We just returned from the Royal and I couldn't wait to get back to post my review. I've stayed at quite a few hotels, but The Royal has to be among the best (with the exception of the guest services rep who kept stalking us). Upon arrival to the hotel, we were taken to the concierge for check-in and given a glass of champagne and a cold towel. After check-in with the concierge, we were turned over to a guest services rep who went over the amentities of the hotel. He invited us to breakfast the next morning for a 90 min presentation..He said he wanted to show us the different restaurants and activities the hotel has to offer. We initially accepted the invitation and was given a slip with our appt time. However, after reviewing the slip, it required both my husband and I to come together with a major credit card(whenever I see a credit card is required, a red flag goes up because he was going to try to sell us a timeshare for their other properties)--Needless to say, we didn't show up. Everyday after that we were hounded by Carlos. He initially offered us $50, a beach bag and a towel.. By the 3rd day since we kept turning him down, he then bumped up the offer to $100 plus the beach bag and a beach towel.. Even though he was very persistent, we still turned him down and tried to avoid him at all cost...
When we arrived to our room, there was a bottle of champagne and a piece of cake with a Happy Anniversary sign. Also our bed was filled with rose petals and towels shaped like doves. Our room had a minibar with beverages and snacks. The oceanview displaying the turquoise water from the room was magnificient.
The service was also great. I have to give recognition to Esperanza (the waitress in the bar lounge). She was wonderful. She made sure our glasses stayed full and came around every 5 mins to check on us. Also, Ceasar (the pool attendant) was also wonderful. As previous reviews stayed, please bring plenty of small bills to tip. The entire wait staff really work hard to make sure all guests are pleased and they truly deserve it (plus service is a little bit better for the tippers).
As posted by previous reviews, my husband got sick while we were there. . I recommend bottled water and I only ate foods I could identify (no experimenting for me).
Located across the street from the resort : Bubba Gump Shrimp, Margariettaville, Outback Steakhouse, and Pat O'Briens. There is also a stripmall where you can purchase inexpensive souveniers.
Transportation: We arranged to have CancunShuttle pick us up from the airport. We payed for roundtrip transportation which was only $34. The taxi's were charging $80-$120 just to take people from the airport to their hotel. If you are staying in the hotel zone, the R1 & R2 buses are very convenient and inexpensive. The cost is only 65 cents whereas the taxis were charging $40.
We would definitely stay at this hotel again as the rooms were spacious, the service was wonderful and the entire ambiance of the hotel was very romantic and relaxing.
