First, let me start by saying that while I'm typing this review, I'm still recoving from some sort of bacterial intenstinal nightmare. This place is an absolute joke! I spent my last two days holed up in my room because I was so sick. I've read most of the the reviews within the past several months of this resort and tried to keep an open mind. I knew that I would run into a few problems, as most of the other people had. I begin to wonder how dependable this website is for reviews. I truly do not understand how anyone could say that this is not a cheap, budget resort. The food was absolutely disgusting. It made your $9.99 local buffet look like fine dining. Very little of anything cooked was fresh. Most not even edible.

The rooms looked fine, as I expected. Nothing great, but nice. Couple of problems though. We had to shove a towel under the door at night to try to drown out some of the noise coming from the guests below.. Can anyone tell me what those huge "bang" noises were in the middle of the night...every night?!?! Also, my wife thought it would be fun to put my 2 year old in the shower with her and she allowed a little water to be filled in the tub. Guess what...it was freakin' brown water!! Me and my family showered in brown water for a solid week AND so did everyone of you who have gone to Great Parnassus and same to you for those who plan on going. There's a sign on the bathroom wall letting you know it's not safe to drink the water. Little did I know it was really even that safe to bathe in it.

Beware

My husbanc and I had visited Cancun in 2008 and stayed at another hotel. We wanted to bring our sons to Cancun because we wanted to have a great family vacation since they are getting older (boys 16 &14). We could have not picked a better hotel than Great Parnassus Resort. There were so many activities that all of us, especially the kids enjoyed. I can't say enough about how friendly and fun the Great Entertainment staff was. There were a lot of water and beach activities that the boys looked forward to every day and did not want to miss. The entertainment staff was wonderful and most of them learned the kids names fast. We also went jet skiing, parasailing, and went on the Jungle Tour(motor boats & snorkeling). The entire family had a blast. There was night entertainment too for the entire family. The staff included the visitors in some of their entertainment at night. Multiple places to eat. Best was Big Ben and the food by the pool. Last few nights, we found ourselves ordering room service - the food from the room service menu was very good. Rooms were clean, service great, entertainment (especially for active teen-agers excellent). There was a little kids pool area that we saw that would be fun for little kids. Down side was the food wasn't top notch. The guy at the inside the pool bar wasn't friendly and some times mean to us(especially the boys - not wanting to wait on them). The boys enjoyed the free range of getting food and drinks when ever they wanted(just like home). I learned that "ocean view" means that somewhere on the balcony you can see the lagoon or ocean(or both)...but looking straight ahead we viewed a field between our hotel and the hotel next to us. Ask for ocean "front". We had a "family suite" - extremely large room with 2 double beds and a bunk bed with a trendle bed.....is GREAT for a family of 4-6. Bathrooms large and plenty of room for storage and clothes. We would definately recommend this hotel for any family.....we would love to go back.

My husband, my two boys (6 and 9) and I just returned from Cancun where we stayed 6 nights at this hotel. We haven´t seen anyone sick and we feel very safe. We had a great room with a big jacuzzi on the balcony. The staff, were very friendly. The restaurants are good, not great, but good value for what we pay. Our kids loved the kids club!... Also, We used the babysitter service ($15 p. hour) ...she was very good with the kids.
the only complaint that I have is that we were talked into doing the timeshare "90 min" presentation just to get $ 50 and a gift. We were told is was just going to be over breakfast and very quick. Sure... it took well over 2 hours ..... =-(
The GP is beautiful, the food is better than you'd expect considering that it's an AlI Inclusive,, the service was great and we'd go back.

We just returned from 7 days at the Great Parnassus and the only way to describe our vacation was "Perfect". We were like everyone else who had booked earlier in the year for a Mexican vacation-Nervous. I really feel sorry for the Mexican people, they really have suffered financially because of the media hype over the swine flu. But as the previous post reported, there was absolutely nothing to worry about here. Everywhere you looked, someone was cleaning something. Every single employee went above and beyond the typical "good customer service" that you expect in a resort. I took $100 in dollar bills and gave out every single one of them as tips and wished I had brought more to give. The money exchange thing was the only thing I didn't like about the whole trip. Very confusing trying to figure out what you are really paying for something-but I WAS in MEXICO after all so I had to get over it. The rooms were very large and maid service was on time and very efficient every day. We did have a problem with the toilet one day, but they had it straightened out very quickly. We ate at every restaurant there at least once. All were very good. The Manhattan the last day was a little slow getting our food to us. We were a little anxious to get going that night because we didn't want to miss the show. The entertainment staff-manned by Carlos and his team(Cheko, Eddie, Roberto, Johnny, Erick, Angie, Brenda and Cassie) were fantastic! We went to the show our first night there and was in love with this group of young people by the time we left. You could tell they love what they do. It was their job to make sure everyone was entertained every hour of the day. I traveled with 4 teenage girls and they never were bored one time. When it came time to leave on the last morning I think they would have stayed there to live if I had let them. A couple of them now say they're moving to Mexico to work at the resort when they get old enough. Anyway, don't listen to any of the negative comments about this place. Go, have fun, and don't look for things to complain about and you will have a blast.

Ok first off, cancun was amazing, one of the few places on earth you simply have to visit.

As for the hotel - The Great Parnassus - Absolutely amazing. we arrived to a massive lobby, and plenty of receptionists. we were given our rooms and keys and had checked in in about 7 minutes. the bell boys had our luggage and took them up to our room. our rooms were initially the wrong ones, we went back to reception, they sorted the matter out in less than 5 mins, and we were given new rooms and the bell boys were notified by the receptionists.

we had 2 double beds in each room, a 32 inch flatscreen tv and a fantastic view of the beach.

the rooms were cleaned brilliantly every day, a tip of 1 dollar a day kept the maid happy. a huge choice of restaurants for evening dining. if youre a vegetarian, then dinner may be a problem. nowhere (in the hotel or outside) does veggie burgers. pizza is only available in the hotel for lunch. my dinners mainly consisted of fries and pasta.

breakfast and lunch are amazing, ridiculous levels of choice.... not to mention fries, hot dogs and nachos available near the main pool.

use the facilities guys, the adults only pool is a brilliant place to tan and generally meet cool people. the hotel atlantis bar is great when its busy, its hard to tell when that is though, people just go in spur of the moment.

the hotel staff are amazing, everyone speaks top notch english.

if you go to any of the clubs, do it so that you go with the hotel. you can buy tickets to the clubs with reps at the hotel. they sell you tickets for less than you can get them from the club, and you get free transport to the club. VIP treatment in the club and your own table / waiter.

book excursions through the reps at the hotel too, you save loads.

use the spa and gym at least once, its all really really nice!

There was not a single thing wrong with this hotel. go, have your dollar bills ready to tip the maid and your waiters (not because you have to, but because they do a truly great job), have your suncream on at all times, and enjoy!
