I have stayed at resorts in Mexico for 20 years. All of the stays have been at all inclusive resorts. I decided to take the kids this time(teenagers) and did not want to be cooped up in a hotel room with everyone so I chose to rent the condo. The Salvia is not elegant. It is basically a hotel with a travel agent to book tours. Do not expect any activities that you get at the all inclusives. No buffets or any of that. Hence the low price. Take the bus into the city of Cancun and stock up on food at the Wal Mart. Believe it or not there were more Mexicans in that Walmart than the one in Houston! The view from the penthouse was unbelievable and probably the best i've ever had. The front was a perfect view of the beach and the back was the same of the lagoon and entertainment district. A few minutes walk away was the mall, restaurants, and supermarkets. The room was very roomy and comfortable by mexican standards(hot water, water flow, etc). Did not like that the pool closed early and the first night the elevator was broke(long walk on stairs to the 9th floor) but overall it is an economical way to go. Do not miss going to the El Shrimp Bucket for all u can eat shrimp & beer for 25usd!. It was great! Be sure and charge everything you can on your credit card, as the exchange rate is better when it comes through. Alfredo, the tour agent is excellent. Just tell him what u want to do and he'll take care of it. I suggest Garrafon on Isla Mujeras.
