Cancun is a great place even without La Isla but with it the magic of Cancun puts it above and beyond expectations. La Isla has wonderful shops, restaurants, and if you like to roam about and window shop over canals and on the edge of a beautiful lagoon, then you may just think you died and went to heaven.

The aquarium is a must see for families. The dolphin show is fantastic. Prices are not as reasonable as the market places about town but it is cheaper than Palm Desert. Check it out. You will love it

Plaza La Isla is a large modern shopping village with everything from souvenirs, restaurants, aquarium, jewelry, clothing, cosmetics, etc. It's location is in the middle of the hotel zone and is hard to miss. For 65 cents, the bus stops right in front of the mall. The public restrooms on the second floor by the escalators are actually very well kept and clean for such a large mall. The prices and selection of souvenirs are comparable to the prices in Market 28. Highly recommend going to Plaza La Isla rather than Market 28.

definately a place to stop by for some shopping or just a walk. the stores are decent and the restaurants are pretty good if you are looking for something similair to home. personally like the authentic dining holes instead.

Now I am not much of a Mall Guy ... but The Isla Mall is a nice spot to just walk around, browse, eat, take in the Aquarium, or go the the Movies.

We ate at the Thai Lounge. It opens at sunset and is set right on the Lagoon, so try for a reservation with your own little hut right on lagoon. The food is great, good service and not 'over the top' prices. Their louge area has a view or the shark tank, which is entertaining. Also had dinner at seafod restaurant at aquarium, which is pretty casual. The menu is limited and the ceviche was great .... I suggest keeping it basic here, for a moderately priced night out. You can see the dolphin tank as you dine and also the shark tank ... a scaled down Cancun version of EPCOT Living Seas. We also had gelato at Itallini, which was nice.

A great outdoor mall that caters to every age and taste. It has many shops - catering from cheap tourist type products all the way up to high end jewellery and clothing.

There is a cinema / movie theater as well as an aquarium.

The best thing about the mall is the design - it is beautiful to walk around.

Restaurant wise it offers a huge choice, with everything from McDonalds (there are actually 2 - and I don't think you will find many with a better view) and Planet Hollywood to Mexican (both hole-in-wall style and a beautiful authentic style sit-down restaurant) to fantastic upscale eateries.

My favorite night out in Cancun with my wife is:

1) bit of window shopping (and maybe even buy some things!)
2) followed by cocktails at La Madonna (stunning dining room and upstairs bar, but not the best food for the price)
3) then to Thai (formerly Thai Lounge - it is easy to miss but definitely worth seeking out). Food is very good (and I am not really a fan of Thai food, and definitely don't like spicy food) but setting is fantastic and incredibly romantic. Some of the tables are basically tree houses, but for romantics they have over-water palapas for two - doesn't get any better. Oh, and the bar has windows into the dolphin aquarium.
4) If we are still up for it a - movie!
