Green 16 appears to be split into two very distinct parts - the hostel and the hotel - which I wasn't really that clear on when I made the booking. Under no circumstances would I recommend anyone to stay in the hostel which is basically any of the dorms or single room with shared bathroom.
Of course I wasnt expecting much given the price I paid, but upon arrival I was shown to a choice of two single rooms, both without locks (therefore no security) and generally quite grim. When I went to the showers there was no light so you were walking around in virtually complete darkness (actually quite eerie!) and the hot water wasn't working. The toilets were blocked and you can imagine the smell this created when people had carried on using them regardlessly. The next day and for the following week there was no water at all. The staff were giving the guests access to the private rooms for use of the ensuite showers and promised the issue would be resolved the following day but this never happened in the six days I was there. The hostel looked like it needed so much work done on it but the management didnt care enough to do anything about it.
I made my mind up quite quickly that I would stay the one night and leave the next morning. Only for the fact that I met some really cool people who were staying in the dorms did I eventually decide to stomach it for the 3 days I had booked (I was hardly ever there anyway) before moving on somewhere else.
Before checking out I made my feelings to the manager clear as I had been unable to get hold of him prior to this. I politely told him that I would have considered staying longer had it not been for the awful facilities and the service that I had received was just unacceptable. With that, and quite surprisingly, he said that he was going to offer me three nights in one of the private ensuite rooms for freewhich I of course accepted. My experience here was different altogether. The bathroom/shower had a constant supply of hot/cold water, the room was well maintained, secure and came with both satellite TV and air conditioning. Had I known how much better these rooms were I would have happily paid the extra few pounds per night for them.
Green 16 is in a really nice location, in close proximity to the hub of the hotel zone/beaches and a short bus ride away from downtown. If you do stay here though avoid the hostel and go for one of the private ensuite rooms.
