I was with a group of 22 that stayed at this resort during the week of June 15 – June 22, 2009. I had a Club Room. I have been out of the country 8 times – from cruises to all-inclusive resorts and I have to say this is the worst experience I have had for the following reasons:
• CHECK-IN
o The desk attendant started to give us a pink wrist band and it was only after I asked about our dinner in the room and Lagoon Boat ride that another employee pointed out to her that she gave us the wrong band.
o We were immediately approached by Great Parnassus staff about going to listen to a timeshare presentation down the street at another hotel. I have NEVER had that happen either….AND I didn’t get a chance to get settled before I was approached about going somewhere else
• THE 1st ROOM - 1123
o The shower knob was very difficult to turn and most of the jets did not work
 This is surprising considering the age of this resort
o Our room key did not work, we were locked out EVERY time we left the room
 We had to go to the front desk a total of five times to get our room key reset, only to have it not work again and again
• We had to chase down maids / maintenance to ask them to let us into the room
 We finally requested another room – (one was not offered, we had to ask)
• We personally moved all of our belongings including the champagne, glasses, and fruit
• THE 2nd ROOM – 1127
o Although our first room had chairs on the balcony and in the room, our balcony in this room had no chairs. We had to move the chairs from inside the room to the balcony
o The shower knob in this room was broken, we had to insert the lever to turn it
o The shower doors did not close completely
o There must have been a leak between the wall and the shower because a significant amount of water leaked between the floor and the wall during every shower
 This was not because of the doors not closing, that produced it’s own pool of water
o We never received adequate wash clothes or towels
 Especially since we had to use towels to soak up the water from showers
o We left our room one day, only to return later in the evening to find our room had not been cleaned
o We had to continually call to have our refrigerator stocked because when we switched rooms, this room did not have a stocked refrigerator – and this should have been included as part of our Club room package
 It was finally stocked 2 days later
o The maid took our unopened champagne and although we told the front desk several times, it was never replaced
o The Jacuzzi took forever to fill up
o The vent in the ceiling right above the door leaked water all over the floor. A non-English speaking maintenance man came to fix the vent and started to leave. We had to ask who was getting up the water – which he didn’t understand. Eventually, we were able to signal to him that we needed the pool of water cleaned off the floor
 Why he didn’t automatically ask that someone clean the water up is beyond me – were we expected to clean up the water?
• THE FACILITIES AND SERVICE
o I have never been to an all inclusive resort where it was ‘implied’ that you should tip. There was a tip jar at every bar and the bartenders seemed to have attitudes. I tried to tip at previous resorts and was told that they were not allowed to accept tips….I thought the definition of all-inclusive was that tips and gratuity were included!
 The bell hops, wait staff, everyone seemed to expect a tip
o The bartenders were not very nice at all….they seemed perfectly okay with ignoring you
 The drinks left a lot to be desired…hardly any alcohol was in them
 Also, no list of provided drinks or what was in the drinks…again, I have seen this at many resorts I have visited
o The adult pool had a swim-up bar that was not staffed, ever
 Every resort I have been to that had a swim-up bar had it staffed
• There was no reason given on why the swim-up bar wasn’t staffed
 The other bar at the adult pool closed at 9PM
• If we are adults, why did the bar close at 9?
o How can the ice-cream shop which closed at 10:30PM be open longer than an adult bar?
o The pools did not seem to be cleaned regularly
 The Jacuzzis in the adult pool area had visible dirt bubbles floating in them…this was VERY disgusting
• I saw dirt bubbles on more than one occasion too
o None of the restaurants had outside seating ….again, all the resorts I have been to have had outside seating for some of the restaurants

I was very disappointed in my stay at the Great Parnassus, especially since my friend had never been to Mexico. This was a horrible first experience for him. Our group of 22 paid a significant amount of money to this resort, only to receive mediocre accommodations, rude bartenders, and shoddy living quarters. I personally would never recommend this resort to anyone.

I have been to Cancun 8 times and I have to say had my first stay been to the Great Parnassus I probably would have never gone back. My family and friends (22ppl total) stayed at the Great Parnassus June 15th-22nd. Our trip was a graduation present for my son plus my husband and I were celebrating our anniversary and my sister was celebrating her 25th birthday. It was something we all were looking forward to especially since some of our party were traveling to Cancun for the first time. What a big disappointment. It was only fun for us due to the fact we were such a large group and we had each other and we are really just the type of ppl who turn lemons into lemonade but I would never revisit this resort nor recommend it to anybody. Upon arrival before you even check into your room someone is harrassing you about a timeshare presentation at another resort they own. As if you didn't get enough of that crap at the airport now you have to be harrassed by the staff in the resort. I say harrassed because after politely declining the invite we were continually asked to reconsider almost daily by one of the staff. The rooms let's see. I had a family room for my husband and I plus our 4 kids. Daily we were given 3 towels and 2 washclothes! We constantly had to ask for the proper amount of towels to come in the room. We requested that our party be together 7 months in advance however we were spread out throughout the resort. My view to my room was of the Hilton hotels air conditioning system which was very very loud so you could not open your balcony door if you wanted sleep. What a way to spend your anniversary. Our toilet didn't flush properly the shower heads misted water on you not sprayed. My girlfriends ceiling in her shower collapsed while her and her 3 children were in the room. Some of our party had stopped up sinks and several people had water that leaked on their floors. The keys were not working properly and we would all be locked out of our rooms or keep having to get the keys reset. The housekeepers would either come at 7 am while you were still sleeping to try to clean or not come at all. My sister's maid had sticky fingers and stole a few things from her room which infuriated her. The drinks were watered down unless you were a beer drinker sometimes they would give you nonalocholic drinks yet they served drinks to my 11 year old son that were full of alcohol on a night that the entertainment staff was having a kid night only no adults in the karaoke lounge. The resort is supposed to be fairly new yet the ceiling in the lobby was falling down the power went out one night 4 over 5 hours with no back up generators. The adult only pool has a swimup pool bar but it is not open yet the swimup bar where kids can go is open. The hot tubs where the adult section was had dirt bubbles floating in them on more than one occassion. Although it is an all inclusive resort trust me tipping is highly expected from the bartenders and waitstaff. At every bar there is a tip jar and they are very very rude if you do not put anything in that jar. Put it this way you will wait 5 to 10 minutes for a drink while they wash glasses in your face and converse amongst themselves. The entertainment sucks the karaoke bar is a joke if you really like karaoke. The food is mediocre at best. Don't expect to go to the beach either because it is extremely rocky and rough everyday there are red flags up. We had to take an excursion off the resort for our kids to really get a chance to enjoy a beach. To top it all off 3 of us came home with the flu! Trust me save your money cause there is nothing great there at all.

I was also a little concerned after reading some of the reviews, but honestly, my family and I had a wonderful time. We hardly even left the resort. We ate and enjoyed most of the resturants (the French one was closed). The Magnus buffet is a good choice for breakfast/lunch because it's quick and has a lot variety (kids loved that). The pool side service was awesome...bring a few extra bucks to tip the waitresses and you'll never have to ask for any drinks...Housekeeping was also very good. We had Louis, and he always did a great job...again, give a few dollars a day, and you'll get service that's above and beyond (all the sheets changed daily, bathroom spotless...he would even arrange the girls' stuffed animals on their bunk beds...the girls really thought that was cool) Participate in the pool activities, the entertainment staff (Carlos, Eddie, Johnny and so many others) make it sooo much fun!! There is also a Kids Club. My girls really only went once/twice for an hour or two. They enjoyed doing the crafts, but other than that, they found it boring...
TIPS: Go see the Elvis show on Monday nights...the entertainment staff puts it on and it's a great show...Skip the mercado...the merchants there are WAY to PUSHY!! Instead...use your 10% off "Gold Card" (from guest sevices) and find all the same items (at usually the same or better prices) at the Galleria or the Arts and Craft shop...Le Creperie...the kids (and parents) LOVED it!!! Don't miss it...Ruinas Del Rey (Mayan archeological site...down the road past the Hilton, on the opposite side approx 15-20 minute walk) only costs about $3/person and $20 for your own personal tour guide (we had Carlos, he was a walking book of Mayan information, he was wonderful)...This tour was really interesting and we didn't have to give up an entire day going to Tulum or Chichen Itza...the beach at Great Parnassus is rocky (more like large flat boulders) but about 500 steps over at the Hilton's beach, it's much better. I actually enjoyed sitting on the rocks, it was very relaxing, and you don't get totally covered with sand!!! Interested in swimming with the Dolphins??? We booked Dolphin Discovery on Isla Mujeres (book online before you go, it's cheaper). The kids LOVED it...we were booked for the 3:30 session, we got there early (approx 3hours) and were able to snorkle also ($11/person) Not for the little ones though...there is a very nice pool there so the little ones were kept busy while my husband and older son snorkled. No need to bring towels either...towels are available for a deposit which is returned to you when you return the towel. WARNING: if you book the last dolphin swim of the day at 3:30, you will have to wait for the 5:30 ferry, which isn't so bad, but they will PACK you onto the ferry like sardines!! It made me VERY nervous...WAY too many people on the ferry, but you have NO other choice if you want to get back to Cancun. So beware, get to the ferry ASAP at the end of the day, otherwise you'll be stuck standing the entire trip back (approx 45 mins), along with about 100 other people.
