The Terracaribe is located on the corner of two fairly busy roads, about a 15 minute walk from the centre of Cancun proper, nowhere near the "tourist zone".

While this may not sound like a promising start this turned out to be a pretty good hotel for our purposes. If you want a chance to see a more everyday Cancun, rather than the isolated tourist zone this is a pretty good base.

The area its is in is a little unprepossessing (a touch industrial to be honest) but as you approach, the clean white painted hotel stands out.

The rooms are set back from the road in a series of buildings that surround two courtyards, one of which contains a pool and jacuzzi. The rooms are basic but comfortable, with effective airconditioning, decent beds and a high standard of housekeeping.

It is a fair walk into Cancun (and a similar distance to the port that takes you to the Isla de Mujeres - well worth a visit for a relaxing day) but if you don't fancy it taxis are plentiful and inexpensive.

I booked this hotel because it was the closest I could find to the Isle Mujueres ferry. Very nice decor here, very updated, and simple. Nice pool area. This place is not for Senior Citizens or clutzy people,as all steps and corridors are made with SLIPPERY tile! The area this hotel is in is not an area to be running around in.. but it is nearby all the action a just a short cab ride away will get you there.
This hotel is NOT walking distance from the EL Centro Bus station.

Stayed at the Terracaribe for 2 nights on 1-2 nov 08. It was a stop over after our long flight before our 2 week holiday travelling around mexico. What can I say - really friendly staff, room was basic but had everything we needed and also was spotless and cleaned well during our stay, nice pool area with jacuzzi, breakfast buffet was really cheap and they took us to the bus station free of charge on our departure day.

Would definitely stay there again. About 15 minutes walk into downtown cancun and you get to see the real mexico on the way - not the false hotel zone!

I was visitng my friend in Cozumel, but my flight was leaving from Cancun. I decided to head to cancun the day before so that way i dont have to rush in the morning from cozumel to Cancun to catch the flight. I wanted to saty at a inexpensive hotel, but clean. This was a great option. I loved the place. I am actually going back in august and I am staying there for a week.

I will def. recommend this place to anyone.
