Ray and crew were awesome w/the guests on the horses. We did the horses and waverunner options. Highly recommend the waverunner option. From the research we did, this was by far the best deal on time w/waverunner and price...and the "leader" or whatever the guy who rides in front is called was awesome! We were looking for adventure when we went to the ranch and we got it. Was nice alternative to the slow-paced low intensity options like Isla Mujeres.

We just got back from our vacation, which included a horseback riding trip at Loma Bonita Ranch. We had an amazing time. We were picked up at the Kulkulcan Plaza and taken to the ranch in a bus where we were met by our guide, Ray. We waited for the rest of our group to arrive (there were about 25 people in our group, which I thought was a lot for two guides, but it went very smoothly). After explaining what was going to happen, we were brought over to the corral where everyone was assigned a horse according to experience. Be honest when doing this ... some of the horses for the experienced riders are a bit rambunctious ... my horse almost got kicked by another horse shortly after I got on and I had to hold on pretty tightly so I wouldn't fall off. After everyone was settled in their saddles, we headed out to the trail. Ray and another guide made sure everyone was doing ok during the whole ride there. They stopped the group before we got to the beach and explained again that the horses do like to roll when they hit the sand, as it cools them off. We made our way to the beach and only two horses decided they wanted to roll. Mine was one of them. It was no big deal to hop off. They come right over and help you back on.

After we arrived at the corral and the horses were settled on the beach they explained that not all the horses like the water and that they do make a lot of noise when they're in the water. Whoever wanted to ride in the water was able to do so. We went in two separate groups so we could take pictures, but were able to ride the same horse. Being in the water with the horse was amazing. Much harder to hold on than I thought, but well worth the effort. They had soda, beer, water and chips for sale on the beach. After everyone had finished their swim with the horses we rode back to the ranch. Once there, they had lunch which consisted of quesidillas, beans, rice and soda. Drinks and water were available for purchase. They also have a little gift shop if you might be interested in purchasing a gift or shirt or something. Lockers are available for $1.00 and they do have a pool if you decide you'd like to take a swim and cool off.

I would recommend this trip and may make it a yearly adventure. I would suggest wearing sneakers rather than flip flops ... they're much more stable in the event you need to jump off a horse who wants to roll in the sand.

Well worth this trip! Good job Loma Bonita!

Unsafe ATV Ride - Don't Recommend

This could have been a really fun tour. The ATV trail was fun. However, the shared ride on the ATV was on a one person ATV - first unsafe thing. I got blistors from holding on to the rear luggage rack and a bruise on my butt from the rack too. Beside that we were having a fun time. Not all of the riders had the same experience level and the brakes do not work well, so you had to dodge the ATV in front of you if they stopped too quickly. The worst experience of all was the accident that the tour guide deliberately caused us to have. We will admit that one of the rules was no passing, which is a hard thing to do when you can't brake well. We were riding at a good clip along the beach directly behind the guide when he looked back and slammed on his brakes with disregard to the required hand signals. We slammed into his ATV and my new husband (did I mention we were on our honeymoon) went over the handlebars and onto the guide. I went on top of my husband. After climbing off, the guide blamed us and claimed my husband was drunk even through we purposely had not drank any alcohol all day so we could safely ride the ATVs. After a short yelling match our ATV was restarted and we along with several others that had been passing and were experienced riders were led back to the start. That was the end of our ride approximately 30-45 minutes short. On the ride back the guide once again slowed down too quickly and the person following him bumped into him. We paid $100 for both of us to ride a one person ATV which was in disrepair. The guides have a diregard for your life. I would not recommend going to Rancho Loma Bonita.....try some other ATV tour!

My wife wanted to ride a horse in the ocean, and this place looked like a great spot. It was! I hadn't ridden a horse in 30 years and my last experience was not a good one (hence the 30 year gap in riding experiences). The staff was great - they have a variety of horses and work to pair you with a horse that suits your temperament. I got Pepe... he was gentle horse. We got along. They spend a few minutes on instructions and then it's off down a trail to the ocean. It gets hot! We had no casualties, everyone had a good time - lunch was decent and then we left. You can ride ATV,s Jet Skis or go snorkeling - we rode horses. I'd do it again, too.

One young girl was terrified and the guide spent a few minutes talking to her and convinced her to try and get on the horse. He was really good! He encouraged her to give it a try and she did. The kid ended up having a blast!

Of all the activities we engaged in while in Cancun, our evening ride was the most enjoyable and memorable. We were made to feel like one of the "ranch" family and were treated to an experience worth far more than the cost of our trip. The horse ride itself lasted about an hour ( each way) and the Mexican dinner on the beach was excellent.
A special thanks to our guide ,Fernado, who made our evening one to cherish for a lifetime.
