Hopefully this will be a user friendly review, and in my opinion an open and honest account of our time at the hotel.
Originally we were due to stay at the Azul Fives, but as it was not ready we were transfered to this hotel. Would like to visit the Fives though.
The Grounds - Very neat and tidy in general but could do with a lick of paint here and there.
Lobby - Clean & clinicle but a little bit soleless.
The Pools - Many, many, many pools across the site, some had absolutely nobody in them or surrounding them due to low occupancy.
The Guests - Only about 40% occupancy at the time of our visit, but this enhanced our experience as you never had to wait for anything.
Mainly Americans, Canadians and Brits. Disappointingly very few other nationalities. One gripe would be the 'mob mentatlity' some American groups adopted and seemed to make it a priortity to shout scream and generally behave like they were kids.
The Food - Breakfast at Cocotal was fantastic. Lots of choice and my favourite meal of the day.
La Isla/ Kampai/ Cocotal/ Italian/ La Fondue/ Jo Jo's. Fuentes was closed which was a shame as it was the Mexican. We did not come to Mexico to eat Italian! Kampai was the best amd Jo Jo's the worst.
Drink - Dos Equis Beer & Dos Equis Amber on draught. Good beer but inconsistent in quality due to the nature of the bars having no keg cooling. Many premium brands such as Ketel One, Sky, Tanquery, Havana Club freely available.
The Rooms - We stayed in 5428 which was at the Southern End of the resort that had a good sea view. The room was large clean and spacious. Mine and my partners opinions differ on the room. I though it was a little tired with too much bulky dark wood and my partner thought it was perfect. There was numerous TV channels with a variety of news channels and films. In the fridge was warm beer (Tecate) and soft drinks. The bathroom had a seperate wet room shower & toilet.
The Staff - Very very nice and helpful. Very attentive and made a real difference verus other hotels we have stayed at.
Trips - Thomas Cook Bar Crawl in Cancun. Absolute waste of money, felt like a Club 18-30 event.
Delphnius Dolphins - Excellent - just do it!
Fat Cat boat trip - We were told by Thomas Cook that there'd be 16 on the boat so we were surprised when 40 got on. Still had a great time though.
Playa Del Carmen - Evening trip to the town. Little bit intimidating at first with vendors trying to get you into their shops but you soon get used to it. We had dinner at Sur, nowhere near as good as last time we had eaten there.
Cancun - Ruined by ugly concrete towers. Felt like Vegas by the sea. Could have been on the American mainland.
Overall, it would be very hard to find an absolute 5 star perfect all inclusive hotel, but this comes pretty close. Better then the Moon Palace, Bahia Principe, Iberostar Costa Dorada & Melia Rio De Oro.
Well worth paying the extra money to come here as you get what you pay for.
