I visited Cancun last week with my husband and my eight-year old son. Never having experienced a zip-line before, and having read the great reviews, we booked Selvatica for Tuesday. The van was at our hotel exactly when we were told. As we were at the Hilton, our ride only took about 40 minutes, and was very comfortable.
Selvatica has very nice base facilities, all under a large palapa, including a bar, a small store with Selvatica merchandise and the main desk. They have lockers which you can use for a $5 deposit that is refunded with return of the key.
We signed in and shortly were fitted with our equipment -- a harness, gloves and a helmet. Then we were seated for a fun demonstration/instructional session with our guides. You can tell that they enjoy their jobs.
Then it was up to the first platform! It is a bit of a climb, with some steep, narrow stairs, but you are latched onto a safety line the entire time. I wasn't sure how simply pulling down on a single glove would slow me down, but sure enough, after the first line I was totally comfortable with the process. My eight-year old son was behind me, and to my surprise, he was zipping along on his own right behind me. He is sometimes timid with new experiences, so I was very surprised. The guides know what they are doing!
We all had a blast. I wouldn't recommend it to those extremely afraid of heights, though. And don't wear flip-flops! The gentleman in front of me lost his on tower #7.
