We were at this hotel when Conquest on Wednesday went bankrupt. There were about 40 rooms involved and we met as a group with the manager. Never once did we feel treatened as reported in the papers. As a result, we had to pay $l00 per room per night, which we are now trying to get back from TICO and the hotel offered us a free week stay if we book before Nov. We will definately go back not because of the offer but because of the way we were treated. We didn't evey pay our bill until Sat. and we left on time Sunday. The food was exceptionally good for a 4* resort and the shows very entertaining. Our Conquest rep was even there every day until the last customer had left even though she was not getting paid. The Hotel is small, smaller than what we usually go to, but we will be back.

My husband and I stayed at the Riu in February and I returned with my friend her teen daughter and my teen daugther in April and was looking for a cheaper resort so we returned to Oasis Viva. We stayed here last year and the girls only wanted to stay here especially for the Sushi and the beach. For the money I have ABSOLUTELY no complaints. It was cheap and by far the best beach that I have seen anywhere including the Riu. Access to the water is inviting and easy with no awkward gates. You walk directly in from the flat sand. Dos Lunas for lunch takes a long time but delicious and a good way to take a break from the sun as we would go out there by 8:00 a.m. We partyied at "The City" and "Coco Bongo" and on the other 4 nights we just had some cocktails around the hotel. Certain evenings there is entertainment. The food is not unbelievable but we always managed to eat something and took comfort in the fact that with the cheaper rate we paid we could go out and eat also. The staff couldn't be nicer and I have never seen people cleaning constantly at any resort. If you stay at the grand oasis viva which is the newer section and you get a black band you can go to this really nice bar on premises and relax. We did not have the black band and as far as I was concerned the "class issue" did make me a bit uncomfortable as we stayed at the lower end price. Not sure that $60 per night additional was worth paying for the black band since we could have extra money to go to the strip which was well within walking distance. Best bang for the buck.

My first mistake was booking the trip to the Oasis Viva after reading some of the reviews!! Im not a picky person at all but some things I was just not satisfied with.. First, NO SWIM UP BAR as they described there was. We went to Cancun in Oct and had a fabulous time at the RUI. One of the greatest things there that we couldnt wait for was the swim up bar.. Wasnt in service the whole time we were there. I mean, how hard is it to put some bottles of liquor there and make drinks?
We did some sightseeing one night and didnt get back until 930. We went to eat at the Buffet and was pretty much gone and TERRIBLE!! The buffet is open until 1030 so we thought we had plenty of time..NOT SO.. We hadnt eaten since about 2:00 so needless to say, we went to bed starving.
On the 3rd night, our key wouldnt work in the door. My husband and I went back and forth from the 10th 4 times trying to solve the problem. Only after sitting in the hallway for almost and hour did someone finally come up and put new batteries in the lock.
We were there 5 days and the sheets were never changed, the same stain we saw on the first night just happen to move its way around the bed..from the top left corner to the top right corner, u get the idea.
The first morning they ran out of towel cards so we had to drip dry until we finally went upstairs and used our bath towels. That was fun.
We enjoyed the pool though, had beautiful weather and enjoyed the shopping around the resort but under no circumstances would we ever stay at the Oasis again. Also, if you are looking for something to do at the resort throughout the day..this resort is not the one for you.

starving.

My husband and I booked our honeymoon at the Oasis Viva Beach from March 31st to April 9th 2009! After reading all the horror stories on the blogs, I was so worried that my almost two week honeymoon in Cancun would be disastrous! Upon arrival, I was pleasantly surprised to see that the staff was very welcoming and the hotel was very nice for a three star. Our room was clean, comfortable and the balcony view was breathtaking!! The food was good but repetitious only because our stay was so lengthy. I loved the sushi bar and the Mexican restaurant! This hotel is a great place to visit with the best beach! We had three waiters there that really took great care of us. In case you visit, ask for Arnulfo, Corona, and Leo!

This hotel was well worth the money… Yes it is only considered a 2 star so my expectations weren’t’ very high… But I just went to a 5 star luxury resort last August in Mexico not too far from the Viva so I had a lot to compare it to. So all the more I can’t believe the things people complained about, most of whom probably haven’t even experienced the 5 star comparisons I have… This lead me to believe they are just complainers and if you are looking for Starbucks coffee in Mexico (even though it IS across the street) you probably should just stayed home or vacationed nearby… Who goes to experience another country to look for Starbucks??… And if you want NY pizza or NY steaks again stay home or go to NY..

The Oasis Viva was an overall positive experience.. The staff was friendly, the food was good, and the beach was great… Check-in was ok.. They actually offered for us to go up and look at a room on the Grand side because we were about to pay for an upgrade… I was very surprised the man offered us a peak BEFORE paying anything… After we did look we decided not to do the upgrade.. The view wasn’t great and the room wasn’t much better either. The regular room was the same quality just regular TV and older bedspread…. The view in our regular room was great and the room was a good size.. NO problems with anything…
The beach was great. YES there are rocks in the water but when you get past a certain point it’s better and well worth it.. Also if you walk over to the left it’s a lot better…
The pools were full of leftover spring breakers and a lot of kids so we didn't go in them at all… The difference between the pool areas and beach were like night and day.. So if you want less people and less activity around your head the beach is a better spot.

The food was pretty good. People that complain I don't really understand.. They have like 30 choices of things to eat so of course they will repeat things! And for so much complaining on the past reviews I sure did see a lot of people filling their plates with food!
We didn't try the restaurants or the snack shack….

The surroundings were really nice. I loved eating outside with the birds in the morning and the moonlight in the evening. The service in the buffet area was ALWAYS good.. We did tip but didn't really get the same waiter all the time so our good service wasn’t because of money.

They did have entertainment the nights we were there. It was enjoyable and did not go on way too late which was nice too….

I dunno.. We just enjoy being in Mexico… Being together… So the coffee is instant… So you have to buy bottled water….. So things in the buffet repeated sometimes…. So there were rocks in the water… You should be there to enjoy the company you are with, to have some wine and conversation and relax on the beach in the sun or shade (also not a problem)….. Although we are going back to our 5 star, we definitely plan to make the Oasis Viva a perfect weekend getaway when we need it.
