The transfer by mini bus was short and sweet, no long line ups and we were able to avoid the Hawkers selling time share and trips etc at 'great ' rates. After you collect your luggage proceed to the bus area out the main doors and look for your tour operators representative.
Unless you need help with luggage just keep your bags with you anyone who touches your bags will be looking for a tip no matter how short a distance they move your bags.
Be ware of the folks wearing what looks like official uniforms, if they don't have your travel operators name tag on, they are more than likely going to try to sell you tours or time share so be warned. They will try to ask you which hotel you are staying at and then tell you to follow them, don't.
The check in staff at the hotel were very efficient and friendly and were able to find 2 rooms close together for myself and my wife and our 2 teenage sons.
The rooms and common areas are all very new and are kept spotless by the attentive cleaning staff. It was very nice to have air conditioned spotless wash rooms available.
We found the food was really quite good, we were always able to find something acceptable to eat at the main buffet . The selection was very good and yes there were some line ups while various items were being cooked but hey at least you have some input as to how the food is cooked and you know it hasn't been sitting around all day as if waiting for the 2nd coming.
I have noticed that some people find this unacceptable, my opinion is you get what you pay for and if you require to be served to make your vacation then perhaps you should try for another hotel and pay for that service. I noticed that very few people tipped the bar staff and waiters etc. I know it is supposed to be all inclusive but I found that human nature being what it is , a few bucks goes a long way to getting better service and drinks coming to the table much quicker,.... your choice.
I would agree with other contributors regarding drinks, my son brought a little breath test device with him and after several cups of the 'Crona' we were all testing as unimpaired.
This is not necessarily a complaint, it was nice not to have a bunch of drunks in the hotel and you do have to keep up your fluids in the heat so knock yourself out on the near beer.
I think the canned beers in the mini fridges were regular strength but almost everything else was not ( unless you tipped the barman).
If I had a complaint it would be that he barman in the main lobby bar appeared to be in training for the national hide and seek team and to be honest they stand a very good chance of making it by the performances I saw of them dissappearing into thin air when you were looking for them!.
The power of the tip seemed to cure them of this nasty habit, but this should not have to be the case.
The overall feel to the place was bright clean and cheerful, most rooms appear to have an ocean view and most appear to be with in easy walking distance to the bars restaurants pools etc, this was a nice feature.
The Pools were great, the beach inspite of the best efforts of the beach combers was a bit weedy for my liking. There was also a fare amount of garbage floating in the water and I hate to say it but some of it looked like toilet paper! I could be wrong but being so close to Cancun , I would have bet money that it was indeed sewage. We stuck to the pools to cool off and walked the beach in the morning.
The snorkel tour offered by the guys beside the swim up bar appeared to be the best value. They picked you up from the beach and took you to 2 parts of the reef for about a 45min swim in each spot. We would recommend this as the best value. Others offer free lunches etc but as you have already paid for your all inclusive, why pay again?
We didn't take in any of the entertainment except the movie nights and they were fine but I can't speak to the live shows as we didn't go the any but they were available.
Over all i thought it was value for money I liked the 'Funky' design of the rooms and I would recommend this as a good family holiday destination .

My husband and I just got back from a 6 day stay (Aug. 24-29th), not long enough. Wish we had booked at leat one more day but we had a great time nonetheless.

I must say after reading most of the reviews on here i was pretty nervous to say the least, but i also know you can only believe a small portion of what you read. So I'm gonna start with the whole shower issue. I had read that it leaked from almost every review i read so i took that to heart. At the end of the day I would just put one of our pool towels inside the shower in front of the door and we never had a problem. Hang it over the balcony after and it was dry the next morning. To me really not a big deal, nothing that is going to ruin my trip.

Also, they tend to be a little slow at the pool bar to get a drink. They definately need another bartender or two. The first day there i think, we were waiting like 10 mins and there were no bartenders around. I think they were getting ice or something. Yes it was annoying but again not going to ruin my trip - you are on vacation. And the pool part of the pool bar closed at 5 which i thought was a little early since the pool is open till around 8ish but the land side of it stayed open late so we would all take turns getting out and getting rounds of drinks.

On to the food. We didnt really eat at the buffet except for breakfast everyday which is really good. We had lunch there the first day which was ok but most all-inclusive buffets tend to be repetitive so i didnt really want to eat there for dinner. All three speciaties were very good. Mexican and Japanesse were pretty easy to get into. Itailan was more difficult cause they only have about 18 table and 2 or 3 servers. Once we finally got in the service wasnt that slow. I dont understand why all these people complain about this and that taking so long. You are on vacation so what is the rush you are there to relax. And if you are that hungry there are other places where you can get something quick to eat even if you dont want to go to the buffet.

Check in was pretty simple. It isnt till 3 pm and we were there around 12:30 so i knew we would have to wait for our room. Went up to the counter gave all the infomation, was told to get changed and go enjoy the pool and lunch and that we could check back around 2 to see if our room was ready. Went back then room was ready, was shown where to go and about 5 mins after getting to the room our bags arrived. We told them it was our anniversay before arriving and we had champagne and choclate covered strawberries wating for us. We resevered a royal jr suite (which has the jaccuzi) and that is exactly what we got. And i dont understand how a review said that they didnt have any ocean view when the buildings are horse shoe shaped so it's pretty hard not to have at least a partial ocean view. None of the buildings are right on top of the ocean so you wont really get a beach and ocean view but you will see ocean.

All in all we had a wonderful time, met some great people and wish we were stil there right now. You are in a beautiful setting away from your jobs and home and everyday stress how can you not have a good time. It is what you make of it and i really think people just go there to complain. You can see they are trying to improve casue certain nights when they would have entertainment by the pool they would have some one with comment cards for you to fill out. If you have booked or are thinking about dont worry i'm sure you'll have a good time if you arent going with the intention to find something wrong and just want to relax and have a good time

“Beautiful but growing pains”

Ocean Coral & Turquesa

Let me start by saying that we enjoyed ourselves and had a great vacation! However, I would not return to this particular hotel. For comparison, we have travelled to Riu Yucatan, Camino Real Cancun (now known as Dreams Cancun), and Renaissance Jamaica Grand (now Sunset Jamaica Grand). My wife, myself and our 4-year old son went on this trip.

Positives: beautiful buildings, nice setup, all rooms with at least a partial ocean view. Beautiful, spacious pools, some with gradual inclines good for kids. Sea turtle breeding ground (got to see some as they hatched!!). Close to airport - literally 20 minutes, first dropoff for Apple Vacations bus and last to be picked up for return trip.

Negatives: Service. As listed in many other reviews, this was a problem. We are not picky people and I mistakenly thought that some of the other reviewers were exagerating a bit, but I was wrong (sorry!!). The in-room fridge does not get restocked daily and we desperately wanted bottled water. Notes left in Spanish with extra tip money did not even get us water. Multiple calls to the desk didn't either. When I actually had to make the walk to the lobby to confront them about this (long way from building 20) - I was directed to the bar to get the water. (For those who DO still decide to go here - the bar is the best place to get water, which I would have appreciated knowing earlier in the week!) The drinks are not nearly as good as others I have had from all-inclusives. Only Corona on tap (take an insulated mug!). Despite the large size of the resort, very few inconvenient places to get drinks. The food was ok (good at breakfast, fair at lunch and ok at dinner). Seemed to be lacking wait staff in the specialty restaurants. However, the Italian was awesome - some of the best lasagne I have ever had! The Japanese steak house was entertaining - get the sake! At the Mexican restaurant, we were told they don't have any cheese!!!! Specialty restaurants are first come first serve so get there early. The info given on check in say that they open at 6:30 though they actually open at 6. Oh, the buffet is set up horribly (people waiting in LONG lines for made to order stations right in front of food that is ready making it very difiicult to get to).

Prepare to sleep poorly as the fan will turn off every few hours if the motion detectors don't detect any movement - no fix for this according to the desk (why is there no night setting??)

I signed up to be a member of the H10 club before we left and I'm not sure that provided me with any benefit. I DID e-mail them before the trip to let them know we were celebrating an anniversary and we had white chocolate strawberries and chilled champagne waiting for us on arrival. However, some other couples we met that were ther for their honeymoons received the same thing despite not being H10 members.

As others have said, lots of seaweed on the beach. The workers try hard to rake it all day, but it just isn't the same as a machine doing it like the other resorts. The water was also not as clear as other places we've been.

PS - go to Zoo Crococun! About a 2 mile cab ride away - lots of interaction with the animals -great for kids and ony $21 for adults!!

Hopefully some of this will get better as the resort matures. However, I would without hesitation go back to one of the Riu resorts next time as the service was far superior, food MUCH better and the ocean much clearer.

“Best All Inclusive Experience in Mexico”

First of all the people who have enough time to take pictures of broken screws and chipped paint of hotel rooms should probably stick to the hotel chains like Hilton, Marriott and Sheraton and not venture out to experience exotic locations! I have read so many reviews complaining about poor experiences about this hotel I was a little apprehensive. At the end it was the most wonderful experience I have had so far in Mexico and in an all-inclusive hotel!

It was a little confusing at first to figure out from the reviews because there are reviews about H10 Punta Coral, Ocean Coral & Turquesa and H10 Ocean Turquesa, they are all the same hotel.

Best Experiences (and get this they didn't even pay me to do this :-)
- Staff were very friendly
- They greeted us with a bottle of champagne and strawberry dipped in white chocolate since we were celebrating our anniversary
- Food at the Mexican and the Italian restaurants were fantastic
- The room was very spacious with a wonderful view of the pool and the beach
- we paid a total of whopping $802 for 7 nights for all 3 of us (two adults and once child)
- The room had a fully stocked minibar with even a bottle of Tequila and beers, and of course diet coke
- The pools were fantastic
- The coffee shop was amazing!!! They had the best cappuccinos. Other resorts don't have a dedicated coffee shop like this
- Enjoyed the poolside buffet along with the Michael Jordan sports bar
- Location was excellent. It was not in Cancun which was a positive for us but was only 20 minutes from the airport
- The safe deposit box was free
- The timeshare guys are there but they are not very persuasive so much better than other places

What was not the best:
- The beach was a little disappointing since it had a lot of sea weed
- The buffet was nothing special as in how all inclusive buffets are, don't get me wrong it was very good and had innumerable items to choose from
- Only one pool (out of 5) had a bar in there
- Housekeeping was a little slow at times to clean up the rooms. Trick is to call them when you are leaving for a couple of hours and they come in immediately.
- The wait at the Italian and Japanese restaurants can be a little frustrating. I figured out that talking to the guest service was very useful. Although they say no reservations are taken, they do take reservations at the hotel through guest services. Talk to Pedro, he is very helpful.

Overall it was a wonderful experience and we would go back there in a heartbeat. Don't listen to the comments which blow the negative things totally out of proportion.

“Better Than Expected...”

Ocean Coral & Turquesa

Aug 31, 2008
5/5 found this review helpful

We stayed at the H10 Ocean Coral & Turquesa resort in late August. After reading some of the reviews, we weren't sure what to think. But here's how it worked out--

**Check-in: We arrived at the hotel around 1 pm and our room, as expected, was not ready. The front desk, which speaks very limited English, told us to check back in an hour. Our concierge gave us a 10-minute or so introduction to the hotel and when that was done, our room was ready - even earlier than we were told!

**Room: The standard room was much larger than any other all-inclusive we've stayed at before. We had 2 full-sized beds, as well as a sofa with desk, table, and chair in the seating area. The air-conditioning worked very well and the fan was not necessary. I don't understand why so many reviewers have complained that the fans turn off while you're sleeping. The A/C was more than enough to keep you cool - in fact, we were cold if anything. The balcony was also quite large, with amazing views of the beach and pool. One problem was the bathroom - since it doesn't have a door, the amount of privacy is somewhat limited. If traveling with children, this may be a bit of a concern. Additionally, the shower often leaks into the bathroom but it isn't that bad if you walk around the bathroom with flip-flops.

**Pools: There are 4 large pools: one with a pool bar, one where the various activities are held, and two others. We generally stayed at the quiet pool on the Coral side. It had a jacuzzi area and these chairs that had water jets designed to give you a sort of message. Our main complaint about the pools was that the water is often warm. Understandably, the sun is going to heat them up but the water that constantly flows in is not cold either. Additionally, there are few umbrellas in the pool areas and they are usually taken up early in the morning by people who just place their towels on them and don't return until much later, if at all.

**Beach: The sand is amazing, very fine with absolutely no debris. The water, however, is a different story. As many reviewers have explained, there is a considerable amount of seaweed that washes up along the shore. It's not a huge problem though: the workers clean it up many times throughout the day. Also, if you want to avoid the seaweed, go just a few feet farther into the ocean - it doesn't get deep all that quickly anyway and it is much clearer water there.

**Food: The main buffet is pretty good, but definitely gets a bit boring if you're there for more than a week. There are also 3 speciality restaurants. The Mexican restaurant was our favorite: the food was excellent and the service was very quick. At the Japanese restaurant, we were seated at the table-top grill (I forget exactly what it's called) and watching the food be made was great. Unfortunately, the food was not all that good. Lastly, there is the Italian restaurant which had very good food, albeit not 100% authentic, but very slow service.

**Tours: The only excursion we took was the 2-hour snorkeling trip that is offered by the hotel. They send you to two different sites, both with a good number of fish and coral to see. The second site definitely has more to see but anyway, the trip is pretty good. Since it's only 2 hours, it's not completely worth the $45 but definitely think about it.

The last thing I must say is to decline the invitation to their V.I.P. breakfast tour. It is not a tour but just a lousy attempt to sell you a timeshare vacation program that they insist is not a timeshare program at all. They waste your entire day, initially refusing to let you decline the offer, pressuring you by presenting seemingly better and better deals. It is certainly not worth it, no matter what it seems like. Just politely refuse the first time and they won't bother you.

All in all, the hotel still did exceed our expectations. We may consider returning but if we do, we'll know to stay away from their "tour." Otherwise, enjoy! It's incredibly cliche to say but a vacation is what you make of it and depends a lot on your attitude.
