OK, so this is my personal experience with this hotel. However, we did speak to several other guests and they had many of the same experiences. We arrived at the hotel about an hour before check-in, and our room was not yet ready. Not a problem, as check in isn't until 3PM. We got a drink from the lobby bar and sat down out in general lobby area, where we were approached by Tonita, who wanted to let us know all the wonderful things they had to offer during our stay. This "welcome" turned to be a sales pitch to tour the Hilton hotel. We tried to explain that we were not interested in touring other hotels, we hadn't even checked in and had a long day of travel and really just wanted to relax, at which point she sternly told us that she was not finished speaking! We extricated ourselves as graciously as we could, others who were not so lucky I understand had to sit through a two hour "presentation". Next, we get to our room and it's hot...really, really hot. I noticed that the air conditioner unit was off, so we cranked it up and assumed the room would cool down. It didn't. One couple we spoke to had a digital clock in their room that also had a thermostat and they said their room never got below 76 degrees, this was after stuffing towels under the door to try to keep the little bit of air that did come out in the room. Then, our room keys stopped working...everyday we had to go back down to the front desk and have them re-programmed. Also, keep a close eye on your things, even the beach towels they give you because people will steal your towels and the hotel charges $15 per lost towel. You can try to go to the towel hut and reason with them but they will just send you to the concierge who also will not help you. The next thing is the beach, if you can call it that. There is a little roped off area that you can't go beyond because the hotel is next to a marina with boats coming in and out. The water comes up to your thigh at it's deepest point, so forget swimming in the ocean. When you try to schedule your transfer back to the airport, be prepared to listen to the rep give you another sales pitch about all of the additional excursions. Our rep Alex was very difficult to work with, I had to go see him eight times to get our return accommodations squared away. It seems that I wasn't a priority because I wasn't booking any excursions through him. We finally got him to give us a pick up time for the shuttle the day before we were scheduled to leave. One more negative thing, don't bother ordering room service, or at a minimum order it three hours before you want it delivered because that's how long it takes. On the positive side, the food in all the restaurants and buffets was very good. The rooms were kept clean and nobody touched our things (although we did purchase a safe key to ensure that didn't happen). Cancun is a beautiful city and it is safe to go out by yourselves and explore. Take the bus, as it is very inexpensive and runs every five minutes to basically anywhere you would want to go for shopping, nightlife, etc. My best advice to anyone reading this is to stay at a different hotel, and don't stay at any of the Oasis chains.
