Travelled to Cancun with my hubby to celebrate our 5th year anniversary. The hotel, pool and clear blue waters made a very good first impression on us but everything went downhill from that point on. To mention just a few examples:
-Very rude and pushy sales people. Refused to leave us alone and lied through their teeth the entire time. They told us we'd be getting a tour of the suites and they'd explain to us how to book through the hotel instead of travel agencies and get better deals. We agreed to do it for a spa special (get 2 for 1 treatments). On the morning we were supposed to do this we decided to cancel as we only had a day left and wanted to enjoy some time in the sun. We were told we couldn't get our money back (1560 mxp that we paid for the spa) until our departure day. We were really uneasy about them holding on to our money so we agreed to do an hour tour (supposedly condensed) and still get the spa special. After we did the whole thing and of course decided not to go with any of the "special deals" they offered, we were returned our money and told we couldn't get the special because we didn't do the regular tour!!!! We were called out in the middle of the hotel lobby and chastized for changing our mind by the sales person that planned this whole thing, Roberto. We paid good money to stay here only to be insulted by a less than second rate sales moron! No amount of sunshine could lift my mood for the day - great way to celebrate an anniversary!
-We had continental breakfast included with our stay. We decided to take it in the room one morning to enjoy the view from our balcony. We were prepared to pay a service charge, but oh no, we had to pay for the whole thing plus service charge because we could only take our inclusive breakfast at the restaurant! We were so mad at that point that we just sent it back.
-We decided to pay for one of the bali beds by the pool. The lady in charge walked us to the bed and we paid her. She said she would be right back with our change. 2 hours later, still no change. We finally had to ask her and she said she didn't have any yet. We had to go get change ourselves from the bar that was standing 10 feet from her!!! Absolutely inexcusable for a 5 (???) star hotel.
-And what's up with being called "hey lady". You'd think that the employees of a "5" star hotel would be taught how to address their customers.
These were just few of many incidents that made us think that maybe Cancun is not for us. It might have been just the hotel but we'd think long and hard before ever returning to Cancun and, rest assured, if we do, we will not be staying at the ME.
