Weve just arrived back from two weeks in cancun and feel we have to write a review after the most amazing two weeks we had! Before we departed I had researched the hotel on this website and to be honest was a little apprehensive as to what the hotel we would be like. Let me just say...previous reviews do not give the hotel justice.
CHECK IN: We arrived at the hotel late afternoon and the room was ready for us straight away, we were quickly checked in and our bags taken to our room, our room was clean and spacious, with life saving air conditioning already on. we wasnt given a sea view, however, were not bothered as we came to relax, not complain and we also hadnt requested one. (3x couples we met on the holiday, returned to reception after check in, asked for a sea view and were moved with no hassle).
STAFF: All staff were extremely friendly. Even the windows cleaners and floor polishers will greet you and give you a smile as you walk past. They are constantly cleaning and the hotel is always immaculate. Angel as the beach bar (who cooks the burgers) is the most hardworking man ever! He is constantly rushed off his feet but always smiles and apologises if you have to wait for food. The maids were very efficient and our rooms were cleaned everyday, on numerous occasions we had the do not disturb sign on our door till about 3 (when they cleaned our floor at around 11) and they would still return later in the day to clean our room.
The only small problem we would say we had was with the staff at the bar. We found that the bar staff never really kept note of who was first in the queue for drinks and sometimes would serve 4 people who arrived after you, before you. We also found that if you spoke spanish you had to simply walk up to the bar shout out your order and would be served immediately, when others had to wait which we found unfair. However, this didnt really cause any trouble and you would get served in the end!
We found out whilst in the taxi one night that the minimum wage in Mexico is 48 pesos (£2.50) for eight hours work, which he said would most likely be the hotel staffs wage, so for the amount they are paid I would say they are excellent.
FOOD: The hotel has five resturants, 2 buffet,1 mexican, 1 seafood and 1 asian (pizza resturant is also open when it feels like it!). The two latter are absolutely brilliant and could pass as top resturants in london! All of the resturants are gorgeously designed and decorated and the staff are extremely effiecient and helpful. We never ate out once in the two weeks and still looked forward to every meal. I agree the buffet can get a tiny bit boring near the end of the holiday, but wouldnt any buffet?
I have also read you have to make reservations at 6am in the morning or you cant eat (which i think maybe a little dramatic). Whilst we were here, we had to make no reservations and were served neraly immediately at all the resturants (the seafood sometimes had a short wait, but it is right next to the bar so you just go and have free drinks!)
ENTERTAINMENT: We didnt really stay for any of the night entertainment as we tended to go into the party zone but I thinks it either Karaoke, Tropical Show or Tropical Band. During the day they hold volleyball, yoga, pool games etc to keep you occupied.
BEACH: Yes the beach is shallow and next to marina but it is still beautiful. The seaweed is raked out each morning and night so the water is very clear. There were always free chairs throughout the day so there was no need to put your towels on early in the morning.
LOCATION: The hotel is in a good location, around 5-10 mins from party zone. If you get a taxi make sure you haggle because they start off about twice as much as you would pay at home when petrol is only 40p a litre!
Walmart is a bus ride away and a small market is 2mins walk away.

Overall I would give this hotel 4.5/5. For the price is is excellent value and I would happily return next year or next week if I could! We met quite a few people whilst on this holiday and all of them would say the exact same!

First, we got a great deal, and had a great time. Honestly, if you cannot have fun in Cancun, there is something wrong with you. That being said, the hotel was not the best part of it by a long shot.

We got to the hotel around 3, when all the people that had arrived earlier and been told to come back at 3 showed up. It was controlled mayhem in the lobby, and I have to give credit to both the desk and bell staff for doing a good job. Bags arrived in minutes.

The lobby is hot and humid, with no air conditioning or fans. I have been to hotels in Mexico that have huge airy open air atriums, but this was not one of them, and the general feel was sweaty and stale. In fact, it felt this way in most of the common areas. There was not a nice place to relax and have a cool drink to meet people in an air conditioned, fanned or cooled setting.

The “Concierge” is really a time-share sales person, that is pushy and rude. The hotel allows her access to guest names and information, she is in a hotel uniform, and her desk is across from the front desk. She yelled for me every time I walked through the lobby, so I finally gave her 2 minutes to hear her pitch and told her no. She calls rooms too, to set up appointments for your ‘free gift’. I was not too happy that the hotel allows this, but it was a minor inconvenience. Note also that the hotel ‘staffs’ the towel desk with people whose job it is to sell excursions, so any time you ask for a towel, you get a sales pitch. Not a big deal.

The pool water is hot by mid-afternoon. It is clean, just not refreshing, at all. The opposite really.

The Beach is sandy, and there were plenty of chairs. The water is very calm, so by afternoon it is warm, and it is next to the lagoon inlet so it is not a crystal clear as you will find more to the south, and the swimming area is not more than 3 feet deep. So the plus is that there are no rocks, no waves, and very warm water. The minus is that it feels like a dirty greenish lake, and not at all like the ocean. I didn’t like it. If I had small children I might have felt differently.

The food was ok. Better than I paid for, not great. The usual complaints apply, hot food not hot, cold food not cold. All in all, it was decent however, with loads of choices. We did eat at the Oasis Cancun for lunch and dinner one day (See below) It was fantastic!

The service from the hostesses and servers, as well as cooks was superb. They really smiled a lot, were downright nice folks. Hard working, and really cared it seemed if we had a nice meal.

The bar service was horrible. All bars. It didn’t matter if the bar was busy or dead, if I ordered a mixed drink, frozen drink, soda or beer. The bartenders were simply not friendly. The people in the snack shack were pretty horrible too, maybe they were trained by the bar staff. Liquor was watered down as well, and served in 6 oz Dixie cups. Most places the bartenders are great, here I was really, really shocked at how miserable they were. I have to admit I only met about 4, I am sure there are some great ones as mentioned in the other reviews, but they must have been hiding when I came around ;

The hotel was clean. My room was clean. It was also a bit run down and in tough shape. About a Days Inn quality. Except the mattress! That was a pillow top sealy, and very comfortable. The rest of the room was really old, and it showed in the bathroom a lot. Grout and calking seemed to be holding the vanity together, barely. Water was hot. My toilet ran for my entire stay, but I never reported it, so I only have myself to blame. (Truth be told, I liked the sound). My remote did not work upon check in, and neither did 1 of the lamps. Both fixed within 48 hours, so that was good. We spent so little time in the room, the lack of a balcony was not a big deal. A good mattress, clean sheets, hot water and a flushing toilet was what I paid for and was exactly what I got.

It is too bad the management of the hotel is all about selling you additional stuff instead of letting you know about the stuff in the area you might enjoy. Example: T here was no posting of nightly activities, so I found the show by accident. The show was really great, better than I would have thought, but they did a lousy job of advertising it. Also, the ferry to Isla Mujeres is right next door, but no one knew the schedule-they were willing to sell me the excursions there however. Finally, the Oasis Cancun allows day passes, something I had to ask for, not something they went out of the way to tell me.

If you have booked, don’t sweat it, you will have a good time. I DEFINITELY would do the day pass to the Oasis Cancun. We went in the morning, the beach is rocky but the water is gorgeous, and we had ala carte Asian for lunch and Brazilian for dinner, the best dinner I have had in YEARS. No reservation needed, and they sat me in shorts and a tshirt. We left the hotel at 9, spent the day, then stopped and shopped at the flea market on the way home. One day we took the ferry to Islas Mujers ($17/person round trip, leaves at 9:30), rented a golf cart ($40), saw the turtle farm ($3), swam on the north beach, found a beach next to the state park and snorkeled there ($5), toured the island by cart twice, and took the 5:30 home. Great day.

The gift shop does not post prices, I was told because they have a lot of locals on day passes, so they have two sets of prices, one for tourists, one for locals. All I know is that Suntan Lotion was $30, and a regular bag of M&M's was $1.70. We got a good laugh out of that.

We got a great deal, so I have no complaints, but I would not stay again. Between the beach, the pool, the time share woman in the lobby, and the condition of the hotel, I think there are better places for me if I return to Cancun. All in all, it was still a great vacation.

Just returned from a two week holiday at the OASIS PALM BEACH HOTEL in Cancun. We only booked this trip the day before we went, it was such a good deal, too good to turn down. As we were both ready for a lazy break, we really did'nt expect too much. But how wrong were we. The hotel had just reopened the week before we got there, after the swine flu outbreak.
But let me tell you, it was fantastc. The staff are amazing, can't do enough for you. Angel at the burger bar never stops smiling, no matter what time of day it is.And he does some very good burgers too. Manuel ,the bartender at the beach bar also deserves a mention. He is quite funny and nothing seems be any trouble to him.
The grounds are beautifully kept and so is the inside of the hotel. The staff are forever cleaning and polishing.
The A LA CARTE seafood restaurant is excellent and not to be missed. The garlic shrimps are to die for.
The sushi bar come asian restaurant is also very good.We had never tried sushi until this holiday, but it was delicious.
The only complaint I would have, we did'nt have a balcony. But you can upgrade for an extra 40 dollars a night.
On the whole I would recommend this hotel to anyone, couples and families

well.....in a nutshell.....here goes! we shared facilities with next door oasis hotel the caribbean. this side though was worse here at the palm beach. wall to wall high schoolers or college grads celebrating. pool bar if you call it that...maybe 5 seats. people so drunk they were puking in pool..it was floating! disgusting. blasting 'young' music....rap....some raggae....some mexican. some young girls topless on floats in pool and on beach. necking all in pool! come on! believe it or not....best thing about the pool scene here was the food....good burgers...dogs and fish and shrimps! until they closed it for remodeling! there went the fish...shrimps for rest of stay! never moved it over to the burger stand. out of luck. the beach...OMG...putrid smell of sewage every day. or was it that black sea grass that covered the ocean water and the beaches? rocky too! the ocean water where it wasn't black was a dirty green. and it is only top of leg deep all the way out to the ropes where the boats come in! yeah...boats! they are right across from you! the dinner pirate ships go out next door! 3 of them!
restaurants....lines. some not open. one end of pool.....almost 6 ft deep....if you can't swim...you have the kiddie pool and the pukey bar pool left. not that there are 3 pools....all 3 connect into 1 pool. so you know that puke is all over. never again! i am amazed at the good reviews this place is getting. and....nothing wrong with the mexican people...they indeed are hard working nice folks but because this hotel is at the bottom of the hotel chain.....all the locals congregate here for the weekend or get a day pass.
if you like a pleasant 3/4 star hotel....this isn't for you. save your money or spend a little more and upgrade to something better. we've learned our lesson! no more oasis chains for us.
