Me(28yr.s) and my husband(29 yr.s) stayed here with his parents(late 40s) for 1wk. This is the 4th time 2 Cancun/Maya Rivera but the 1st visit for his parents. 1st time staying @ a 3***.

This was definitely a 3***. Exterior was fine, interior like the hallways and bedrooms needed a make over from the 80s. Hubby annoyed that we had 2 ask few times for them 2 replace the shower head...was like a single stream of water. The shower ceiling was rusting and yes, we did see mold inbtw. the wshrm. tiles.

The tv had BAD reception of 4 channels and did not even turn on towards the end of the week.

Maid service was good and the waiters were very polite.Lock your door if u wanna sleep in, maids try 2 enter suite 2 clean.

Lobby ONLY exhg.s USD for pesos so bring sm.er USD.

Food was okay for the price u pay...main buffet's breakfast starts out good then is a rehash of the same thing everyday: chicken, beef, pork, fish, rice, potatoes.

Mom in law thought we would get some prawns/ crab/ lobster...no such luck. Food gets cold fast and the salad bar/fruit bar is usually warm.

Feel like a burger? Found @ side pool bar/buffet. Alcohol either 2 tame/super strong and beer was often warm. SLOW service @ the bars.

Seafood grill lunch(catch of the day/ salmon/ mahi mahi/ calamari) above the beach was better then the buffet. Same spot (nite) is the Steak house a la carte...very friendly /more attentive waiters.

Tip: get day pass 2 go over 2 sister hotel:Sierra which is 2 hotels over next to thte Hyatt. Check out their buffet and try their al ala carte Mexican restaurant: The beef specialty is BETTER than the steaK house.

Noticed that lots of the Continental guests would be here for the food or the beach/ pool. We weren't the only 1s!

Tip: Be in line like @ 7am 2 book reservations at guest services desk for the a la carte restaurants...usually books up fast!

The equipment staff were not only rude/ snappy 2 kids but also 2 adults. Group of guests including my dad in law and hubby were annoyed that these staff members were always LATE opening their OUTDATED gym and that they seem 2 hate lending out the tennis rackets. Same staff were in charge of sportS: volley ball, handball which did NOT exist.
They stood around yacking with gals.

Hard working cleaners seen on grounds all day.

Told that luguage would be locked in room when checkout comes along...Lucky if the bell boy noticed it!

Safety deposit box is $2.75 USD per day.

Tours: Last yr. for u 2 climb the amazing Chi Chen Itza temple. Worth seeing these ruins! $60usd includes lunch and transportat.: best days Tours desk. BE AWARE for those prone 2 seasickness: 1/4 the people on the sub boat/snorkle tour were nauseous/threw up.

Adventurous?GO on own 2 Isla Mujures: North beach AWESOME,less commercialized her and at Playa Del Carmen.

Continental's Beach was clean and best feature of the hotel! Few palapas but walk further towards Sierra's beach for more private spot on beach.

Go towards the gym/pool room in the Villas area offers more chairs for tanning.

Rooms on lagoon side were ok...can hear traffic. Mix of families, students and seniors as guests.

Check out theme dinner shows in the theatre. Food worth trying: caribbean/mexican

For the price we paid, Continental Plaza was ok....the $ we saved, we used towards the tours.

My wife and I picked up a 4 night/3day all-inclusive package over a weekend in February 2004. We stayed in room 4468, which had a nice view of the ocean and that is where our problems started. The moment you opened our door the odor of a broken sewer pipe hit you like a ton of bricks. Sadly, it seamed to be related to the air conditioning unit.
Keeping the A/C off cleared the air somewhat. We were awaken on Saturday morning by a young male and female from housekeeping making their rounds to spray pest control chemicals. No thanks, I can only deal with one odor at a time. Complaints everyday to the front desk about the room odor went unanswered. No one seemed able to followup on my request for feedback for resolution. This hotel needs some work/thorough maintenance. Grout in bathroom tile was either missing or done by a 10 year old...Very sloppy. On the good side, the made-to-order omelets and other breakfast buffet items were excellent.
The buffet for lunch left much to be desired. I suggest eating at the cafe/restaurant along the ocean front which is sitdown service. Good food and the wait for seating was only a few people deep, if that.
Tried to get reservations for the 'sought after' italian restaurant but the sittings were booked within 30 minutes of the opening of reservations each morning. The Poolside massage was excellent! Poolside entertainment was okay as well. There was a sea lion show the first day there. The music pool side was a little loud at times and the DJ didn't seem to know what he wanted to hear as he started some songs and abruptly changed them less than a minute into them. The snack bar was okay and we had no problems getting drinks outside. Hotel location was great, walking distance to just about everything. My recommendation though is to spend a few dollars more for quality.

OK...First of all for the people trying to decide on a Hotel to stay in, don't read any of the reviews that are rated lower than 5 because they are not true and this Hotel deserves nothing lower than a 5. If there was higher than 5 many others including myself would have chosen higher. This Hotel is one of the best hotels i have ever stayed in. I don't know why some people write bad things about it but if those people writing bad things about this hotel didn't like what they got, than you must be Extremely PICKY and your better off staying home if you didn't like it because there was not a single thing wrong with the hotel. The food is great, the hotel & the rooms couldn't get any cleaner it is Super, we didn't even see one insect or creature, and the staff were just OVER THE TOP! I mean each and every one of them was very helpful, and had a smile from ear to ear the whole time, they would see you and ask how everything is going, the welcoming there was very warm and it was like they couldn't wait for us to check in and begin our vacation. We had asked for a balcony suite and they didn't have any when we arrived but the lady at the front desk (Eunice) told us not to unpack our luggage because she wanted to make us happy and try finding us a balcony suite. She would call us everytime someone checked out for us to go see the room and if we liked it or not. The staff there are awesome, from the Restaurants to the hotels to the Beach. And you know what, we didn't even tip anyone to get the room we wanted so don't believe that you have to tip everytime you want something. They prove to you that they are more than willing to help you get what you need and give you the satisfaction your seeking.
Tipping is your choice. All in All, this Hotel is the best! Go with Continental and you will be Completley Satisfied!!!

This resort was great and the last review about that guy named ANGEL is true, he helped us get a Great Room to, slipped him a 200peso($20.00) and he was at our door 0700 the next morning picking up our luggage and moved us into a OceanView room overlooking the beach. The pool area is a great place to hang out, lots of activities during the day, check out the beach it is fantastic, water was like bathtub temps. The food was good but you need to check out the sister resort to, they have excellant food. As for the night life, the lounge bar is great but the hours are not long enough, stays open until midnight some nights til 100am, then you have no choice but to hit the clubs, the Coco Bongo is the club to hit as they have a great show and good music, also the Bulldog has a live band. As for buying items anywhere the key word is BARTER, if not, your getting ripped off !!! I will being going to Cancun again, its a fantastic place and non-stop fun !!! As for meeting new people, do not be shy, everyone is there to let their hair down so to speak, met the Canadian Verison of the Hilton Sisters, ladies from all over, Right NIKKI :-) Ratchel :-) Shawna :-) Had a Blast. Sorry to part, Happy to meet again. Cheers S.

We just returned from a week at the Continental Plaza. As was stated in many other reviews, we initially had concerns about staying here after reading previous reviews. We were very pleasantly surprised by what we found. Our ocean front room was wonderful! The food was plentiful and good. The beach is beyond description - great sandy area and beautiful clear water. We spent most of our time relaxing on the beach and playing in the waves. Previous reviews have mentioned the lack of shaded areas and umbrellas and chairs by the pool. We have never stayed anyplace where there have been more chairs than people - the reason most people are on vacation is to relax by the pool and enjoy the warm sunshine. The best thing to do is plan ahead and save your chair and umbrella by the pool. This was our second trip to Mexico, but first time in Cancun. We will definitely go back again!
