, you had veg, chips, fruit and salad. dessert what more do you expect. and hey your in mexico so a mexcian night and spicy food is expected your not in england now enjoy the atomsphere and lighten up. we enjoyed our stay but then we only used it for breakfast which was fresh and made to order, and evening meal the rest of the time we toured the area. if your going for a holiday that is spent round the pool then stop been a cheapstake and pay for luxury, in life everything has a value and if you want cheap you get it. this hotel has a long way to go in understanding what all inclusive means but then i blame the tour operator and not the hotel. they are trying but unless the tour operators are prepared to invest and assist them then we get the Mexican version of all inclusive. you can't complain if you went for allocation on arrival as you know your taking pot luck. If you want the Ritz and top class pay for it if you want fun and a great holiday (-) moaning and enjoy yourself. reading the reviews on the other hotels you can get a lot worse for more money. Keep up the good work Torre Dorada your tops for cleaniness, fun and great customer service staff who will go out of their way to make sure your happy.
