Reserved the "Cliff House" in April '07. Due to a scheduling error, a rain check was issued for the retainer deposit, since Pacific Mist Inn would not issue a refund.
Reservations were then made for a weekend getaway weekend (4/11 & 4/12).
The original e-mail for the '07 booking was saved and purposely used for a reference, since there was a retainer deposit involved.
The rental charge was now about $150.00 more (Note: the amount DOES take into consideration that the first booking was a Thursday & Friday and the current booking was Friday & Saturday- about a $50 rate difference).
It was then reduced to the '07 rate after the manager (Jennifer) was requested to scroll down and check the original agreed booking rate (Note: rates disclosed on the website have not changed from '07) and quoted: "We WILL match any other internet rate without any booking fees!" (website offer).
A confirmation call was placed on 4/10 (day prior to arrival) and during casual conversation, I was informed by Nicole that children are not allowed at the Cliff House.
The manager was then contacted in order to resolve the situation, since there is NO disclosure anywhere from Pacific Mist Inn (website or contractual reservation e-mail ) that children are NOT allowed.
We offered to sign a waiver releasing PMI of all liability but the Manager would not compromise other than offering a stay at one of the inferior inland cabins or to bypass PMI entirely, with the suggestion of my renting an ocean side hotel in town.
I was forced to compromise in order not to waste the initial deposit, also intending never to return to PMI.
In fairness, I will not review the inland cabin because it was never my intention to stay anywhere that is not ocean front when visiting the coast.
This review is solely with the intent for travelers to be aware that children are discriminated upon when renting the "Cliff House" and NOT disclosed anywhere on their website or during the booking process (in my particular case). Falsely advertised and deceptive enough to ruin a planned coastal getaway at the very last minute.
Pacific Mist Inn has the right to set their rental protocol but there should not be any hidden rules, making it not fair for the traveler that is not aware of the set conditions. Had it been disclosed, I would have moved on and booked elsewhere, since my personal preference is to be ocean side when pursuing a coastal getaway.
By the way, the reason for the restriction was because of the apparent cliff side location. I would venture to guess that the odds would be greater for an inhibriated relaxed adult to compromise their safety then for any casualties to result when dealing with responsible parents and a disciplined child.
