My husband and I celebrated our 25th anniversary for 4 nights at the Royal Cancun and 6 nights at the Royal Playa Del Carmen from April 14th-April 24th. We have been on many cruises, but this was our 1st all inclusive adventure. I did extensive research before booking, and afterwards was concerned about the overbooking, but absolutely no problems. I did the online check in and it was a breeze. From the moment we arrived we felt like royalty. The staff is amazing, especially for the wages they make. I am not sure I would be all smiles for the amount of hard work they put in and for the hours they work. The place is absolutely immaculate, and so beautiful. The pool was great and the view from the room was unbelievable. The food was very good, but I have to say that after a while I just craved some plain food. We really enjoyed Spice for breakfast. Bloody Mary's every morning. We enjoyed the Spice in Cancun better than Playa Del Carmen, because they made the doughnuts and churros fresh--what a treat! I guess it is because Cancun is a little smaller resort. We took a day trip over to Isla Mujeres and that was a great way to spend a day. Beautiful place and driving the golf carts was a blast. Riding the bus all over Cancun was quite an adventure--but you better hold on, because they drive like maniacs! We also rented a car and went from Cancun to Chichen Itza and back through Vallodolid to Playa. That was also a great day. We would go back to either place in a heartbeat--in fact, I'm already trying to figure out a way to pay for it.

“Loved it!!!”

The Royal Cancun

My husband and I and our 3 grown children(ages 18,19,& 25)stayed at the Royal Cancun from June 11 - 17. This was our second visit because we had such an incredible experience last summer. We were not disappointed this year either. The food and service were excellent! The rooms are lovely and the beds are very comfortable. Every restaurant has good food, but we especially liked the Pelican. We never had a problem getting a cabana or poolside chairs, and my family played pool volleyball everyday. One thing that was disappointing was that they have discontinued playing games at the pool every afternoon apparently because of complaints. They used to do trivia games,... and if you got an answer wrong then you had to take a shot of tequila and we used to have so much fun! If you won the game, you received a bottle of tequila. If we hadn't had volleyball, we would have been bored. We met some great and fun people, and the guys at the pool who ran the activities were awesome. Said, Alvarro, Alex, Rolando, and Fernando---we love you guys and you made my kids vacation awesome! All the beachtlers and waitresses at the pool are friendly and will do anything to please you from applying suntan lotion or even aloe vera if you're burned. Ask for Caesar...he is the best!!! Remember to tip these people a few bucks. They don't get paid much and they work long hours. We highly recommmend this place...you will not be disappointed!

AMAZING! All I can say is that when you tell people you are staying at the Royal, they are JEALOUS! At one point my BF and I took a jet ski ride right in front of the hotel and you can see all the hotels from the water. They don't compare to the royal AT ALL! Great service, great food, AMAZING rooms! I was SO nervous being two young kids (23 yrs old) and this being our first vacation without the parents. We have stayed at 5 star hotels in mexico and hawaii before, this was the best i've encountered. The food can get a little redundant however, just walk arcross the street to margaritaville, outback, buba gump and you'll be good! (we only ate out twice in 7 days and that worked out great!). We are going back in December and I cannot wait!!!!

P.S. a lot of people we met that stayed 5 days kept complaining that is just wasn't enough time. I though 7 nights was perfect!

“Awesome exceded our expectations”

The Royal Cancun

My wife and I stayed for two weeks to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary 27th may - 10th June
Having traveled for 14 hours from Spain to England and on to Cancun we were not too sure what to expect after reading many revues over the last 6 months.
We were pleased to find that from the moment we arrived to the moment we departed we were treated like royalty.
The room was out of this world. The food was superb and the service of all the staff was a credit to the resort.
The entertainment was excelent along with the entertainment staff.
WE were treated with respect and curtisy by everyone from the bell boys to the management.
WE hade made plans to do all kinds of trips during our two week stay, but apart from one day big game fishing we never left the resort.
WE were so pampared and relaxed there was no need,we had everything.
Just one last note, there are almost all the branded spirits you need.Just ask.I was supplied with Bombay Saphire gin all the time.If you are a gin drinker than you will know there is no better.
We will definitely be returning dispite the 14hour flight.
Finaly may we say hello to all the nice American people we met (too many to name) we loved you all.

My fiance and I stayed at the Royal Cancun from June 13th-16th. It was our first time visiting Cancun. We've stayed at many all-inclusive resorts throughout the Caribbean and the Royal has been one of the best in our opinion. The hotel is beautiful! The staff is great and extremely helpful. We booked the hotel through expedia but I did email the hotel and was in contact with a representative of Royal before our arrival there. He informed me of the transportation from the airport to the hotel and offered the room-upgrades that were available.

Upon check-in we were greeted with a cold towel and champagne. We stayed in the Master Swim Up Suite and it was amazing! The room was huge and had great views! The shower was amazing and there was plenty of hot water; the in-room Jacuzzi had a gorgeous view of the pool and the ocean and our semi-private pool was perfect for late night swimming or cooling off. The beds were extremely comfortable and they provided plenty of extra pillows. We were celebrating my birthday so there was cake, champagne and rose petals and swan towels on our bed when we arrived. We hooked up our i-pod to the bose system provided in the room which was nice. Turn down service was GREAT! They lit candles by the Jacuzzi, started the aroma-therapy you chose upon check in and dimmed the lights, cleaned up again, turned down the bed and left chocolates on the bed.

Food was very good. We ordered room service once and it came very quickly and tasted great. We had breakfast at Spice everyday. It was buffet style but you could pretty much get anything you wanted if you asked. They are very accommodating. Food was good and all the waiters are very nice and helpful. We also had dinner at Pelicanos and Maria Marie. Again food was very good, portions were perfect and service was great! We also did the Chef’s Plate on our last night. I was a little nervous since I don’t usually try new things and stick to things I am comfortable with but everything was really good. We were served four main courses, sorbet and dessert. Red or White wine was also served.
We are not heavy drinkers so we had mostly frozen drinks during our stay. They were pretty good. 24 hour café is good for snacking in btwn meals or for late night snacks.
Lobby bar was nice to hang out at before going into the town at night.

Didn’t use the spa but it did seem very nice.

The Beach was very nice and clean. The waves were a bit rough but we still enjoyed every minute of being in the water. It was not crowded and there were plenty of chairs and cabanas to relax in.

Pool area was also very nice. We didn’t have to play any of the towel games I read about in other reviews as our room came with a reserved cabana but even when we wanted to sit anywhere else in the pool area, there were always chairs available. The pool waiters are hardworking and very quick. You never really needed to get up for a drink. They were always there asking for your order before you were even done with your drink.

Please be sure to tip all the staff! They do really work very hard and are always very pleasant and go above and beyond for just about anything you need.

Setting up excursions was fairly easy with the hotel travel agency in the lobby. Cabs are always available by the hotel. The hotel also has nightly shows but we never go to any of them.

There is a money exchange counter in the hotel lobby but the dollar is accepted everywhere so we didn’t really worry about changing money. We went to a few clubs in the town. LOTS of college kids acting really wild and crazy but it was pretty fun to just watch them. Definitely NOT recommended if you’re looking to have a drink with mature people. You have to have an open-mind and not be easily insulted by anything you see because at most of the clubs its pretty much anything goes.

We didn’t have any problem with time-share sales. I was already aware from reading the reviews here so I just avoided anyone that offered anything “free”. Overall, we had a great time at the Royal and are looking forward to returning!
