My boyfriend and I stayed at the Royal from June 13-June 19th for his 25th birthday. Upon arrival to the royal, our bags were taken and he were lead to one of the check in tables and given a glass of champagne each. We met with Armando who went through the whole introduction including telling us what was included and what wasn't as well as giving us our bracelets and asking us how we heard about the hotel. We then were told that there were no rooms with a king bed available but there would be one available in three days. From reading all the past reviews on trip advisor I knew to expect this but since we were going during the swine flu scare I didn't think we would have a problem. Boy was I wrong. We, as well as everyone else that has been through this was offerred to upgrade for more $$! I was furious! Here we were after traveling all day, on my boyfriend's birthday and we could not get the room we booked in February. (somewhat) fortunately my boyfriends' Aunt is the Vice President of the travel agency we used so we quickly got her on the phone. She explained to us that unfortuantely this is how the industry operates and not just this hotel. She advised us to go with the upgrade. After sitting there for an hour and speaking with the manager twice we upgraded to the corner sweet which we originally told was an extra $70 per night but was then given at $20 extra per night.....surprise surprise! Needless to say it was a very frustrating experience and be prepared to go through it. We took it as far as we could and eventually just brushed it off.

The service and the food at this hotel quickly got us back into vacation mode. All of the workers are bilingual and speak English very well. We ate lunch at Pelicano's almost everyday because I wanted pizza and my boyfriend wanted seafood. We had breakfast at Spice every morning because it was buffet. They have waffles, pancakes, french toast and omelettes made to order. We had dinner at Asiana (Hibatchi twice...it was delicious!), Maria Marie (good for steaks) and Pelicano's makes for a romantic dinner because you can grab a table that looks directly onto the beach. We were able to eat at Chef's Plate since we had an upgraded room. The dinner was fabulous and we met some really nice people. The drinks were good (get the electric lemonade) and there are liquor bottles right in your room! There is also a coffee shop with all kinds of coffees and teas with yummy treats and a chocolate fondue fountain with strawberries that were usually out during the day. We had room service (which is included and is available 24/7) for breakfast one morning.

I read on previous reviews that the beach is quite small. This is true but we did not find it to be an inconvenience and were always able to find a comfortable spot. We received our own poolside cabana with our upgraded room which was nice but we did not have any trouble finding other seats when we wanted to sit in the sun. There was always a girl walking around asking us if we wanted drinks which was nice because we didn't even have to get up.

We booked through funjet vacations which was partnered through Lomus Travel. Lomus booked us with our para sailing and party hopper package (highly recommend both). There is Margaritaville and Pat O'Briens right across the street and everything else is a quick bus ride away. Take the R1 or the R2 and it's 15 pesos one way for two people. You can get change at the front desk.

In the end we did have a really great vacation but be prepared to go through the ordeal in the beginning. It is wrong what they do and we took it as far as we could but we weren't going to let it ruin our weeks stay.

AMAZING...Love everything about this hotel.

We have just returned from 2 weeks in paradise!! We will definately return to this hotel however we will not book through Thomas Cook.

We booked direct with TC Signature and as it was our anniversary we also booked the Royal service as advertised in the brochure, to entitle us to our own reserved beach cabana, bvlagari bath ameneties, free international calls, free internet,1 hour mini cooper test drive, free green fees and an invitation to chefs plate.

Prior to departure we tried to use the online booking service to reserve our suite alas this didn't work (this was the only hiccup with the hotel itself).

We had paid for flight upgrades with Thomas Cook and although we could have had another holiday for the price of the upgrade we feel that for the sheer comfort and the service the upgrade was well worth every penny. As part of the upgrade your bags are guarunteed to be off loaded quickly which was fantastic. (Avoid speaking to anyone that isn't in a TC uniform at the airport as we thought the Stephanie was welcoming us to Cancun and in fact was just trying to get us to visit a new resort!!!Time shared within 10 mins of arriving a new world record I think)
After been sent to the wrong coach (not mini bus as stated in the brochure) by TC ground staff we then had to wait 1hr 40 mins for everyone else to collect their bags before we could depart!!! Not a good start!

On arrival at the hotel our baggage was taken from us by the concierge who then took us up to our floor (6) to check in with our own personal concierge. We were given ice cold towels and champagne. We were given our little "whats included" list and realised that alot of the extra's that we had paid TC for wern't actually included anymore!! No cabana, calls, internet, bath ammenities, golfing, mini cooper. In fact our Royal service actually got us a bathrobe to lend, slippers and a turndown service!! We were told we could upgrade to a corner suite to receive most of the extras but would have to upgrade to swim up suite (£156/night!!) to receive all the Royal service!! Again not the hotels fault as they had made TC aware that the package had changed earlier in the year.

Our room was breathtaking and exactly as pictured in the brochure complete with double shower and jacuzzi!

We spoke to our Rep Richard regarding the missing parts of our package and after about an hour admitted that there had been a brochure errata that should have been issued prior to our departure advising of the changes to the service. He managed to arrange for us to have a cabana for the remainder of our holiday but then vanished before he could sort out the remiander of the missing services.

The rooms are spectacular, and the cleaners do a great job. Down at the pool you have Ivan, Rafael and Carlos looking after your every need, sunglasses cleaned, fresh towels, llilo's and even when I had got burnt on my back Rafael bathed my back daily until it was better! There was always someone around to get you drinks if you didn't want to go to the pool bar. The left hand side of the pool is the noisier pool, with water gym and volleyball etc however on the right there is the infinity pool and no music so definately something for everyone.

The food was second to none, all the restaraunts were excellent with Asiana being my favouite, Roberto was a great waiter. Carlos also wanders around every restaraunt checking out the everything from preperation to service. He took great pride in ensuring thenguests were well fed!

No shortage of drink choices either, from a martini to a Mango tango or Miami Vice!!

We visited Chichen Iza agin booked through TC, amazing sights but the food on offer on the day was very poor. Be prepared for a very long day, about 6 hours on a coach and 6 hours out in the heat.

We did get a refund from TC ( Chris, a different rep from day 1 was very helpful) for the Royal Service which didnt even cover the cost the 5 calls home.

Had a great time, made great friends and came home feeling like royalty. Thanks to the Royal Cancun.

We will return to this hotel without a doubt but we will not use Thomas Cook again.

Talk about getting spoiled! First of all I have done my fair share of all-inclusives and this has the best food hands down! Everyone was super friendly and accomodating. The rooms are beautiful- all have ocean views! I was there May 25th and 26th 2009 right after the Swine Flu scare and sadly you could tell how that affected the tourism industry in Mexico- no crowds at all. Highly recommend this hotel if you are looking for adults only!

My Girlfriend and I stayed at the Royal in June, 09. Having researched the hotel before we went, I kinda had a good idea on what to expect, both good and bad! Prior to departure I attempted to book in using the hotel's on-line facitily on their web-site, however this was unsuccessful.

On arrival at the Royal, after an extremely long flight from the UK and then the nightmare that was Cancun Airport, all we wanted to do was check in and get to out room. Our bags were taken from the coach by consierge and we were directed to the check-in desk. We were both sat down and eventually offered a glass of Champagne, nothing in Cancun moves at any real pace! On checking-in, I was informed that the hotel had no rooms with a King Size bed available, which I had booked, however a room with this bed would become free in 2 days time. However, if I wanted to UPGRADE I could immediately have a room with a King Size bed. Having previously done my research, I knew that all the rooms in this hotel were to a high standard, so politely refused the UPGRADE invitation. It should also be noted that the price for the UPGRADE originally quoted for the 2 weeks was $250 however on pressing the price dramatically dropped to $140.

The room was fantastic. 2 double beds instead of 1 King Size, however this did not bother us in the slightest. All rooms in the hotel have a Sea View and after speaking to people who did UPGRADE there was absolutely no difference in the room, the only difference being a place at the Chef's Plate restaurant and an alleged i-pod, however many people found it extremely difficult in sourcing this from reception and housekeeping alike!! The room was always kept extremely clean and the turn down service was a mini room clean also, new towels etc. The jacuzzi was also fantastic, however took about 15 minutes to fill up! Samsung flat screen TV and DVD player also in the room along with mini bar, which probably could have been re-stocked more often that it actually was. Minor disappointment was the fact that out room overlooked the lobby so it could get noisy during the show's etc.

The restaurant's and Bar in the Hotel were excellent. All restaurant's served Gourmet food and honestly, there was something for everyone. The Bar was a slight disappointment due to the fact that it is actually just one round bar, sectioned off and named. Therefore one bar equals four bars, if you know what I mean! However the drinks selection is good, premium spirits, but if you want them, you have to ask for them by name! Lager and Beer was ok, however I was expecting a Corona or 2, but the Hotel didnt stock Corona!

The Hotel was always extremely clean, and the staff all very attentive and friendly. The staff do take very kindly to tips, therefore we did tip them almost every night. Roberto from Asiana, Oscar from the Bar and Omar from Nightly Animation all deserve a mention, they were excellent!

Market 28 which is the local flea market, situated in Downtown Cancun, was awful. Nothing but tacky rubbish that I honestly could not bring myself to buy, avoid it at all costs!!

In conclusion, on arrival at the hotel, you will definately be advised to UPGRADE, however, there is absolutely no need and is an added unnecessary expense. All rooms are exceptional and all have a Sea View.

Have fun at the Royal, Cancun!!!

My husband and I decided to go back to this hotel for our belated anniversary trip. We stayed here May 17-20, 2009, during the swine flu scare and the hotel was a ghost town. We were told the hotel occupancy was down by 80%, it was sad, but we made the best of it anyway. We had a Royal Master swim-up suite and it was FANTASTIC. When we checked-in we were sent to the "Romance Conceige" and they were so nice. Due to low turn out they did have a GREAT deal at the spa. All spa treatments were 50% off!!!! I made sure I took advantage of that, sorry back to the room. When you walk in the room there is a sitting area, desk with a espresso machine, a couch, and a large hutch with a frig and snacks in it. Once you walk past the hutch you step down into the "bedroom" where there is a large jacuzzi tub tucked away in the corner. Now for the best part of it all the balcony! You step out and there are two chairs and a small table. When you take about five steps off the balacony you are in own semi-private pool. You actually share this pool with four other suites, but we were the only ones ever out there. If you walk just a few feet in the pool there is a set of stairs you climb and you can get into the public pool. We both would highly recommend this suite. It is a bit more expensive, but it is worth it. They also gave us a small cake and another bottle of champagne for our special day. Thank you for the great food and service, we will return! Happy Traveling!!! :)
