In downtown Cancun, there are many places to stay near the bus station. Hotel Alux is my favorite. Medium-low price ($30. single), clean, friendly service. Somewhat old, but new mattresses and magnetic locks within the last year. TV and AC. The main drawback is the stairs, for this hotel goes up, not out. Location, convenience, price, and service make it my favorite in downtown Cancun.

I was looking for somewhere to stay for my last night in Mexico before a very early flight out of Cancun the following morning. I contacted several small hotels in downtown Cancun, the Alux was the only one to respond, and I made my reservation. Their correspondence was always quick and businesslike.

I was quite happy with the hotel - it is far from being the Four Seasons, but for the price it is very acceptable - rooms are nothing very exciting, but mine was spotlessly clean, with amazingly crisp white sheets on the bed, tiled floors, and clean if tired looking bathroom. For me, the location was great, right in the middle of everything in downtown Cancun. If you want to be right on the beach of course, this is not your place. To mix with the locals in the downtown area however, it is perfect. I would stay here again.

I am rating the hotel as 'above average' based on the cleanliness and the value for money it offers.

I was looking for an inexpensive hotel near the bus station in downtown Cancun and stayed here. It is so-so. The room was clean but a bit dreary but it was a good budget choice. I just wanted a place near the bus station for my last two nights in Mexico. It was comfortable and clean but pretty basic. My only real complaint would be that although the room was air condtioned there were gaps between the window/window frame, and around the air condtioning unit where mosquitoes could enter.

Stayed at Alux hotel in playa del carmen for one night. Found this place on the internet and for 400 pesos per night we booked for our first night. This is a great hotel only one block from 12th st and 5th ave. so if you want to be close to the best club/bar/lounges, this is the place to stay. We stayed on the 2nd floor single bed kitchenette AC cable TV room, no view...but it was really nice, mexican furniture...great bathroom. Sorry i did not take any pictures, but you can do a google search for alux hotel. address for this hotel is 14th st between 10th and 15th ave. It´s a wonderfull clean hacienda style hotel at a great price..I do recommend it.

“Cheap, but not the greatest”

Hotel Alux (A-loosh) is a clean, but unattractive place. It's old, has tiny lobby, no courtyard or common areas, bare light bulbs in all room ceiling fixtures. This hotel is in the town of Cancun, not the Hotel Zone strip. It is conveniently located 2 blocks off of the main street, Avenida Tulum. It is a block from the modern new bus station. There are lots of restaurants and Internet cafes nearby. We stayed here 3/26/07 for 330 Pesos including tax. They don't take credit cards. Breakfast is not included. Easy reservation form on their website. Got an email reply the next day. No deposit required to hold room, but call them if you will arrive after your stated arrival time. There was no Internet at hotel, but Internet cafes nearby on the same block. There is no elevator, and no rooms on the first floor. They do not offer parking. We had to park on the street
- not recommended in Mexico. Room had red tile floor, good A/C, phone, small TV, but no room safe box. We would not stay here again.
Would probably go with our second choice, Hotel El Rey del Caribe for $74, which is nearby and has off-street parking and a courtyard.
Hotel was so dismal, I have no photos to submit.
