On our way back from Tulum we decided to visit Puerto Morelos, a charming fishermen's village, if you want to live a real Mexican experience I truly recommend to spend a few days in PM.
Since we were heading to Cancun we hadn't made any accommodation arrangements and we wandered until we found an available room (all hotels in PM were fully booked).
Ojo de Agua had a room available for one night and we decided to stay there, the hotel is well maintained, clean, beachfront, service is warm and friendly, overall a good value for money.
We enjoyed the rest of the afternoon walking around PM, had lunch at Pelicanos, very typical and inexpensive seafood place, one of the best fish ceviches I ever had... some "artisinia" shopping to bring some gifts home and then we headed to the beach. The beach is not as nice as Tulum but was totally uncrowded, strange considering the high occupancy they were running.
At night we looked for a casual dinner option, half a block from the town square, we found a little hidden gem, a place that opened that week, Tanino's, great casual food (salads, gourmet sandwiches, crepes) and an extensive and very good winelist available by the glass. I had the steak and portobello sandwich with gorgonzola with a glass of Albariño, and my partner had a greek salad, both very tasty and well presented, service is friendly and prices inexpensive
I travel quite often to Riviera Maya and Cancun but I will definitly organize a week in PM in a very near future.
