My brother and our wives booked Snorkeling Mis-Adventures on Oct-14 and every day it was canceled at the last minute, preventing us from other excursions. On our last day, most every one on the boat felt this was no coincidence as it was their last chance to get their money from us, we were told the trip was on. Here is a recap of the day:
1) The pickup was 35 minutes late and it turns out we could have walked there in 5 minutes down the beach from Secrets.
2) I am an avid snorkeler and a certified diver so I was disappointed to learn that life jackets were required. You cannot dive down and observe the sea life......not that it mattered.
3) We got to our first stop and the visibility was no more than 2-3 feet!! It was so poor that you could not see any coral or fish.
4) Back on the boat most everyone was annoyed that the trip was not canceled and we all paid $75 each.

At this point we asked to be taken back to the beach. 16 of the 20 people on our boat returned after the first swim. We met with Rudy and told him there was no visibility and asked for a refund. He said " That is your problem". Lunch was ready so we said we would eat then walk back to our resort and he said we had to wait an hour for the second boat to come back. We walked back to our resort and enjoyed the rest of the day there.

In summary, we brought our own gear, had no drinks or food, snorkeled briefly at the first stop and still had to pay. I understand that they cannot control the visibility but the trip should not have gone out that day. A few other couples had no choice but to stay as their resort was far away and Rudy would not transport them back. The worst part was how Rudy was very rude to everyone and did not care that we were unsatisfied. I must say we were all polite to him and when I left I told him to look for my review on Trip Advisor!!

I filed a complaint with Juan at Olympus Tours. I forget to mention the feces floating around. Translating that to Juan was funny! Juan was great and very concerned so I do not hold him accountable for our bad day with Rudy.

Save your money and rent a car, drive down to Talum and snorkel there. HAve lunch at ZAMAS on the beach....the best fish anywhere.

My boyfriend wanted to go snorkeling. He had a good idea of where: Cozmel. However, our tour advisor told us the best would be snorkeling adventure in Port. Morelos. He gave us an option of a morning or afternoon trip. The afternoon trip was ten dollars more buy included drinks and lunch. We choose the afternoon trip to sleep in a little bit. It was suppose to be from 10 to 4. we had dinner reservations at 6:30p. We arrived on time. The beach was behind a bumpy dirt road. We arrived with five other vans full of people. The host told us that we could not use our sunscreen unless it was biodegradable. He then told us that reef tax was $3 even though we were told $2. After we got our wrist bands, which stated tax was $2.15, we went to see the price of sunscreen. A tiny bottle was $9. There wasn't enough to cover just one of us. After getting our gear, We got ready then started to load the boats. The boats were divided into english and spanish. The plan was to snorkel in two places (A deep reef and a shallow reef), eat, and go out for one more time. A boat engine wouldn't work so we had to tow them even-though they were still at shore and there were many other boats. The first places we went my googles and lifejacket were both broken and i couldn't see anything. We had to follow the guy from our boat. People were getting hit by fins and running into one another. You were only there for many 10 mins at most. We went to the second place. I finally got my gear fixed. The second stop was just like the first however i could finally see. I saw dead coral everywhere and hardly any fish. The boat we were towing ran into our boat and hit two women and myself. The captain of the boat was in the front of the boat and didn't warn any of us. We went in for lunch. We spent more time on the beach then in the water. Lunch was very good. We stayed on the beach for three or more hours. We finally went our for last stop. They took us back to the shallow place! We were finally done and it took forever to actually load us into the vans. We barely made it in time for our dinner.

We had a great tour but then realized that we had been terribly ripped off. The tour costs $50, as advertised on their website, pamphlets and via the phone, however, when they directly "convert" pesos to charge you it comes out to much more, which we didnt realize until we got our credit card bills back in the states! Even worse, when confronted, Cancun Mermaid DENIED that their price was $50! Apparently they only advertise it as $50 to be competitive with other trips and then once you are on the tour decide to charge you whatever they want. I would have recommended this tour had it not been for this overcharge and subsequent terrible treatment by the company when called out on it. Because of this, I would go with any other company as Cancun Mermaid are scam artists!

We did the snorkeling adventures smaller trip, Reef Adventures on 4/4/08. We were picked up at our hotel, (on time) then moved on to 2 other hotels to pick up others. There was a little difficulty getting snorkeling gear for the 2 small children in our boat of 16 – they were pretty young, 3 and 5 I would guess, but they were able to get them jackets and fins, goggles that worked.

The sea was a bit rough that day, but I thought the guides did a great job of moving us around, making sure everyone could keep up and see all the amazing fish, coral, etc. Even a sting ray! The second dive was closer still to the reef, and because it was shallow, even more of a workout, but it was worth it. The staff could not control the weather and did a great job making sure we were all in control.

The meal at the end was excellent, and the staff was very attentive and helpful.

I would do this trip again!

Paradise Reef Snorkeling:

Married Couple 28M, 26F (w/ 1.5M that stayed home in USA)

Not worth the $45US per person, reef has not recovered from hurricanes, didn’t see as many fish as we were expecting and water was really rough. Booked before leaving home. Advertised as 2nd largest reef in the world.

Booked through Cancunvista.com

You are taken by bus 1.5 hours south from Cancun down the Mayan Riviera to Marina Maroma Paradise. It’s a hotel/marina. Then you load on sail boats and ride on top of the boat out to the reef. You are swimming and snorkeling 100 yards from the beach. The boat anchors 20 yards from the reef and then you hit the water.

The day we went the wind was up and so were the waves. It was difficult to do the snorkeling part of it in the rough waters, in my opinion it was not suitable to kids under 15 years of age.

We saw a flounder, sting ray and some other pretty fish. But as difficult as the swimming was and the few number of fish we saw along with the 3 hours in the bus it wasn’t worth the money.

Tips:
Take: snacks, bottled water, towel, sun block, camera and a change of clothes (you don’t want to ride 1.5 hour back to Cancun wet). They have lockers and showers, but have to change in the bathroom Stretch before you get started it is a lot of physical activity.

The Beach club area was where you can hang out after the snorkeling or do other activities (jet ski, 4 wheeler) was beautiful.
