This was definitely one of my best hotel experiences ever. As college students studying in Merida, my friends and I didn't have that much money to spend, but managed to get 3 days/2 nights all inclusive for 1300 pesos per person. Check-in was a breeze (free champagne!) and we didn't have to wear those annoying bracelets that a lot of all-inclusive places make you wear. The hotel itself is gorgeous - white paint/curtains with red accents (red tiles, etc). Our room was huge - maybe it's just because I've never stayed in a really nice hotel before, but the bathroom was nice and big, the room was breezy and incredibly spacious, and the bed/pillows were beyond comfortable - I slept better than I have in weeks. They also gave us petit fours and chocolates! The pool and beach were beautiful, I loved how there were plenty of shady spots on both the beach and by the pool. Although a previous commentator mentioned that they couldn't swim because there were red flags on the beach, that's completely untrue - we had red flags every day but were allowed to swim. Although they didn't plan activities for us - someone also complained about that - I'm honestly not a fan of resorts that try to give you a schedule of activities - that's a little too summer camp-esque for me. There's a beach volleyball setup on the neighboring hotel's beach, and my friends and I easily started a nice pick-up game :) All of the staff were super wonderful, especially the pool bartender (awesome drinks, great food) and the main hotel bartender - it was my 24th birthday when we went and we had a great time celebrating at the hotel bar before heading out to Coco Bongo. As for the restaurant food - although there's "only" one restaurant, they have multiple menus, impeccable service, and great food. Maybe we were just spoiled by the fact that we've been living outside the US for the past 3 weeks, but we couldn't get enough of the food and service - I'm not sure about the rest of Mexico, but in Merida you're lucky to get 1/10th the service that they have at the Bel Air.
There were only a few things I wish I'd known earlier, but they weren't necessary for an amazing time - it's a good idea to go down to the pool area super early to reserve a shaded area, I had no idea that they'd go so fast. Although there are plenty to go around, the really cool nest-looking ones go first. The bellhop at the hotel usually has sweet deals that let you get into clubs for cheaper - we got free cover into Dady'O one night and half off entrance with open bar at Coco Bongo the next night. And when the bellhop gets you a van/taxi to the airport or bus depot on your last day, be sure to negotiate a price before he calls - we ended up getting a huge fan for all 6 of us for 200 pesos.
Anyways, we had an amazing, amazing time here and I'll be sure to come back in the future - the Bel Air made our weekend in Cancun unforgettable.
