Me(28yr.s) and my husband(29 yr.s) stayed here with his parents(late 40s) for 1wk. This is the 4th time 2 Cancun/Maya Rivera but the 1st visit for his parents. 1st time staying @ a 3***.
This was definitely a 3***. Exterior was fine, interior like the hallways and bedrooms needed a make over from the 80s. Hubby annoyed that we had 2 ask few times for them 2 replace the shower head...was like a single stream of water. The shower ceiling was rusting and yes, we did see mold inbtw. the wshrm. tiles.
The tv had BAD reception of 4 channels and did not even turn on towards the end of the week.
Maid service was good and the waiters were very polite.Lock your door if u wanna sleep in, maids try 2 enter suite 2 clean.
Lobby ONLY exhg.s USD for pesos so bring sm.er USD.
Food was okay for the price u pay...main buffet's breakfast starts out good then is a rehash of the same thing everyday: chicken, beef, pork, fish, rice, potatoes.
Mom in law thought we would get some prawns/ crab/ lobster...no such luck. Food gets cold fast and the salad bar/fruit bar is usually warm.
Feel like a burger? Found @ side pool bar/buffet. Alcohol either 2 tame/super strong and beer was often warm. SLOW service @ the bars.
Seafood grill lunch(catch of the day/ salmon/ mahi mahi/ calamari) above the beach was better then the buffet. Same spot (nite) is the Steak house a la carte...very friendly /more attentive waiters.
Tip: get day pass 2 go over 2 sister hotel:Sierra which is 2 hotels over next to thte Hyatt. Check out their buffet and try their al ala carte Mexican restaurant: The beef specialty is BETTER than the steaK house.
Noticed that lots of the Continental guests would be here for the food or the beach/ pool. We weren't the only 1s!
Tip: Be in line like @ 7am 2 book reservations at guest services desk for the a la carte restaurants...usually books up fast!
The equipment staff were not only rude/ snappy 2 kids but also 2 adults. Group of guests including my dad in law and hubby were annoyed that these staff members were always LATE opening their OUTDATED gym and that they seem 2 hate lending out the tennis rackets. Same staff were in charge of sportS: volley ball, handball which did NOT exist.
They stood around yacking with gals.
Hard working cleaners seen on grounds all day.
Told that luguage would be locked in room when checkout comes along...Lucky if the bell boy noticed it!
Safety deposit box is $2.75 USD per day.
Tours: Last yr. for u 2 climb the amazing Chi Chen Itza temple. Worth seeing these ruins! $60usd includes lunch and transportat.: best days Tours desk. BE AWARE for those prone 2 seasickness: 1/4 the people on the sub boat/snorkle tour were nauseous/threw up.
Adventurous?GO on own 2 Isla Mujures: North beach AWESOME,less commercialized her and at Playa Del Carmen.
Continental's Beach was clean and best feature of the hotel! Few palapas but walk further towards Sierra's beach for more private spot on beach.
Go towards the gym/pool room in the Villas area offers more chairs for tanning.
Rooms on lagoon side were ok...can hear traffic. Mix of families, students and seniors as guests.
Check out theme dinner shows in the theatre. Food worth trying: caribbean/mexican
For the price we paid, Continental Plaza was ok....the $ we saved, we used towards the tours.
