We were finishing travels through the Yucatan peninsula and just wanted someplace decent and convenient for the last two nights. That gave us one day to see Cancun which was more than enough for us. The Alux is only a block away from the main bus station which made it easy to get to the hotel and easy to get the bus the last morning to get to the airport and also easy to catch the bus that went to the ritzy hotel zone for our last day look around at how other folks enjoy vacations.
The Alux was clean enough and comfort was OK. The bed was good. Everything in the bathroom worked. They had clean towels for our second night and made the bed up. It would have been nice to have a real window in the room (I did notice when walking around that the rooms with two beds might have had a window) and the lack of that made it feel a bit confining. Our room only had two narrow slits to see through had we been two meters tall (6'7"). But with only the one bed in the room it was cheaper. I think we paid 350 pesos a night which was under $30. Two beds would have made the price about $5 more a night. The room also had a tv so we watched a few Mexican music videos.
They also had breakfast but it was perhaps the smallest breakfast possible. It included weak orange drink, a basket of small rolls that had no flavor, and very weak coffee. At least they offered pats of butter and jam. There was a very nice large grocery store about two blocks away so we supplemented our breakfast with some yogurt and fruit.
The lobby was very small but there was one computer for guests. I worked one of our two days there.
After we checked in our first afternoon we had a good walk around the "downtown" of Cancun. There were many other inexpensive looking hotels and hostels in the area. Perhaps there were others that were better or cheaper. The Alux was OK and suited our needs.
