First off, I want to start off by saying I love this hotel. I was devasted when the hurricane tried to take it away from us. Luckily, the owners decided to reopen and in fact; make a new chain of hotels simply called Aqua (another part of posadas).
When you pull up, you are greeted warmly with there saying In Lakchy or like I said In Nick Lachey. When you walk in and through the hotel the smell is incredible. The lobby is modernly decorated with water features and large glass windows all throughout
Aromatherapy: is pumped all throughout the hotel and at night you simply check off the scent you wish and they will ignite it in your room during turn down service. Note: The aromatherapy is very powerful, maybe not good around small kids and older people or those with asthma. I know one man found it hard to breathe and it irritated kids eyes. This resort is best for couples or girls weekends, or the elite.
Room Service/Pool Food: We got room service several times. They charge $4.00 for delivery and offer a 24 hour menu. For breakfast I can tell you the eggs benedict is delicious and they come with the best potato like side. I also enjoyed the carpaccio and caprese salad several times. Lunch around the pool was good. The burger was $18 but huge and plenty to split, it came with fries as well. They offered pizzas, turkey clubs, nachos, potato skins and so on. Mojitos and Bloodys were $13-$16 a drink and I loved both of them. Sol was around $8. Liter of figi water $12.
Pool Concierge: greeted us every morning and took us to where we wanted to lay out during the day. Cabanas are $100.00, pool chairs are free, we did both. The cabanas are great to sleep in or for when you've had too much sun. The pool chairs are cushioned and very comforable. You could grab as many towels as you wanted. I love that! Throughout he day, they would come around and offer fruit skewers, brownies, and cool mint hand towels (very refreshing).
The pool situation: One pool is the swim up bar pool, louder music and secluded. Very nice, cool temperature. The lap pool is the warmest of all of them. It is like bath water. The pool inside of that closest to the beach is a little cooler but refreshing. The other two connecting pools are 73 and 78 degrees. There others are also heated. Around the pool area is a smaller jacuzzi...very hot! In total 8 different temperatures of heated pools. Awesome and my favorite part of the hotel.
The beach: Small, but not bad. They are constantly combing for rocks and improving the situation every day. Big enough for two layers of cabanas and chairs down below. The last couple of days the flags were on yellow rather than red (danger). The ocean, of course always beautiful and warm! They just put the roped out area on friday (02/08/2008) in the ocean.
The bars: Downstairs was the wine and tequila bar. Opens around 5-5:30 and closes between 11 and 1am, depending on customers. 2 tvs and a pool table and located on the pool floor (P). A very nice selection of cordials including Louie and champagne! And decorated with bar stools, couches and cool luxury hotel books. Upstairs is called Egos and is located on the Lobby floor (L). Beads are hung from the ceiling lights and cool couches everywhere. Once again, a nice slection of cocktails. This bar closes later than the other between 1 and 4 on some nights, opens around 7pm.Our bill on an average night was about $275.00, but we like to drink wine and dirty belvedere martinis.
Staff: Incredible! Friendly...everyone was incredibly friendly! We could tell you everyones names they were so great! In fact, its what makes this hotels bad things better. They went out of there way for everything. My husband needed medicine, we asked where to go and Raphael went out and got it for us. Just great! Not one bad staffer there!!!
Food: mb was delicious! We met Michelle and she was so sweet. She will be on Martha Stewart on tues 02/12. The food incredible. Brunch buffet at Siete was $26 per person and included mimosas and bloodys. Sushi, cheeses, omlete bar, soups, fruit, cereals, bacon, potatoes and so on. You could also order off the menu. Never really ate at Azul.
The Room: This is where the hotel loses a star. Let me go back realy quick: Now, the hotel had their grand reopenning party on Feb 9, 2008. It was incredible! They had mexican celebrities, their government officals, models and the owners all there. The ribbon cutting ceremony and then the fashion show outside. Basically, Friday and Saturday they gave out rooms to all the important people to come and experience the Aqua. So that weekend it was packed. They had waiters everywhere and handing out wine, martinis, beer, bottled h2o and anything else you could want (all open bar last sat) Then all the food from mb, siete and azur...fantastic. muy bien! Up until this event we had turn down service. We never had turn down on Friday or Saturday. The first room, the tv didn't work, the safe didn't unlock and the room service didn't come the first day at all. We switched rooms on the 3rd day because our phones stopped working. The next room was nice, same size, but the door lock stopped working. Oh, and our porch chairs and table came in on thursday...so now everyone can sit on there decks! it was just one thing after the other with the rooms, but I believe this is because they were rushing around for the party that weekend. I think in time, the hotel is going to be a huge success!!
Location: About 25 minutes from the airport. They do offer pickup and drop off service with their Navigators and Hummers, I believe it was $125 each way. If you use the taxis at the airport I believe it was $85 roundtrip. Across the street is the La Isla Mall. With everything you could need or want. Perfumes, clothing, sunglasses, minimarts, carmera supplies, Starbucks, McDonalds. We ate at La Madonna great Caesar table side and a nice bottle of Brunello...yumm! Had a couple of cocktails at The Thai Lounge, very cool. Secluded and couches everywhere.
Spa: Nice. We had massages. Swedish massage for 50 minutes was 110 or 70 for 30 minutes. Facilities included sauna, eucalyptus room, steam room, whirlpool, hydrprefloexology, lockers, robes, and they great you with mint tea. If you just want to use the facilities it was $20 a day or $100 a week. Molton Brown products available. They have scubs, facials, wraps and baths too! To learn more click on www.spaaqua.com
Gym: Great view of the pools! They keep the temperature very cool inside which i love! All Life fitness equipment. Pretty muxh a complete gym. TV's inside the stairclimbers and treadmills.
Free for guests to use.
In all, definately my favorite hotel. A great combination of everything! Location, pools, beds, aromatherapy and relaxation combined with an awesome staff. Now we are not hard to please, so I'm sure the room issues would dissapoint most. But for us, the room is a place to get ready and rest, not to hang out in, although when you pay for something you should get it and have it working. In time, I think it will definately come together. Hope this info helps in your decision and if you go tell them Paulis and Lisa say hola!!!
