Just returned from our stay at Elan. If anything the place is even more beautiful since those pics have been taken due to the growing vines and more mature vegetation. There was only a handful of other couples during our stay which at first felt eerie, but after you get over it you feel like the staff is there to only serve you, which made us feel like millionaires!

The villa we stayed in was clean and beautiful. The porter staff was good at providing fresh clean towels daily which had the most warming and heavenly smell ever! Occasionally we were left a surprise swan or two with some petals on our bed! The first day we arrived there was no hot water, but a comment was made to the desk and was quickly fixed. The room had a DVD player but I would recommend bringing your own because their selection consisted of about 20, mostly in Spanish or from the 80's. We ventured outside of the resort to swim at a local beach to experience the Caribbean waters, only to realize that it was full of children and the water wasn't all that spectacular. We stayed about an hour and then happily went back to our resort.

Only 3 restaurants were open during our stay, but after you taste the food it didn't matter all that much. The food was amazing and its presentation was like none I've ever seen. The wait staff was very friendly and offered a good explanation of all the dishes if you asked. Lookout for Tony he was our favorite! Juan was great as well and was always ready to whip up awesome drinks. Music was played by the pool which helped add to the feeling of their little Mexican town.

The only downside was the mosquitoes. I couldn't go outside after sunset without getting at least 10 bites! They did provide mosquito repellent wipes, which I used along with the mosquito repellent/sunblock I brought along, but neither seemed to help. By our fourth night the indoor restaurant was opened. I would recommend the resort use some citronella candles at the outdoor tables instead of the regular candles they had. Also bring along some spray that is only repellent, maybe my mix of repellent/sunblock watered it down. Other than the bites our stay was phenomenal and we would definitely go back again!

  • Liked — The look and feel of a Mexican village.
  • Disliked — The mosquitoes at night.

I stayed a few days at the Elan Resort with my boyfriend and our stay was more then enjoyable!
The staff was very friendly and helpul, and the food at the restaurants, very tasty.
If you want a quiet and romantic stay, don't hesitate to stay at the Elan Resort, we are french and after we visited Acapulco, Mexico City and Cancun, we prefered Cancun and of course Elan.

The Elan Resort and Spa is a lovely resort . The staff was extremely accommodating but the management and the way things are represented on their website are lacking. Examples: front desk management weren't up-to-speed in hotel management and making sure the guests were taken care of especially with things that were promised. The food was amazing, the chefs did a great job but you are promised several dining options and find out there aren't any it is disappointing. There was never a buffet at dinner and there was only one option each night for dinner, not the choice of 6 restaurants that was indicated on their website. Bars were not open in the evenings as indicated, one night we actually were our own bartenders for the group of people that were staying at the resort as there was no bartender to be found after dinner (at 9:00 p.m.) There was no entertainment for the entire time we were there. They have 2 gym areas but only one was open and had limited equipment. They had problems with water and plumbing our entire stay, including having no water during some time periods along with strong smell of sewage in the rooms from the drains. We loved the resort itself it was like being in a small beautiful Mexican Village, the foliage was spectacular as were the fountains and pool areas. The bartenders, room maids and waiters were extremely helpful. If the Elan Resort and Spa wants to remain open they need to seriously address the lacking of managerial staff and work on the plumbing problems and the sewage odor that is in the guest rooms along with the dining options or change their website as it is extremely misleading.

  • Liked — the beauty of the resort
  • Disliked — lack of managerial expertise

I've just arrived from 10 days holidays at the Elan Resort in Cancun.
We have booked a Villa and it was great. Staff very friendly, Everything worked ok at the Villa and the food was of an Outstanding quality.
Only 3 restaurants of 7 were opened everyday but they were changing day by day, so we had the opportunity to try 6 of the 7 restaurants, we think one of them was not in service.

My wife really enjoyed the Spa and their prices were reasonable.

I will come back someday.

My wife and I stayed at Elan just a week ago, in early April. It was absolutely wonderful, exactly what we were looking for. The property is laid out like a small Mexican village, and is essentially an oasis from the hustle and bustle that typifies the rest of Cancun.

We were greeted at the front desk with a couple of tropical cocktails and escorted to a nice (but not lavish) room in one of the towers. It was clean and well laid out with a comfy bed. After a shower, we adjourned downstairs at the pool bar, where we enjoyed multiple beverages over the remainder of the afternoon. Dinner was outside next to the Palapa that evening, and I had one of the best pieces of fish ever.

The remainder of the week, our routine was essentially the same: a wonderful breakfast in the Palapa (try the Mayan egg dish- excellent), the remainder of the morning by the pool. The pool bar opens at 10 (!), and Juan or Marco are itching to start serving drinks right away. After a few hours (and occasionally a few beverages), we'd head up to the room for a shower and get ready for lunch, which was normally served in the plaza right next to the waterfront pool. A siesta after lunch, followed by either a little exploring (which only served to demontrate that we liked it just fine at the resort) or more pool time- including the swim up bar. A little rest before dinner (meals here are served relatively late by US standards- I don't think anyone ate before 8:30).

We met and made friends with a wonderful couple from England who also seemed to be enjoying themselves immensely, and got an upclose view of a whole lot of wildlife native to the region. The food was uniformly excellent, the drinks were top notch and freely flowing, and the service was extremely attentive. We would never have left if we didn't have to go back to work. We are already looking at going back next Spring.

  • Liked — The service was outstanding
  • Disliked — Not on the ocean, but on the lagoon. For us thius was not a problem.
