We recently visited Excellence Riviera in Puerto Morelos, Mexico. Bottom line up front is that every aspect of this trip from the travel agent (Melissa DeRose – Vacations to Go) to the last moment was exceptional. We had great adventure in the form of Tropical Storm Dolly, relaxation in the amazing weather after the storm, warm hospitality from all the staff / people of this beautiful resort / country and most importantly, we had an opportunity to re-connect and spend very secluded uninterrupted time together.
We arrived on day one, and as all the others who have reviewed this resort have indicated, we received the cool towel and cold glass of champagne. We were quickly dispatched and escorted around the resort and given an informative tour by Alejandro. We were immediately struck by the grandeur of the foyer and the serine beauty of the perfectly manicured grounds. We arrived at the excellence club private office and were promptly checked in and given room 8254. When the bell hop opened the door to our room we were both mesmerized. We had seen many pictures (we were obsessed with trip advisor prior to booking our trip) of the rooms, but I can tell you the pictures do no justice. We could see across our marble floors, across the two Jacuzzi tubs, across the four poster bed covered in red rose petals, across the fresh fruit and chilling bottle of champagne, and across our second story veranda to one of the most beautiful beach vista either of us has ever seen. I was in the military for 23 years and now work international businesses and travel the globe extensively. This is a beautiful spot not to be missed.
My wife and I are both travel work-aholics and literally only see each other about two days a month. We were searching for a vacation that would afford us the opportunity to just relax and be. As I stated before, we were trip advisor junkies and finally decided on the Excellence Riviera after a lot of back and forth. We were very fortunate we did. The great thing about this resort is one can be as plugged in or as unplugged as one desires. Between room service, the private-ness and soft ethereal music of the spa pool (it seemed we were the only ones that used it), the seclusion of the beach, private surf side dinner, and the couple’s spa treatment, one can create a vacation where you feel like you are the only ones on the resort. The resort was 70% capacity when we were there and because of the way it is laid out, its many pools, and our very early rise habits it often seemed like we were quite alone.
We had no problems with ants or “no see-ums”, our room service was on time, our turn down service was prompt and occurred every night, we could always find a floaty and chair, the guest we did meet were predominantly from the UK and quite lovely, the staff was amazing, and the restaurants / food was above average. We used our safe and had no problems with any missing items.
When we go back the only thing I will change will be to book an excellence club third floor room. We had a second floor room and in one instance, it was possible to hear the maids above us cleaning in the afternoon. Third floor will also give us another flight of stairs to climb to stave off the pounds we gained.
Honorable mentions: Melissa our travel agent was awesome and quite patient with a couple of high detail, persnickety clients. Amable and Gabriel – they were the excellence club pool bar tenders and made our trip all the more memorable with humor and professionalism. Alejandro the chef of the Grill House – I requested a Guadalajara whole fish dish that wasn’t on the menu. He asked that I return for lunch the next day. He went to the market, bought the specific fish I requested and specially prepared it as I requested for my wife and me. That my friend is going above and beyond. Thank you.
Finally, I have read many reviews were folks indicated bad this, or terrible that…. At the end of the day it is what you create that you remember. Learn a-little Spanish, treat folks with respect, return the smile you will receive from everyone you pass and I promise you, you will have a great vacation. Cheers and Gods Speed
