This hotel was not the place to stay. It is sold as a family resort - but has huge rocks on the beach, the layout is terrible - everything is far apart - and the wait for the elevator is approximately 10 minutes each time you have to use it. The pools were too cold - the beach was non-usable. The food was not good - we had steak we couldn't cut through. The one good place to eat was the Sushi bar. I will never stay here again... there are plenty of great places to stay in Cancun - the Riu hotels are all nice and some reasonable. This place also said NO Spring Breakers - there were kids partying all over the hotel - and my girls learned some new words while riding in the elevators with some of them, while finding others passed out on benches in the hotel in the mornings.

  • Liked — People in Mexico are very hard working people - all were helpful and nice.
  • Disliked — Food, Elevator situation, layout, beach.

We arrived at the hotel at about 2pm on March 16th. There were 3 couples ahead of us, so we had to wait. Waiting with a tired 2 year old isnt fun either. You would think they would have more than one person at the check in with a line of people/couples/families 10 deep, but whatev! Anyway, the 3 couples ahead of us were all told that they were getting sent to the Golden Parnassus. They all basically said fine and I got to the counter about 45 minutes later. I checked in wondering what they were going to do with us since we had our daughter with us. We got a room right away. Yep, if you have kids, you automatically stay here, otherwise you get "bumped". Come to find out from our travel rep onsite, they aren't overbooked. They just want to fill up the Golden Parnassus with couples so they take them down there. If they complain enough, they get sent back to the Great. So my first and foremost advice is that if you are going to Mexico without kids, book a different hotel group. You will save yourself a lot of hassle. We got to our room and it was on the "even numbered" side of the hotel. I should have asked right there for a different room since I knew about the Hilton side being noisy, but the baby was tired and hungry as was my husband and myself. So we just kept the room. The one thing that I did ask for was a crib, even emailed about it and had the travel rep put it in the computer before we got there. They told me they didn't have any! WTF???? It's on the website!! Anyway, later on that eveing, I had my husband call down and ask about them. 10 minutes later they were at our door with the pack-n-play! So if you need one, call about it, don't ask the front desk. The room itself smelled musty at first. I'm not sure if we just got used to it over the next few days or what, but it didn't smell after the first day. The room was clean, balcony was very nice for a view, but the air conditioners for the Hilton were super noisy, so we never stayed out there long. We had a king bed and a futon. I think all rooms had the futons too. The bathroom was nice as well, all very clean. I like the fact that the toilet is in a water closet. Housekeeping didn't come through until late afternoon. Make sure to push the Clean my room button anytime you are out of the room in the case they come by and see it sooner! They did a good job, left extra towels and water each time. We also left $2 or $3 tips everyday. Housekeeping works very hard there. Actually, anyone in a cleaning mode there works very hard. Housekeeping, bus boys, etc. always seemed to be doing something. They really tried to please you! The food at the buffet was good, not gourmet, but good for our family. There is a lot of kid-friendly food (fresh fruits, chicken strips, fish strips, pasta bar, omlette bar in the mornings, fruit smoothies, quesadillas, tacos, etc. All very fresh!) The mexican food was our favorite. The tortillas are wonderful! My husband and I loved the fajitas, enchiladas, quesadillas and empanadas. The fish was really good too at the seafood bar. I saw a lot of people at the sushi bar. We don't like sushi, but it must have been good since everyone was eating it! We always ate at the buffet. I was just easier with a child. We tried eating at the Manhattan Deli restaurant, but we waited for about 10 minutes for someone to acknowledge us and no one ever did. And this was after being seated by the host! So we just left and never went back. I had read the reviews that the restaurants weren't good anyway and to go off the resort if you wanted something different. BUT.........one of my family's favorite part of this hotel was La Creperie, it was a dessert station near the lobby of the hotel. They were open from 4-11pm and served ice cream in cones, waffle bowls, cups and these fabulous waffle boats! The waffle boats were freshly made waffles with your choice of ice cream. You could get anything with any topping, and they probably had 15 toppings to choose from. They also had crepes. My husband had the crepes, and he said they were ok. The waffle boats were better. We made our nightly routine of eating dinner and then taking our daughter to the kids disco to let her run around and dance. It was empty most nights except for one when they had a kids disco activity there which was really fun for our daughter. Anyway, after dancing, we went to the "ice cream store" and then sat in the lobby to eat it. It was really nice with the breeze coming through there. Speaking of breezes, the walkways to the pools/beach were the worst wind-tunnels I have ever experienced! It was like walking in a hurricane without the rain! The pools were nice though. The pool-area was crowded, but not the pools themselves. We always got a chair though, without problems. The beach was ok. It washed away the second day we were there. The boulders also washed up that day. The water was very rough, no one could go very far into the water. Both my husband and I got our butts kicked by a wave and we decided that was enough. This hotel also has a very very nice kids area. It is at the other end of the hotel which is a long walk from the pool/beach. But the staff at the baby club/kids club were tremendous. If they were in the states, I would have no problem with them being my child care providers. Everything is super clean and organized. Also very secure. You had to sign in and sign the kids up with their passports as ID. There was a window there to talk to them through, but to get in they had to unlatch the door from the other side. It always seemed like the kids were having a great time. The baby club was great. We didn't really leave our daughter there since we wanted to spend family time together on vacation, but we took her down there to play. They have a nice mat area with big mats they can climb over and slide down, plus a ball pit. They have a nap area set up with pack-n-plays for naptime, plus a tv for movies, books, stereo for music, etc. Part was air conditioned and part wasn't. It was really nice down there though, even the unairconditioned areas. I think thats all. All-in-all, we would definately return to this resort. We had a great time and they are wonderful with the kids! If you want a family resort, this is a really nice one. If you want to go on a quiet vacation in a fancy room with fancy food, this isn't the place for you! Spend the money and go to Dreams or Sandals or the like. If there is anything you would like to know, feel free to ask!

  • Liked — Baby Club, Location near malls/restaurants, Clean, Friendly staff
  • Disliked — Housekeeping very slow, tiny drinking cups!!, loud air conditioners at Hilton all night

When we arrived we were told our room was ready, when they took us to our room we inserted our key only to find out the room was occupied. They then told us it would be an hour which turned into two and ended up being three. We were told they were overbooked. Our remote control did not work. There is a "Hospitality Room" where you can change and hang out at the beach until your room is ready but they didn't tell us that, we accidentally found it. We requested a wake up call because we had booked Deep Sea fishing for a 6:30 am departure, the call was late causing us to miss breakfast. No breakfast is served between 6:00 am and 7:00 am. If you want a spot at the pool you better reserve your spot by 7:30 am. Many placed belongings on chairs to save them and do not return until after 10:00 am. The all - inclusive drinks are served in 6 oz. reusable plastic cups. We were woken up throughout the night due to echoing voices. We did get lucky and get an ocean view. Our bathroom in our room reminded me of a Truck Stop bathroom and we would not sit on the chairs/futon in our room due to being stain covered. We went to an Elvis Comedy show in the hotel which consisted of bad wigs and poor dancing, we left half way through but young kids in the hotel, and there were a lot, loved it.
We often left the resort for better food and fun which was very expensive. The Bell Boys were extremely nice and helpful. Overall we had fun and we learned to laugh at the "Resort" and to lower our expectations. Wouldn't recommend it and won't go back.

  • Liked — The Rep from Vacation Express and Bell Boys were nice and helpful
  • Disliked — Not much else

My husband and 2 kids age 15 & 17 were at the Great Parnassus Mar 8 -15th. We had a Great time and wonder where all the negative reviews are coming from??

Checkin: We arrived around noon, knowing that our room would not be available until 3. Thats ok because we always pack a suit in our carry on. They have a nice hospitatlity room that you can change in, and the bellman watches your luggage.
Monica was very sweet and told us she could give us a room right away, but she wanted us to wait to get a "really nice" room at 3. We waited and were not disappointed. She gave us our remote, safe key, and wrist bands right away. We headed to the pool and let our vacation begin!

Room:
We stayed in the Family room, it was huge! king bed and bunk beds. These are some of the best beds we have slept in, in Mexico. The room was cleaned to perfection every day - and I am very picky. $2 tip to the maid everyday, and they would leave extra waters... small price to pay.

Pool area:
We usually hung around the pool because we like to be involved in the activities... kids and husband had a great time playing
Basketball, volleyball, etc. The activitiy guys work their butts off trying to get everyone involved and they do a awesome job!!
There were kids in the pools, but it is a "family resort" I think some people forget that. If you want quiet - go to an adults only resort. There were some Spring Breakers, but they were well behaved for the most part, no worse than some of the adults!

Food:
I can honestly say we did not have a bad meal. My boys loved the buffet the best. Omlets to order everyday! lots of fresh fruit and the snack bar by the pool had burgers, fries, hotdogs, chicken fingers - If you went hungry, its your own fault. They have alot of variety to choose from. The ice cream shop was a favorite too!

Beach:
The beach did have alot of rocks, but no more or less than other resort. We walk up and down the beach everyday and there were rocks on all along the strip not just the Parnassus.
This is the norm since the hurricane.

We like a clean resort, with decent food, good service and a good deal! The Great Parnassus was all of that and then some. I would rate this 3-1/2* resort, and I would recommend it to anyone that I know. We have been traveling to Mexico for about 10 years now and I would not say that about some of the other resorts we have stayed at.

Feel free to email with any questions.

I had already booked this hotel before reading the previous reviews and was very worried after reading them. However, my worries ended the minute I arrived at this wonderful hotel. I have to say I am very particular when it comes to hotels. We have 2 teenage kids (17 & 14) and then there is my husband and I. I will break this review into sections to make it easier to follow:

Lobby--absolutely wonderful. It is filled with big loveseat style chairs and it is all open and has a great breeze that flows through it. It also has a large wall that has water flowing so the sounds are so relaxing. I highly recommend spending some time relaxing in the lobby.

Restaurants--The key to the restaurants is "GO EARLY & TIP WELL!!!" The steak house is Big Ben's and it is great. We actually ate there 2 different times and each one of us ordered 2 entrees--steak is great and the shrimp is great. There is also a great italian restaurant. Anything you pick will be great! I saved the best to last--the Japanese Sushi House. I do not like oriental food but fell in love with this place. The appetizer was incredible and the entrees were out of this world. Probably the best beef tenderloin I have ever eaten.

Rooms--We stayed in one of the family rooms and it had a nice king size bed in one room and then a seperate area for the kids with bunk beds and a trundle bed. It gave everyone their own space--very good! To be honest the only problem with the room was there was not a refrigerator in this type of room and the shower was very narrow. The room was very clean. Shower--great water pressure!!! The most important thing to know is to tip your housekeeper. If you give her a couple bucks she will keep you fully stocked with water and will give you the best towels. (there are good towels and there are great towels--ask for the big soft ones--you will love them!) Also--maybe bring along house slippers, the floor is all tile.

Pool--WOW!!!!! It is absolutely gorgeous! Here is the tip for the pool--trade in towels before 6:00 p.m. and then you will have clean towels for the next morning to put on your chairs to save them. Also, get down there by 7:30 a.m. to get the best chairs around the pool. If you are a little later, no big deal, you will just be in the second row instead of right on the edge. Also, look for Eli--he is one of the activity directors--he is awesome! He really gets into his job. They have volleyball, basketball, water polo and tons of other great pool activities. There is also a seperate pool on the 1st or 2nd floor-can't remember for sure, that is for the kids. It has water slides that everyone can do. We were very fortunate and got to them when no one else was there and all of us did them about 100 times! Very fun!!!

Nightlife--Senor Frogs is a must! Hard Rock is great--sit outside the view is incredible. Flea markets are fun, just don't pay the full price, they will always come down! The hotel has nightly shows--definately go to some of them--very worthwhile!

Spa--if you do nothing else in this hotel--get a massage! All I can say is WOW! WOW! WOW!

Overall my best advice is to tip the staff and you will never wait for drinks, never wait in line for dinner and will always be treated great. The staff was very accommodating and always eager to talk and laugh!

Great trip--would definately go back and would recommend to anyone and everyone!!!!
