Booked at the Royal Solaris, but because of the unfounded swine flu scare, was moved to the GR. I had done a great deal of research on the Royal, and think I may have been better off there.
It was very quiet when we first got there, Arrived May 28-June3 (we actually left a day early) After the weekend, a great deal more folks started arriving.
The weather was gorgeous, and Cancun was nice.
The hotel staff at the pool did a good job of trying to keep everyone occupied, but it was the same thing after a few days.
The food was plenty, but the quality was just ok. I've been to an AI in Punta Cana and this did not compare. No sickness however, drank bottled water the whole time. Marco Polo was good, and the dinner shows had better food.
The maid service was good, I paid well to ensure I received water.
The beach was a little disappointing if you are like me and like to walk for miles! My daughter and I went for a walk that was more like a hike and came back after about 15 mins.
The hotel desk staff were not very accomodating or friendly.
Had a bad experience with both the hotel store and the hotel travel agency. I was sold tickets to a ferry to Isla Mujeres that was not running. We got up early, took a bus and had to turn around and go back to the hotel.
In both cases the Fr Desk Manager claimed that they were not "with the hotel" and there was nothing he could do. Not a customer friendly management staff at all.
If you like to party, and hang at the pool bar this is the place for you, otherwise I'd try someplace else.

The place was beautiful. Clean, comfortable rooms. Amazing staff that really bends over backwards to help you out. There is no sign of the flu in Cancun. We had a wonderful week there.
To note: If renting a car, be prepared to be pulled over and harassed by the police. We were pulled over twice in three days for "speeding", which we were not doing. It seems the bus and taxi drivers are in cahoots with the police because if you go the posted limit, the buses and cabs are on your tail trying to get you to spreed up. If you do start going with the flow of the traffic, a police car will be immediately there to pull you over. Very sad to say, but beware. We are a very conservative couple in our late 40's and we were targeted all the way. The police will offer to settle right away for $130.00 US and let you on your way. If you don't, they keep your drivers license and you need to appear at there station to get it back.
Such a shame for these actions to leave such a sour taste in our mouths about Cancun.

We, like many others, decided to go to Cancun despite the Swine flu situation and it was the best decision we could have made. Everything turned out great. The hotel was clean, not overcrowded, great attention, and relaxing. I don't know what the hotel is like at full capacity but I loved it just the way it was. Everything was clean and beautiful.
One of the complaints I have is that we were talked into doing the timeshare "90 min" presentation just to get 50 bucks off an ocean view room. We were told is was just going to be over breakfast and quick and easy. Yeah right, it took well over 2 hours and they were really pushy. My husband and I would just look out at the beautiful sun outside and started to get really annoyed. The other thing was the cost of a local call was overpriced and even worse , they even charged us for a "free" 1-800 call inside Mexico. Besides that, we loved Cancun and would go back if we could right away. Overall we would recommend this hotel to our friends and family just stay away from the timesharks! We had a great time.

My rating is truly Excellent on this beautiful resort. My room was spacious and clean I had room 8444 with a gorgeous view of the ocean and the pools.
Every employee from the front desk to the cleaning people was friendly and kind. There was lots of food to choose from. The breakfast buffet was amazing. Took an all day tour that the hotel offered to Isla Mujeres where we did snorkeling, swam with dolphins, took a bike tour to a Sea Turtle sanctuary and shopping from the local merchants! Was worth the price. The beach at the hotel was beautifully clean and the sand is amazingly soft. The adult pool is large and the family pool is the swim up pool so that the adults can watch their little ones while sipping on an adult beverage. Makes perfect sense to me. I hope that tourism picks up here for the sake of these wonderfully hard working people.

We supposed to be in the Royal Solaris but were "upgraded" to the GR. We have never been to an all-inclusive before so we had very few complaints and were happy with our accomodations.

The GR is beautiful, the food was good, the service was great, the entertainment was good most nights.

The beach is small (lost to the hurricanes), the room was of the qualify of a Marriott, the pool was nice but doesn't have a smooth bottom, the pool staff (Alain, Robby, Madaid, etc. were fun), and the wait staff was excellent.

We met many others who have been to the Royal Solaris and told us how much better that resort is, but this was our first time down there and the GR was perfect for us.
