We were finishing travels through the Yucatan peninsula and just wanted someplace decent and convenient for the last two nights. That gave us one day to see Cancun which was more than enough for us. The Alux is only a block away from the main bus station which made it easy to get to the hotel and easy to get the bus the last morning to get to the airport and also easy to catch the bus that went to the ritzy hotel zone for our last day look around at how other folks enjoy vacations.
The Alux was clean enough and comfort was OK. The bed was good. Everything in the bathroom worked. They had clean towels for our second night and made the bed up. It would have been nice to have a real window in the room (I did notice when walking around that the rooms with two beds might have had a window) and the lack of that made it feel a bit confining. Our room only had two narrow slits to see through had we been two meters tall (6'7"). But with only the one bed in the room it was cheaper. I think we paid 350 pesos a night which was under $30. Two beds would have made the price about $5 more a night. The room also had a tv so we watched a few Mexican music videos.
They also had breakfast but it was perhaps the smallest breakfast possible. It included weak orange drink, a basket of small rolls that had no flavor, and very weak coffee. At least they offered pats of butter and jam. There was a very nice large grocery store about two blocks away so we supplemented our breakfast with some yogurt and fruit.
The lobby was very small but there was one computer for guests. I worked one of our two days there.
After we checked in our first afternoon we had a good walk around the "downtown" of Cancun. There were many other inexpensive looking hotels and hostels in the area. Perhaps there were others that were better or cheaper. The Alux was OK and suited our needs.

For a mere 410 pesos ($20 each for a 2-double bed room), Hotel Alux was an amazing deal. We booked it because it is one block from the bus station and we had to be on a 4:30 a.m. shuttle to the airport the next morning.

Our room (#408) at Hotel Alux was basic but was very clean, had a great bathroom, was air-conditioned and, while all of the other budget hotels in the area had doubled their prices for Christmas, was worth every peso.

Yes, it's in downtown Cancun so it's not silent and it is definitely no-frills for those expecting anything more than a place to wash up and rest their heads.

But for the budget-conscious traveler who won't be spending much time in their room, but maybe doing daytrips in the area (again, that hub-bus-station is around the corner), this would be a great option for an entire stay – the local bus to the beaches is 65 pesos. I would stay here again.

My only warning would be that for those with mobility issues, the hotel has stairs only and our room was on the 4th floor.

Well, what can you expect for $35? I suppose the room was clean enough even though it gives you that 'dirty' feeling. The A/C was loud which I loved because it drowned out the outside noise while we slept. We had a TV and there was even a computer that offered free internet near the lobby which was nice.

It was very close to the bus station, and since we had to leave at 4:30 to get to the airport, this place was perfect. There are also several convenience stores and places to eat nearby.

just as i expected from other reviewers, this was a basic, convienent place to stay by the bus station. nothing special, but it did serve our purpose. my family and i (4 adults) stayed there as a "layover" from cozumel to isla holbox. reservation was quick and easy via email. appreciated the "honor" system of them holding your reservation without deposit until the designated arrival time (which you can designate yourself, arriving anytime up to 6pm). we didn't spend much time in our room, so it was okay. bathroom was reasonably clean. try out "don javier" eatery a few blocks away if you go - good, cheap mexican food (sopes, salbutes, empanadas, etc) and huge bottles of fresh squeezed delicious juices - pina colada, was our favorite.

Stayed here again for one night this week, for the second time. Basically this confirmed my previous experience, that this is a tired looking yet clean and comfortable property, offering good value in a convenient downtown location. Once again the hotel responded promptly and clearly to my emails, and provided what they advertise.
