“PMI- The last minute deceptive coastal getaway!”

Reserved the "Cliff House" in April '07. Due to a scheduling error, a rain check was issued for the retainer deposit, since Pacific Mist Inn would not issue a refund.
Reservations were then made for a weekend getaway weekend (4/11 & 4/12).
The original e-mail for the '07 booking was saved and purposely used for a reference, since there was a retainer deposit involved.
The rental charge was now about $150.00 more (Note: the amount DOES take into consideration that the first booking was a Thursday & Friday and the current booking was Friday & Saturday- about a $50 rate difference).
It was then reduced to the '07 rate after the manager (Jennifer) was requested to scroll down and check the original agreed booking rate (Note: rates disclosed on the website have not changed from '07) and quoted: "We WILL match any other internet rate without any booking fees!" (website offer).
A confirmation call was placed on 4/10 (day prior to arrival) and during casual conversation, I was informed by Nicole that children are not allowed at the Cliff House.
The manager was then contacted in order to resolve the situation, since there is NO disclosure anywhere from Pacific Mist Inn (website or contractual reservation e-mail ) that children are NOT allowed.
We offered to sign a waiver releasing PMI of all liability but the Manager would not compromise other than offering a stay at one of the inferior inland cabins or to bypass PMI entirely, with the suggestion of my renting an ocean side hotel in town.
I was forced to compromise in order not to waste the initial deposit, also intending never to return to PMI.
In fairness, I will not review the inland cabin because it was never my intention to stay anywhere that is not ocean front when visiting the coast.
This review is solely with the intent for travelers to be aware that children are discriminated upon when renting the "Cliff House" and NOT disclosed anywhere on their website or during the booking process (in my particular case). Falsely advertised and deceptive enough to ruin a planned coastal getaway at the very last minute.
Pacific Mist Inn has the right to set their rental protocol but there should not be any hidden rules, making it not fair for the traveler that is not aware of the set conditions. Had it been disclosed, I would have moved on and booked elsewhere, since my personal preference is to be ocean side when pursuing a coastal getaway.
By the way, the reason for the restriction was because of the apparent cliff side location. I would venture to guess that the odds would be greater for an inhibriated relaxed adult to compromise their safety then for any casualties to result when dealing with responsible parents and a disciplined child.

We pride ourselves here at Pacific Mist Inn, in being wonderful hosts and really work hard to make it a special vacation for everyone who stays with us by creating a personal itinerary to our favorite hot spots, restaurants and adventures. We want everyone to have privacy, peace, serenity and a feeling of personal attention when they come here to the Pacific Mist Inn.
Unfortunately, our insurance will not allow children (nor pets) at the oceanfront cliffhouse known as "Desire". The cabin is perfect for a romantic vacation or honeymoon. If this is unclear on our website, we willl certainly correct that. I can imagine your disappointment at not having the endless ocean views that the cliffhouse affords. Those views are rare indeed, even here on the coast due to the large number of cypress, pine and redwood trees that are common on the Mendocino Coast.
We did give you our best cabin at a reduced rate and I am truly sorry I could not have solved your vacation needs better. I tried my best and really wanted it to be a special vacation for you. I hope you found Mendocino a charming destination nonetheless.

We stayed at the Pacific Mist Inn the weekend of February 8-10th. I had mentioned during my reservation that my Husband and I were celebrating our wedding anniversary. When we arrived, there was a bottle of wine and chocolates on the table! The room was fantastic and the management friendly and knowledgeable. We had a fire in the fireplace both nights (the firewood was provided) and watched dvd's we rented form the office. ($5 for 2 movies AND popcorn! We bbq one night and watched the stars. I would recommend this place with flying colors!

We happened onto Pacific Mist Inn, looking for a cabin with a kitchenette and fireplace for a reasonable price, and found the perfect place. Under the new management, the staff is friendly, helpful (told us where to see whales, and we did!), and provides a glass of wine in the lobby every afternoon. The grounds and bungalows were clean and beautifully maintained; new bedspreads, dishes, good pans, flatscreen TV (you can rent DVDs in the lobby), and plenty of pillows. Also there is plenty of firewood and firestarter logs for the wood fireplace which you can enjoy from a sofa. Comfortable bed, immaculate and roomy apparently newly remodeled bathroom. A hot tub on the premises, and best of all (for us) fresh coffee beans and grinders (!) in each room. The staff solicited our feedback as to what more we could ask for: not much! We spent 4 days there: read, watched the rain, walked on the beach, and enjoyed the fine restaurants in nearby Mendocino (a very cool art community). Will recommend this place to all our friends!

If you are looking for a reasonable alternative to staying in the town of Mendocino, California, check out Pacific Mist Inn and Cabins in nearby Little River. A short drive to Mendocino provides shops and restaurants, but you'll enjoy the added bonus of a clean cabin on a quiet meadow when you're ready for a fire, and a glass of wine and chocolates provided by the management. The staff is exceptionally attentive and courteous, the two rooms our family occupied were spotless, and there was a wealth of information about things to do in and around the area in the reading matter provided. We were so cozy we didn't even avail ourselves of the hot tub a short walk from our cabin. Next time, which I hope will be soon.

We just returned from a wonderful stay at the Pacific Mist Bungalows (aka Pacific Mist Inn and Cabins). We were a little nervous after reading prior reviews, but apparently the management has changed since then. Whatever happened, its was so much better than our expectations.

The room we stayed in (Room 2) was one of the Queen bed rooms, and it was very nice. Comfortable bed, nice shower, and a deck. The hot tub outdoors was *amazing*. Its hidden in the trees, and really cute and romantic.

The managers were really helpful with everything we wanted as well. They recommended a great vegetarian restaurant (Raven's... don't miss it), as well as hikes and beaches to visit. Really friendly, welcoming folks.

Anyway, don't go here if you need a high class spa getaway, but if you want an inexpensive cabin that feels really warm and homey, then this is the place to stay. I highly recommend it.
