My husband and I stayed at this hotel for 4 nights. The hotel room was the worst I have seen. Bathroom: Stained and shredded curtains. - Holes in the wash cloths and towels. The room had a bug problem that was not addressed after reporting it to the front desk. Each day we found sawdust from the bugs/termites in the wooden closet on our clothing. A/C could work only with a door key in the unit. The front door dragged each time it was open. The front desk issued only one key. No ice machines on the property. Ice could only be retrieved from the bar, which closed at 11 pm. Shame on you if you needed ice after 11 pm. Hotel is in a residential area, with broken sidewalks.
The continental breakfast wasn't much to shout about, and was controlled by the staff in terms of portion control. HOTWIRE three (3) star rating was deceiving and it was the reason why I bidded on this property. We were very disappointed and told HOTWIRE to consider removing this property for a choice. Most importantly as a three star. This property barely made a 1/2 star rating.

this place was perfectly fine. The reviews are a little all over the place, so we were nervous. but I was pleasantly surprised. in high season it was 28 dollars a night, including breakfast (cereal, coffee, and toast/muffins/baked goods) the front desk people were nice and tried really hard, the room was clean (string smell of cleaning products) we had two big comfortable beds and even cable TV. very close to a bus stop, 6 pesos to get to the beaches, the buses come every 2 seconds. and close to downtown Cancun if you want to get out of the beach zone. worst part was the woman in the breakfast hut, she was mean and nasty and if you didn't tip her 10 dollars American she acted like you were inconveniencing her. best part was that the hotel gave us bottles of water every other day.

This was my worst hotel experience ever. I don't even know where to begin.

First of all, the hotel didn't have our reservation from Hotwire and it took about 20 minutes of trying to talk to the hotel staff with broken english to explain to them that we booked a room.

The room was completely disgusting. We walked into the a humid room and turned on the a/c which sounded like a huge truck. The mattress was uncomfortable and was covered in a plastic sheet which made moving around in bed noisy and obnoxious. We were woken up at 730 in the morning by construction. I don't know why anyone would put guest in a room next to noisy construction when you have a half empty hotel.

Breakfast was digusting. As I was getting coffee, I had to go through 3 cups with crumbs on it to finally find a clean cup, only to find the cup of coffee I finally poured had an ant crawling on it.

We were unknowingly booked into this hotel through hotwire. Anybody with a choice in the matter I would warn to stay FAR FAR away from this hotel.

I was a little frightened by the uneven reviews of this hotel and the rock-bottom price for our 5-night stay in Cancun, but was pleasantly surprised by the Hotel Sotavento (and Yacht Club).

We had three rooms between six of us, and each of them was totally fine. Sure, the beds were a little hard, the AC loud, and the TV controls a little testy, but the sheets and towels were clean, the hotel restaurant reasonably priced, and the shower pressure and temperature were awesome (better than my shower at home!).

The location was also perfect-- far enough away from the crazy strip of Hooters, Coco Bongo, and Senor Frog's, close to the city, directly across the street from the ferry to Isla Mujeres. I would much prefer to stay in a place like this than a chintzy all-inclusive resort, actually. We had a great vacation that totally stayed within my (meager) grad student budget. I would definitely recommend.

  • Liked — the value, plus the quiet
  • Disliked — the beds were a little hard...

Me and my Girlfriend (Both 28), stayed at this hotel for one night only. The room was clean, but smelled really bad and the aircon was too noisy.

Breakfast buffet was disgusting and not worth trying.
